When he was taken out of the Savoy Hotel suite he lived in by an ambulance days before he died, he raised himself off the stretcher and shouted to the Savoy guests and diners...."Don't eat the food ". He played it right to the very end. A wonderful talented funny character.

Michael Parkinson was fantastic at interviewing 'wild' men. He understood and respected them, and they him. His upbringing in the mining community and time in the Army played a major part in this. He interviewed some of the most intimidating stars, stood his ground, showed respect and they loved him. Watch other interviewers with the same guests and compare the respect and depth of interviews, fantastic and a great miss. Xx

I love the way he speaks in the third person. He refers to himself as 'Harris' when he tells stories and it somehow seems to have the effect of making himself the butt of the joke. It's brilliant because usually the notion of speaking in third person is seen as being pretentious, but he manages to do it in a humbling way.

*I just wanted to take out the time to thank you for uploading all these great/classic Parkinson shows Matthew. I don't know (and don't care!) if it's a sign of me, finally morphing into a GOW (Grumpy Old Woman), but my hubby and I would much rather settle down for an entire evening, to watch these sort of clips, than the cr@p on most TV channels these days. I should perhaps add that we watch them on what my hubby considers to be a **_"stupidly large"_** UHD screen in our home cinema - as opposed to trying to huddle round the screen of a Samsung mobile phone! It's even better than going to the pictures, or cinema, or the movies as younger people (quite rightly) call it. Anyway I'd better go and get the popcorn and a couple of Kia-Ora's as he'll be home soon! But seriously, thanks again for taking the time and effort for everyone's entertainment. Cheers x.*

It's completely impossible to have a great actor without Any eccentricities or crazy dramatic behaviour, whether he was under the influence or not he had more personality and chareceter in his ear lobe than most 'celebrities' today, to Hell with they're mediocare boring shit, the talents are lost in this generation and it's not going to get better sadly, I'm so pleased that Sir Anthony Hopkins is still acting though and ofcourse Hugh Laurie. Rip Richard, full of guts and passion, along with Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole, Sir Laurence Oliver, Oliver Reed and Marlon Brando.

What an entertaining interview, this actor, may not be the top of the tree, for many folks, But to me. He has the lot, a fine actor, a fine gust for a talk show, but most of all , an Icon of the silver screen, not bad for a lad with limited educational ability.

Whether he was on drugs or not, who gives a shit? The man was a legend, both onscreen and off and, sadly, we'll never get anyone like him again. Same with O'Toole, Burton, and Reed. Today's Hollywood stars are all too worried about their image, Instagram followers, and the like, and as a result, are boring and sterile.
