For the 10 years Gunsmoke was on the radio (April 1952 until June 1961), William Conrad played (and created) the part of Matt Dillon, having also named Chester Wesley Proudfoot and Doc Adams. Many of the shows written by John Meston for radio (and later other writers) were direct transfers to the later television show. Gunsmoke was the last dramatic radio show to air from Hollywood.

A mention of William Conrad and Virginia Christine would have been appreciated, as as both were probably the most overlooked Actors in Hollywood history.

Yeah, "The Killers" was also William Conrad's film debut. He was already a known figure in entertainment, establishing himself as Matt Dillon in the radio drama "Gunsmoke", a role which would later go to James Arness on both radio and TV.

@@bigsky1970 William Conrad's sheer number of radio appearances from ESCAPE to GUNSMOKE and many others is astounding, probably over 10,000 radio shows not to forget his later television work from Cannon to Nero Wolfe and Jake and the Fatman.

Such a great beginning for Lancaster & it seemed like he was how we knew him right out the gate ,just watched the remake 1964 as well & I love the remake but the original has a quality that can’t be touched. Thanks for your intro.
