"All right, Bernie...We're alone now." The scary part is that Ryan is so calm and matter-of-fact about what's going to happen. But the "Why do you make me do it?!" line is beautiful--it encompasses all the hardness and misery that goes with being a cop.

The guy he's about to whip up on does it really know what he's about to have unleashed upon him until that last second when he really looks at the guy's face and he sees something that is really bad.

This movie is actually on RIGHT NOW on TCM. And this scene just showed and I played it 3 times. Lol, Robert Ryan was a great actor.

I just saw this film this evening. Wow, your dad sure played some complex characters. I loved watching his emotions play out on his face. Amazing. Absolutely not! .... but I remember him using that voice a few times when I was in high school and he was really pissed off at me (for things like getting home at midnight instead of 11pm) ... talk about scary!
