I don’t think the job is as sweet as it used to be, the personnel isn’t the same and the defense is always scapegoated even when the offense underperforms. Also, I think the wide 9 is old news now. While the schedule is favorable it would still be like taking a step backwards while not guaranteeing the same success

Totally agree. Was Saleh a great defensive coordinator, or was he a good coordinator with a loaded defense in San Francisco? The Jets had a fair amount of talent on that side of the ball and their unit was often a mess under Saleh (admitedly, as head coach he had a lot more concerns in New York than just coordinating the defense). If he returns to San Francisco it will be to lesser personnel than he had the first go-round.

Belichick talked about HC's who are also play callers today on McAfee, He said "That model can definitely work, but you need somebody really strong on the other side of the ball where you don't really have to worry about what there doing, or what they are calling, so the HC can really focus on what he is doing.".......Robert Saleh has already been able to do this for Kyle, makes way too much sense idk why anyone would say otherwise.

Problem with hiring Robert Saleh as DC is that there's a good chance he'd get hired as a head coach after one year. It would be great to find a more permanent solution, like Dennis Allen for example, or Eberflus.

The Bengals are the logical team for Saleh because a Superbowl is his goal and with that QB and strong offense the Bengals will get it. They just need a decent defense. "First round picks are not always first round grades." Well said & great reminder. That said, this is an important offseason. The Niners have to hit on their draft picks, hire a legit defensive coordinator, make special teams an area of focus AND IMPROVE their offensive line through free agency and the draft. This is gonna be a busy offseason!

Robert Saleh knows that the 49ers D.C job is an ideal job for him because Kyle will just hand the keys to him on defense and will consistently spend big money on defensive free agents and use top draft picks on making sure that his defense is stacked. He also knows that if he doesn't take the job, the 49ers could turn to Gus Bradley or Robert Ulrich or Jerod Mayo. They have options.
