Have heard a lot of cellist performances / recordings of this curious set of pieces and somehow this one is near the top -- it is more nimble than pesante in first movement, clear articulation and organised left hand, wonderful D string resonance throughout third movement, finale yet more dance-like. It is so easy to just scrub at this piece and make the outer movements more stern than mercurial but this was neatly crafted interpretation and playing that captured the whole kaleidoscope, bravo!
