Robert Spencer is Outraged Over Muslims Appearing in a Christmas Commercial

Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch is outraged over a supermarket ad featuring Hijabi women in it. He states that Tesco's agenda is to impose that "Muslims are here to stay" and he insists that we cannot accept that. I counter his claims by showing that he is overblowing the issue and that acting bigoted towards Muslims is not the solution.

Robert Spencer is an intelligent man that makes a lot of valid points. From what I know of Robert from what I have heard from him in the past, He is not against Muslims but the ideology of Islam which they hold and the dangers within the ideology of Islam that can cause peaceful muslims to go bad. Whether you agree or disagree that he went overboard in his reaction to this ad, he is in no way deserving to be called or tempted to be called a Nazi as you said, Sameer.

I think that Sameer doesn't understand how the situation is in Europe, i do agree that it seems ridiculous to criticize a turkey add just because it portrays muslim women, to many lefties it seems like discrimination. but to many Europeans it seems like social programming, we haven't had an honest conversation about islam, therefore the add feels forced. Maybe the add is right in its spirit, that just wants to bring people together and not exclude anyone, but the very reasons they are in Europe is controversial, it is just a social change that people feel weird about and don't see as good. Which they have the right to.

Do your muslim family members invite you to celebrate Eid with them? If so, they can hardly complain if you invite them to your Christmas bash. Anyway, an invitation politely declined is not necessarily a snub. Maybe, split the difference and get together for New Year’s Eve or Hallowe’en. It’s sometimes a bit asymmetrical between friends of different faiths/philosophies. @Yasu Allah 1- many times within the quran, mohammed is called a prophet and a messenger. Whether you believe it or not is of course up to you, but the quran in itself has confirmed that he, according to the quran is. If u want, I can quote them verses. 2- isiah 42 clearly talks about prophet mohammed. Because it specifically says "till he establishes justice on earth". Jesus was crucified according to you, and raised according to us, but regardless the justice came after his "death." "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations." "Chosen one", is literally one of the names of prophet mohammed. 3- judaisim and christiany were divine religions. They were forms of Islam. Because Islam is simply "submission to God according to his will to attain peace". Thats what it actually means. And so as the laws of God changed over time for different people and nations, so did the way to submit to him.
@theenragedone3963
@theenragedone3963 3 жыл бұрын
@ChristBanner That was exactly my point bro. Look at the guys question that I was yrying to answer. It doesnt even make sense. My point WAS that you cant prove mohammeds (saw) prophethood through the quran because you dont believe in it. Thats my point. About the torah mentioning mohammed. "And the Lord said unto me. They have well spoken that which they have spoken, I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him." The verse says "among their brethern", meaning not from the children of Israel, but their brothers. So not the sons of jacob, but his brother. Ishmael, which were the arabs. Lastly, did abraham worship jesus and the holy spirit?
@theenragedone3963
@theenragedone3963 3 жыл бұрын
@ChristBanner We differ even when it comes to the relationships between moses, jacob ,abraham and ishmael. So there would be no point arguing about such thing because I believe one thing and you another, and we know we wont change each others opinion. But instead of going so deep and arguing even about prophet mohammed, which me and you are both either biased for, or against. Because no matter what I put forward from the bible, you will push it aside by nterpreting it differently. And since there is no confirmed interpretation of the entire bible, we dont know who is right. Lets just keep it simple and at least establish our main beliefs. So do you believe in a trinity of the father the son and the holy spirit? If so, can you confirm thay prophet Abraham did too?
@theenragedone3963
@theenragedone3963 3 жыл бұрын
@ChristBanner Lol. Thats not it at all. If you want me to put forth many examples trust me, I can. First bring a full interpretation of the bible. You cant , because you cant even agree on it. You dont even have the same bible, there are God knows how many versions. 😂How do you claim that the bible is uncorrupt, when there are countless versions, contradicting one another. And then come some priests that chuck our whatever verses they want as fabrications. 😂 Are you saying God failed to reveal correctly and it needed such adjusements. So tell me now, do you believe in a trinity. If so, why? If abraham did not. Or do you still have no answer?

If my memory serves correctly, an Egyptian football player named Mohammed Saleh posted a picture of him and his family taking a picture in front of a Christmas tree. The outrage that resulted after the picture was posted came from the Muslim community not the christian community because its muslims who are under the misconception that Christmas is a pagan holiday and, therefore, haram. Now I believe Robert Spencer has misunderstood the situation given that the islamic reformer Maajid Nawaz spoke up about it. I can imagine that a few people would get disgruntled by the inclusivity of the commercial but I believe the fact that the outrage was directed towards muslims being in the commercial rather than the sikhs, gives some credibility that the outrage came from the muslim community rather than the native european populace. This is all speculation, though.

Anyone who calls Christmas "pagan" just proves he has no knowledge. The person who maintains Christmas’s “pagan roots” has to ask himself the following questions: 1. After centuries of the Church’s persecution for not observing pagan holidays, where is the proof of influence? 2. Who influenced whom? Did Christianity influence pagans to begin to adopt a more public and concrete celebration, or did they “Christianize” a pagan event? We can observe historically that the two celebrations were present at the time, but neither scenario is a problem for the Christian, because the Church has the ability to Christianize people and celebrations alike. Light overcame darkness at the celebration of Sol Invictus, and, in Christ, darkness was defeated by the real luminousness of Christ. Paganism had a hint, but Christianity had the fulfillment. Paul said to the Greeks at the Areopagus: “For as I passed along, and observed the object of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, ‘to an unknown god.’ What therefore your worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you . . . that [every nation of men] should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after him and find him” (Acts 17:23, 27). A desire for the “unknown God” is written on the hearts of all men. The Catechism of the Catholic Church puts it this way: The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for. (CCC 27). There is nothing wrong with the Church baptizing certain practices of other religions. The objector is claiming the Church derived its beliefs from these celebrations when it only assimilated such seasonal celebrations and symbols. St. Patrick did the same with the clover to illuminate and demonstrate the reality of the Trinity, as did St. Paul in explaining the “unknown god” at the Areopagus. Paul did not derive the idea of God from the Greeks that day, and Patrick did not derive the Trinity from a leaf. We don’t believe that Christians hold the patent on truth. Instead, we believe that God has allowed hints of himself in other religions. In other words, just because a specific religion does not contain the whole truth does not mean it contains no truth . If you witness to a pagan who believes a wreath will save him, maybe you can show him how Jesus is the fulfillment of that promise of everlasting life. Then, like the cross that hangs from our necks, we can display a wreath to remind us what is true. In this way, Christianity has the distinct ability to assimilate the “hints” of other religions. I find the following passage from Vatican II’s especially enlightening: The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions. She regards with sincere reverence those ways of conduct and of life, those precepts and teachings which, though differing in many aspects from the ones she holds and sets forth, nonetheless often reflect a ray of that truth which enlightens all men. Indeed, she proclaims, and ever must proclaim Christ “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), in whom men may find the fullness of religious life, in whom God has reconciled all things to himself (Nostra Aetate 4).

I think you misunderstood some of the things Robert Spencer said as being his own words, when in fact he indicated he was just quoting things said by others, including Majid Nawaz. I also think you misunderstood Spencer with his reference to Nawaz as a "reformer". In fact, if you listen carefully to what Spencer said, he actually referred to Majid as a "so-called" reformer - meaning that he really did not believe that Nawaz was a "reformer" at all. Actually, if I were Tesco's - & knowing that Muslims do not believe in or celebrate Christmas, I would not have asked any known Muslims, to appear in any sort of Christmas-themed ad - even if it was only for Christmas turkey. I would simply not do it, for fear of causing offence to the Muslims. And given there are "Muslims" appearing in the ad - I do wonder whether the turkeys being shown in the ad were "halal" - as that is something that might cause further offence to Muslims. On the other hand, from the Christian point of view - it would probably appear hypocritical for "Muslims" to appear in a Christmas-themed ad, given that they don't believe in Christmas anyway. I remember once, back in the 1980's when I was working in a financial institution - I made the mistake of asking a client (as part of my job) for their "Christian name". Back in those days, the term "Christian name" was used as a sort of generic term to simply to refer to a person's first name (as opposed to their surname, or family name). But when I asked the client for their Christian name, they promptly responded that they were Muslim & had a "Muslim name" (I guess they did not understand that the term "Christian name" really just meant their first name). Ever since that incident, I've been careful about causing offence to Muslims. So in this instance, if I were Tesco's & knowing that Muslims don't believe in or celebrate Christmas, I simply would not have asked any Muslims to appear in a Christmas-themed ad - for fear that it might offend them. In any case though, we don't know for certain whether the hijab-wearing women who appeared in the ad were actually real Muslims - or whether they were just non-Muslim actors/actresses playing the part of Muslim women by donning hijabs for the ad. If Tesco's had been worried about causing offence to Muslims by asking them to appear in a Christmas-themed ad - they may have chosen to go down that path (of having non-Muslims portray Muslim women in the ad). But then again, if Tesco's had been aware that Muslims don't believe in Christmas - why would they have wanted to portray any Muslims in a Christmas-themed ad in the first place, & risk offending them? I do find it all a bit hard to understand - especially since I'm aware that Muslims might often "cop some flack" from within their own religious community, for celebrating Christmas, because they're not supposed to believe in it, or celebrate it. So I think it's at best a very "dubious" ad on the part of Tesco's, that in the end will probably offend both Muslims & Christians, & thus possibly even cause a drop in their sales at Christmas time - instead of the increase in sales they were hoping the ad might generate. I would suggest that they probably won't make the same mistake next Christmas, & will be more "sensitive" to omit the Muslims, so as not to cause offence to either Muslims or Christians. It just goes to show that someone in their "marketing" department obviously was not thinking straight, & thought that "it all seemed like a good idea at the time" - without researching the matter properly first. Unfortunately these sorts of mistakes are all too common these days.

@@AbdullahSameerVideos hi Abdullah, thank you for taking your time to reply to me. I think this time you were too eager to accuse Mr Spencer’s. I’m not objecting to the two ladies participating in the ad per se. It’s the cynicism of these big companies that are imposing their views on the population at large of any faith but of course especially the Christians because we are in the West. I’m agnostic because I don’t know if God exists or not but I’m culturally Christian. I love Christmas and the message of hope that transmits and everybody that participates in it is welcome but I will feel more comfortable when all faiths will reciprocate their inclusion. By the way, my Muslim friends they wish me every year Happy holidays, I don’t know if it is because they know I’m not very religious or because they can’t bring themselves to say “Christmas”! Mr Spencer may have some biased feelings towards Muslims being of Armenian origins, I find it understandable but I never heard him saying something against moderate Muslims.
