Riots have blazed through Paris, Marseille and Lyon, after police fatally shot 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk.
The violence comes as France reaches a tipping point after an influx of migrants over recent years.

I lived in France for a few years with my ex-girlfriend's family who was Algerian. Thankfully they were one of the (few?) that became well integrated into French culture and society when they immigrated to France, but I could definitely tell that there was a stigma (rightfully so) of anyone that looked poor and Muslim. My ex always told me to stay away from the mothers and kids asking for money or food in the subways and metros because they'd pickpocket you before you know it. Some families, like the one I was staying with, have made an effort to appreciate the French system and way of life, but it must be very easy to cultivate feelings of hatred living in a country that has values you haven't made an effort to align to. I hope France figures out how to smooth over some of these issues soon. I can't say I enjoyed all of my stay there, but it's a beautiful country with a lot of potential that's being ruined by these alien communities.

As a German I can confirm it is all true. In Germany it is not as bad as in France yet, but we are on the same way. Since the refugee crises in 2015, there came about 1 million Syrians to Germany and they are still coming. After they are being accepted as refugees, they bring the whole family. There have been many violent attacks commited by syrians since. Many people in Germany have been sympathetic with the refugees at first because of the war in Syria, but now the have to realize, that muslim immigrants mostly refuse to respect western values and laws. Many are here just for the social benefits. Of course this is not tru for all immigrants, but unfurtunatly for many of them. The government does not take measures against this problem and as a result right wing parties gain ground. It is quite a scary situation. No one knows where this will end.

As a French, I find your analysis rather complete and accurate. Yes, there is a problem with uncontrolled immigration, with people who end up violent once they arrive on the French soil. Also, France fails to extradite its illegal immigrants. It is not the only issue, though, because many troublemakers are French from foreign origin, mainly North Africa. They don't feel like French and despise the country that has poured money in social welfare and in infrastructures for years in the suburbs where they live. It's not just all the previous governments that have failed to integrate these people: they don't want to integrate themselves and they hate the very hand that had been feeding them. It is worth noting that the countries from which they originate don't have the same troubles with their youngsters: it's because they are tough and don't hesitate to severely punish crimes to have a more peaceful society. Don't be fooled by the events of the teen who has tragically lost his life : he was well known by the Police. He was not an angel and it's easy now to paint him as a victim (he could have killed people trying to escape the Police). There are more and more thugs on the streets that are driving stolen vehicles (many without licence), try to flee the Police recklessly, are involved in drug trafficking and other crimes. These (often young) people don't respect any form of authority and are extremely violent. The Police are scared, the citizens are scared and the government is a total coward (like their predecessors). It's appalling. Inevitably, all this will lead to more resentment toward these communities from foreign origins, and sadly even towards the good people among them. This will also only lead to more extremism, more misunderstandings and more violence. The government thinks they can buy peace by finding excuses to these criminals who once in a while get shot, but they alienate themselves all the rest of the population. Very possibly, we will have a strong right wing government next time. Or we will make a Revolution. Once in a while, we snap. I am very sad seeing my beautiful country being burnt by brainless, violent thugs and my government being so weak and unfit to prevent or even handle the situation. The 17 year old boy, a"delivery driver" did not have a driving licence, was driving a stolen car, had a long criminal record but no convictions. He was driving in a bad manner almost hitting people, refusing to stop for the police, ran from the police and then again ran at gun point. Nothing to do with racism but rather bad behavior. Sad that he had to die for his lack of respect for the police, very sad. What did he deliver? Drugs?

This issue is big in all of Europe. I live in Sweden and we have had a huge increase in shootings surrounding gang crimes. It all started in 2019 when we let in a big wave of immigrants. Even though it has been a couple of years since, I still can't get used to them being everywhere I go. I don't think every immigrant is bad, but a lot of the ones I've seen in school are just loud, disrespectful and ungreatful. I honestly think that our cultures are just way too different. People from all backgrounds just can't live in a harmony like the goverment is trying to tell us. We have different countries for a reason, because people are different and everyone can't get along. It's that simple. I hope the French will see a brighter day soon.
