I collect teacups, which I guess is interesting because it’s closer to Stanley cups than most other collectable items. I collect different kinds of tea cups because I like the different designs and shapes, similar to how people collect different colors of Stanley cups. But I would say tea cups are more like a work of art. They have beautiful, intricate, vintage designs on them. None of mine are hand painted, but the ones that are would definitely be considered works of art. I suppose the difference is that Stanley cups are just a mass-produced tumbler. Yes, they have different colors, but can they be equated to a piece of artwork? I really don’t think so. Would I meet someone to take pictures with their rare tea cup? No, probably not. But I have gone to a tea room and taken pictures while enjoying little snacks that make me feel posh. Going to a tea room makes me FEEL classy, but I also get the full experience of having tea and lunch.

People brought their infant children (in 20 degree weather ) to stand outside so they could use them to circumvent the one Stanley per person rule. I heard a few people saying they’re going to resell them while walking to their cars. They had 60 stocked up and they were gone in minutes. Chaos. And over what? A freaking cup!

I remember back in the day when the ONLY status symbol a Stanley Cup was, was that you busted your ass (in sometimes dangerous conditions)to make money to support your family. My Dad never felt, thought or acted above anyone because he had a Stanley cup. The only super cool thing about my Dads Stanley was that our dog had one too, so when my Dad got home from work he always had half a cup of hot coffee left and an Oatmeal Crème pie leftover in his lunchbox for our dog.. and our dog waited all damn day to hear his Dad pull up in his truck to give our dog his special treat. I guess I just don’t see the craziness over this cup. For me, it’s just a memory I have left of my Dad.
