I was completely blown away by the end of this. I’ve never listened to a better lecture about dog aggression. The way you have articulated this is so precise. This has already helped me immensely, to better explain certain elements of this to my clients. Your vulnerability is also extremely touching.

Good info. I do Board and Train. I specialize in E collar. I only take 2 at a time. Dog lives with me. I take them out to train in public parks and stores to get real life training with real life distractions. I turn away a lot of aggressive dogs because the owners think you can "fix" aggression. And rarely do I get an owner that can manage it.

Have a rescue dog that I later learned was feral. She has super strong drive. When walking I use a prong collar because whenever she passes another dog her hackles rise & she becomes aggressive. When I try to control her she turns on me. Control means using leave it command, shorten leash, avoiding other dogs. It's usually with small dogs. My dog is a 65lb female lab, shepherd, pit, rottweiler.

I love the idea of neutrality. It's very overlooked with dog owners. New clients are confused and not very happy when I implement the rule of no leash greetings to essentially detox their dog from the habit of greeting and meeting everyone, especially on leash. Its much easier said then done I find. What's your main recipe for obtaining that neutrality? Sad I missed the live! I was on a packwalk, totally forgot it was at the same time! Always love your lives! Any topic you make engaging and fantastic. I love how you don't add any fluff. Honest and to the point 😉

?I've had my German shepherd since he was a puppy 8 weeks old . Had a quite a few trainers that I realized were not really great trainers until I learned from you by watching your free videos thank you very much!! No I don't think this is an aggressive issue but because I heard you mentioned bikes skateboards . Now my German Shepherd is 4 you just turned 4 he has what I come to realize by knowing him I think it's a fear issue he doesn't like skateboards because he doesn't understand what they are he doesn't mind bike so much but if somebody is coming up behind us on the sidewalk where we're walking and I don't hear them that's where he has a problem. It happened this morning again and I don't understand why any jogger or bicycler would come up behind anybody walking a dog let alone get German shepherd but hey it happens LOL. Well it did happen again this morning which is probably the fifth time this has happened to me. It was with different people Of course, But I don't understand because I wouldn't do it , Not knowing how any dog react I just wouldn't.I would walk around them. He flips out he doesn't bite but Stops turns around and starts banging his front feet on the ground if it's a bike Hill muzzle punch it the tire.he does lunge and bump the front tire and show them to get away is that an issue of a fear? Is he getting startled? I think it's protective Behavior Of course he's not a vicious dog by Any means ,if anything I wish he was a little more confident! protectiveness or Fear ? I'm pretty sure hes protecting me but I can't break him from it and sometimes I have no Idea they're coming up behind me and that's what scares me!😮 You have no control about what other people do! What would you suggest ?im sorry i know your busy .if you have time to answer.You're my favorite trainer. He has never bitten but he has bumped the bike tire It's muzzle punch kind of a warning to backoff. It just happened on our walk again this morning. It was A jogger, jogged right behind us And I didn't hear her so I couldn't move but he started to turn around stood in front of me tall and stomped his front feet and barked he doesnt lunge but Quickly turned around and started stomping his front feet so she'd stop running of course,stood and started stomping his feet up and down barking and in a way like toward her to back off. Well at least that's how I took it. I apologized her ! I said I feel like he just doesn't like people walking up Or running up behind us and I apologized. 😢 she said nothing I don't blame her. I just wondered if there's something that I could do. I quickly redirected him and made him sit And he did! It scares me though because I want him to be protective of me but I don't want him to Suddenly escalate to knock someone over which he's never done but lately I don't understand this behavior but this is only happened this summer to me. I really don't think Honestly because I know him that he would bite but you never know! I do know he's a loving German Shepherd That loves people ,loves other dogs, he's playful , He's very friendly. But he doesn't like people Sneaking up behind us It makes me Think it'sHim feeling like he hasTo protect me . I can't allow him to do that what if he the biker doesn't stop and he muzzles the tire and knock someone over I kick his a** and I'm a little woman but I will not Have him be Aggressive and until this summer it has It's not happened so what has changed? Is it because we've never had anybody do this to us until now it's very alarming to me?

Comment to the cat pray drive question. I have tried to use the same approach as I have used successfully towards other dogs. 1. Correct directly. Stop! Come here ! walk a few step when the dog is beside you , sit, down (basic obedience) then up to go and free. Turn back towards the cat if its still nearby. Repeat. IMPORTANT You must have split personalities. No is a "bad no". Yes is superfun Yes :). Do not run away from the cat, squirrel , rabbit or dog. Win the situation. Go back a few step, sit, down , up free , Repeat! Good luck!

I have a Cane Corso labrador mix and a female. she is eleven months now. she can sit, stay, heel, stay at a distance of 200 meters. but i have 1 problem when a dog comes by and i say stay. then she flies off. I can call her back in one go. when I walk in the city she doesn't fly at dogs only on a sidewalk or park. What could this be ? At 3 months of age I did allow more on the sidewalk such as meeting other dogs, and also in the park. but I have been 5 months straight into what I want from her, but I still can't get it out, but it's getting less. she is super with every dog from small to large so no aggression. sorry for my English greetz and i love ur video's

??? Oeeeh that's a tough one but you're correct. I am at this moment training an aggresive dog. She is making some nice progression. But it's only when I am the one who is holding the leash. Once I hand over the leash back to the owners, then the dog goes back to the way she is. But the owners are learning to correct the dog the way I do. However, I knew their correction would never be the same as mine. What would you suggest? To prevent bite incidents, the owner is fine to put on the muzzle whenever they go outside. As a trainer, would you still suggest to euthanize the dog? I told the owners that I am not trying to make the dog play with other dogs or be nice to other people. But I am training the dog to learn NOT to attack other dogs and humans. That aggression is not tolerable. To bad I missed your live Q&A. I hope you still have a small time to answer my question. Greetings from the Netherlands 🐾

The warning signal shit is crazy. I got a doberman who went to a trainer that allowed growling as a signal. Inevitably, the dobe graduated to biting and otherwise agress in stressful situations. The trainer resulted to letting himself get bit so he could light the dog up. Man charged $ to create a broken, nervous and agressive dog who thinks strangers get him shocked. Clients also told me during 0 sessions over 6 months or so did he try and build a relationship with the dog. 6 months with a trainer and he wouldnt take cookies from me for the first sessions. 🤨

@gardenrabbit3565
@gardenrabbit3565 Жыл бұрын
It could be fear, but almost guaranteed it involves some sort of leaking biological drive. I own an insanely intense heeler. The breed requires a lot of mentally engagement to stay sane. You’ve also got to apply some sort of physical penalty for the behavior.

Reactive doesn't mean aggressive. One of my dogs barks and lunges, but has never tried to bite any person or dog. He's a former street dog from Romania, and just learnt that noise keeps people away from him. He's a lot less reactive after 2 years with me, but will sometimes still bark and lunge when on lead, or just bark when off lead. He is in no way dangerous, and leads a totally normal life

Structure??? Is that just teaching commands and tricks? Is that structured routine with their time in every day? Is that class work?
@TeenyTheOne
@TeenyTheOne Жыл бұрын
Structure is like not letting the dog beg while you're eating and sending them to their bed, then only allowing them off the bed when you tell them they can come off. Another example is when you have a guest in your home sending the dog to its crate when they are there. Rules, boundaries and structure is vital to a happy, healthy relationship with your dog.

Imagine adopting an young orphan who is used to living on the streets and fending for his own. He doesn't need to steal, fight and manipulate people anymore but that is all he ever learned to do. Once he comes under your roof he has to learn that you are responsible for protecting, feeding and caring for him. Now, some ways I used with a highly insecure, streetwise dog: 1) Keep him a little hungry and hand feed him. Sometimes he would have to perform some act of obedience to earn every single piece of kibble. Once you begin leaving food out don't let him rush in. Have him sit across the room until you are ready and then release him to eat. Also place high value treats right in front of him but don't let him eat it until you say so. 2) Take the 'leader role' from him. You go in the door and out the door ahead of him. He follows you on walks. He does 'obedience on demand' during walks (carry yummy treats for this). 3) No advocacy. If something unusual happens he doesn't investigate or take care of it- you do! He is not your guardian- you are his. 3) This one I thought of myself: Get a Kong type toy and lodge a treat in there so tightly that your dog can't get it. When your dog gives up pick up the toy and dislodge the treat a little bit. Repeat. Your dog will learn that you can solve problems that he cannot and will begin to trust you. Teach him to bring it to you when he can't figure it out. 4) Do not let him onto your bed or furniture. 5) Work on shortening the distance between him and the stimuli that cause him to react. I found high value treats particularly useful for this at first. 5) Your dog doesn't need 'love' from you- he needs respect FOR YOU. This is a hard one for pet owners to chew. Trainers are successful many times because they have no emotional attachment to the dog and just do what is needed. Pet owners wring their hands and worry about their dog's 'feelings' and mental processes. 5) I would highly recommend Ecollar training. Good luck!

My bad for not expressing what I meant clearly enough. What I meant was that be it genetic or otherwise many owners do not have the skillset to handle one of these dogs. Even the best trainer can't help if the owner lacks the personality traits needed in these situations. And as hard as is it is for trainer to be brutally honest with the owner not saying anything can anand does lead to tragic outcomes.

🦴🦴Robert,🦮🦮 I've done so much research on the cute PIT BULLS and I've owned 3 males, so I'm going to dispute the theories and yr opinions ...thanks to the MEDIA frightening me into thinking my huge male Red nosed is a ticking time bomb ...I only ever walked him at night, with a muzzle ...but he got out on a 3 hr spree to the shops, dog park and was captured at the primary school being adored by all the kids...they all wanted to keep him!!😂 I then realised the RSPCA here in Aust was correct...he was a gentle giant without any hint of dog aggression as he now plays with all dogs, people, of all sizes, but just like my other previous SPOILT male pits, he is everyone's little angle...so to hell with discrimination coz he's now permitted to visit in hospitals😂..never had any professional training...he's been attacked by do many dogs but never ever did he retailate, never did he mind giving horsey rides and loves being dressed up and being like his humans....here in Australia we don't have the pit bull fighting background and we call them red nosed amstaffs. Now I went online and a reputable dog TRAINER just like YOU in USA, was caught with CRUELTY, STARVING, beating, causing serious injury and death to all these poor innocent dogs, mainly poor pit bulls. Therefore I conclude along with millions of other pit mommy's that nurture wins over nature...none of my angle pit bulls were ever aggressive to anyone or any dog...I hate how people best and starve pit bulls to train them out of killing...😢
