Well I just learnt something new ,which I love. I never thought of using a tactile release from a stay. I will pop that in now though. Thank you Robert. Just shows that even after 46 years of training dogs we still continue to learn. Thank you very much.May I just say that both Goofy and Maya are beautiful examples of their breeds .

This method (binary/built in stays) works amazingly well with my smart but stubborn and challenging to train 1 year old Great Pyrenees. She understands it well and I can tell it makes sense for her and makes her want to listen.

Hey Robert! I just rescued a 1 yo german shepherd and she's really playful and basically determined that she's going to do whatever she wants. I've never trained a dog before and wanted to try to accomplish doing so myself. I've watched alot of different videos and I've taken notes. I seem to be drawn more to your videos because you explain so well. However, Goofy is already well trained and therefore is always well behaved. I'd love to see you do training videos with dogs with no training so that we can actually see the process of you correcting them and the change from being corrected. This would help alot for those of us who have dogs with no training at all. Also, would help to see how you adjust your training when dealing with dogs with different personalities. Again, love your videos and thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

I will definitely start using this method. Never really thought about it but it certainly makes since. Thanks for all of your videos. 3 days ago I got a 9 month old German Shepherd and have started training with her using your videos. She already will sit, come and am working on her staying and releasing toy.

Hi Robert, I ‘m very impressed! You are so professional; I love your body language cooperating with dogs👏🏻 Could you please explain to us how to stop a dog from attacking bicycles. I have a year old German Shepherds and I don’t know how to stop her from doing it. Thank you and warm regards Anita

Wait until I call you; stay until I come back to you. Increases the chances of survival if dog on other side of road not anticipating a recall.

So many people make the mistake of not giving the release and letting the dog release themselves...

Hi Mister Cabral. I really like this channel.I don't know about the US, but in Belgium, Europe we would train a Malinois to stay at a distance, then come at command, and then go down (an interruption of the call) on food (meat, sausages). The dog would have to go down, and not to be interested in the food (normally he/she would just keep staring me in the face for extra commands). Do you have experience and great tips to do such things?

My dog knows sit , and down but I can only get her to stay for a little bit . I can make her sit and toss a ball around and she won’t go get it till o say ok but not for a long period of time . I’d love to be able to tell her down or sit and she stay while I’m doing something else until I say ok. What do I do here ? Just keep practicing sit and down ?

I love your videos. I have rescued Springers for a while and never had a structured plan. I do have a question. What is the best order of training when bringing a dog home, after crate and building a relationship, do you recommend? e.g is "sit" first?

My dog will wait knows wait (stay) very well, i can walk 150/100 metres, and then shout come, and she will come, this is part of training her recall and I'm about 95% successful at 6 months old, every week she gets a bit better. Can i teach the release and this at the same time? By the way i always have her sit when entering the park and release her by tapping her shoulder and saying go, this is new training though so still in early learning stages.

I don't recommend teaching the recall as part of the sit and stay. It will lead to issues later. I only call / recall the dog from movement, and always return to my dog to release them when asking them to stay!

Your method makes sense but in a real life situation a dog may need to retreat which you probably have covered with "off". But if not a situation in which you cannot get to the dog safely (like a attack on a perpetrator or a burning building) but you do want your dog to come to you. I'm just saying...it help if the dog is smart and trainer has taught his dog to problem solve for real life scenarios that aren't Always forseeable.

I agree and was thinking the same as I was watching the video. What if you're in a situation where you can't get to the dog in order to release him/her? Then what?🤔

Hello, greetings from brazil. I am doing a little research in the different views of the stay command for use with my dog. As of now i am only using the word "stay" like a "placeless" place command, when the dog can sit, lie down and relax but must not walk away from where he is. The down and sit are implied stays. What do you think ?

Yes!

@@RobertCabralDogs Thank you sir! You're a big influence on the job i am doing with the shelter dogs i work with! I am a veterinarian and new to dog training but already starting to see the beautiful benefits of it in the lives of abandoned dogs. And as a vet myself i feel free to say that i think good dog trainers saves more lives than we do. It's heartbreaking to be the hand that euthanizes dogs everyday when there's clearly no medical reason to do so, only lack of knowledge or bad handling from the owners. Your work is more than awesome, it's necessary!
