I love how you emphasize the importance of engagement, especially when training your dog not to be distracted. I adopted a one year old Chihuahua/Boston mix this past September, who is very high energy but ‘bullies’ (has attacked) small timid dogs (one in particular, who happens to be my best friend’s dog who spends half the summer at my house - big challenge!), but using a place board & getting his engagement, while being distracted, has been very successful so far. The key will be in a couple weeks when the fearful/timid dog will be here & I get to try to keep a little Charlie from being distracted in ‘real time’. I use a prong collar on Charlie, but I’ve never needed to do more than a very slight little pop to get his attention. Thank you so much for your videos, they are the closest I’ve seen to the actual training that I’ve been taking him for. His 5 weeks of training are over & my bank account has just about been strained to the max, so I am very appreciative of your videos. ❤🐕

This is a good video showing how important having good handling skills is in dog training. Nice job conveying this to the puppy owner. People training is just as important if not more so than dog training. A dog trainer needs to be a good people trainer too! Nice job. Beautiful pup.

Not a dog owner but these videos are great, I learned so much just from binge watching the channel the past two days, especially the podcasts and you educating those people who bought a malinois. You’re a bad ass man great work!

Watching the difference in drive between Ciggy the Mali pup and this Akita pup is incredible. It really does show the differences in breed drives. Great work though. Thank you : )

Thank you for this, started using it on Marley, noticed distractions were a nightmare, not even a treat could get him back, I've added a house line and removed distractions in the kitchen, and when he wonders I call and praise for attention and coming towards me, where he doesn't, I start 'running away' and calling him, but I'm keen not to over use his name. When he doesn't pay attention, do I just act excited or excited AND call his name? Thinking just the name when he does actually come to my feet? He's only eight weeks but super bright so I'm trying to capitalise, already crate trained, sit (but in front of me or where he is) look at me and responds fairly well to his name, but as I say, already over used it a bit so I'm practicing NOT repeating it when I want him to focus and using something else before his name, the house line correction I hadn't tried either!

Some dog owners are very dull and lake the motivation that a dog needs . I have seen a big difference when people use tone and better body movement to encourage a dog in there training. It's quite interesting when watching a group of people people training there dogs and seeing how the dog responds. Being mindful of one's self and your dog, videoing yourself when training can really help us see what we are doing wrong too.

Hi Robert, I don't know if you still do Ask me Anything, but I have a question regarding vitamins and supplements. Do you recommend them? It's hard to find solid unbiased reviews, even on Amazon. I'm trying to prevent hip dysplasia on my golden retriever, and was wondering if you had any advice. Thank you so much

Robert has recommended products he buys from Amazon. There are some supplements on there as well. Check his website and click on shop.

Two months ago, I reluctantly accepted two 5 month old blackmouth cur (hunting/working dogs) puppies from a young man who rescued them from a rancher (from his hog dogs) who was going to shoot them but agreed to let him take them. The young man had no place to keep them. Since he worked for my sil, they called me. I live on 3.5 acres with lots of fencing, but at 7 mos. old now, they either dig under or climb over all of my fencing. I have always crated them at night, but kept them in a half acre fenced area during the day except for their nap times. Now, I am having to keep them in their crates most of the time during the day in order to keep them and my neighbors' chickens, cats and other dogs safe. Currently, if they are outside, I am outside. These dogs are fast diggers!! I started basic obedience training as soon as I got them. Still continuing their training for 15 min. twice a day along with 30 to 45 min walks twice a day. No rescues (have contacted 8 rescues several times) will take them because they are all full and because they are considered very smart but dominant dogs. I have had them both spayed, shots including rattlesnake, and on Heartgard and Bravecto. Just found your channel 2 days ago. Am learning a lot, thank you. My question: I need some kind of schedule for them. I am a retired teacher, but I am working harder than ever trying to meet these dogs' needs and properly train them and acclimate them to my 8 y.o. GSD/Boxer female. I have had to break up 2 bad fights. At least all 3 listened to me and stopped, but now, I make sure to keep them apart. I am hoping that someone will want a wonderful well-behaved very active dog, but until I find that right person, I need help figuring out a schedule for them to keep them happy and healthy. One puppy is learning to play fetch, the other one isn't interested in any fetching balls or tug toys so far nothing. Their main fun activity is to play fight, but I am starting to worry about the play turning into real fights. So have decided for now, not to walk them together. Anyways, yes, long post, but any suggestions? Right now, their crates are in the same room. Good or bad? Thanks!

have you considered an electric fence to keep them in your perimeters? Being crated during the day seems like a much bigger loss for them than the initial discomfort of learning the e-fence boundaries.
@HollyBelle532 жыл бұрын
@@Rubyruppells This past September, I fortunately found them a home with a local rancher who just lost his BMC cattle dog. They took them both and will be training them to help gather cattle on their ranches in TX and OK. This rancher has over 30 years training and working cow dogs. I was very, very happy!

My question is how long should training last for a puppy born on July 28, 2021? We just picked her up 3 weeks ago. She is not food driven, but toy driven. When we got her, she was free fed on kibble, and had raw meat diet mornings and nights. We are working on just 4 meals a day, removing what is left in 30 minutes. Kibble first training in mornings, then given to finish, then egg to train and given to finish. Brunch and lunch Kibble. Dinner is Kibble then raw. We tried 3 meals but She become snappy and unhappy about everything. 4 meals has helped with attitude. 24lbs now. She wants to smell and eat everything in the yard. Her release is great. Her here is the worst. Siberian/German Rottweiler with strong working bloodline. We have certain weeds we want out of yard, and the goes crazy with them after being pulled out. 2 weeks of trying teach her to leave them, and now we are training how to pull the right ones out of the ground via smell... its working( we have 4 acres). Glad to see you still post here. Hope to learn more puppy stuff, then go advanced with a trainer.

Please help, my 7 year old male Pomeranian is usually good at recall and listening to commands etc but last year we got a french bull dog puppy (also male) and every few months my Pomeranian goes through a stage of obsession with my french bull dog which lasts about a week. He will not stop licking him, following him, trying to hump him etc. He will simply not listen to any commands. We have had multiple trainers and the most recent one has told us to re-home our Pom which we really do not want, neither dogs have been neutered and it is something that we have thought about doing but we need advice on why this could be happening and whether there is any way to solve the problem, as our last trainer said he can not work with them. We are worried that it is causing both dogs stress and anxiety and there are a few other problems linked to this which has ended in fights and aggression between them

Hello Mr. Cabral. I’m going to adopt a 2 years old Malinois. Is it trainable or not? Or is it gonna be a problem, since it’s not eager to learn anymore? Thanks and have a nice day.
@RobertCabralDogs3 жыл бұрын
Any age dog can learn if it wants to and you’re willing to try. Especially a Malinois.

Any tips on how to keep my dog focused on me while im training her outside? She loses interest the moment after i give her a treat for doing something, and its hard to get her to come back to do the command again. This video helped, but not the specific problem im having
@stasn37153 жыл бұрын
First you need to build the foundation inside where is very little distraction. So the dog will tune to you as much as possible. After that when the foundation is strong you can start switching to outside.

Looks easy to ppl watching..but it’s not..marker word “yes” is used to mark, then “good” should be a continuing reinforcement, it’s so easy to start forgetting and just saying “good boy!”..I’m real guilty of that..

I do wonder how wearing a mask affects the communication with dogs. I am raising a litter of puppies now and wear a mask around them off and on just so they are socialized to people wearing masks.

Max seems to suffer from a boring owner syndrome. this dog would pleased to abandon its owner as soon as it could. give this dog a purpose, go hunt some rats or any small rodents, and this dog will sit down and come at the heartbeat. and don't mutilate any other dogs. leave the animal with the scrotum intact until they death.
@hippiebits20713 жыл бұрын
Generally a rather aloof and very composed breed of dog...they aren't prone to fits of unbridled enthusiasm and silliness. Even as puppies it can take ALOT to keep them interested. Generally fantastic dogs for someone who wants a very loyal and formidable dog that isn't overwhelming when it comes to their activity level. I would have 100% stuck with the breed forever but they aren't the best choice in my experience around smaller animals and other dogs of the same sex. Magnificent animals.
