If you have brake lights that will not go out there's a good chance that this switch at the brake pedal arm has gone bad or has come loose from its bracket. This video will show you how to find the switch for the brake lights and the cruise control shut off.

When my brake lights wouldn't go off, I did a KZbin search and wow, I have exactly that same Maxima, same color and everything. We found the grommet of whatever it's called on the floor mat. I'm gonna get a quote from the mechanic, knowing the problem, as my driveway is hardly a fun place to work on such things.

On mine the little black rubber pad got old and fell out so the plunger would go straight through the hole in the lever. They have them at your local parts store. Oreilly's didn't have the right size to fit mine so I bought a pack of plastic body panel tabs . Tab snapped in perfect, problem solved less than $5. Cant remember the part Number for the tabs but have them at home.

Good video. My car has the switches behind some kind of plate...I'm assuming I can remove that plate but I'm not totally sure! I don't want to wreck something even worse. I was looking for more videos to see if others really have removed that plate or if they just crane and arch and thread their way through to the switch.

I know this is a old video, but I have a 4th gen. I swapped my bulbs to LEDs, the only issue I had was front turn signals hyperflashed and corrected that with a resistor. My issue now is my front 4 parking lights flash everytime I press the brake pedal. I get a fairly loud clicking sound like a relay from what sounds like under the shifter area. Is that normal? Could that be the brake swich? I double checked all my wiring and it only did this after the LED swap. I may try going back to halogen on my parking lighys and try that. The only way to stop the flashing is to have the parking lights on anytime im driving which is illegal, though it does look nice that way. Thx.
@RobertDIY
@RobertDIY Жыл бұрын
was it doing it before you changed bulbs? The shift release solenoid is there and probably just getting loud before failure.

@@RobertDIY I dont think so, i didnt know because when I tested brake lights i pressed brakes and my cousin checked tail lights, everything was good, until I started driving around and people honked because at a 4 way stop I was basically giving them the go ahead even if it was my turn, yet no one told me. I noticed when i let my mother use it and she got in to start and i was standing off to driver side and she pressed brake pedal to start car and thats when I seen the front parking lights flash. Its only one flash every time I hear the click when brake pedal pressed, holding pedal down no lights, like its a relay tripping them, blueprints show parking lights tied in with brake lights, so that was my initial thought. As to forums, you replied quicker then they did and I put the post up a week ago, you replied within hours. So i may change back to halogen today after work and see if that corrects it. Im not sure a resistor would work as its not hyperflashing. Otherwise everything else funtions normally, I did notice my 3rd brake light is out as well, i never changed that one yet.

Misael Cartagena There were 2 parts missing. The first one was under the brake pedal but I'm not sure where the other one was. Sorry. It was causing a slow drain of the battery, so by the end of the week the battery was dead. It's a small round part about the size of a penny. I believe it was only 4-5 dollars. Labor was 40. Or you could do it yourself and save money.

There is a grommet on the brake pedal that the brake pedal switch pushes against. Go get a piece of bumper retainer trim from Lowe’s or Home Depot it’s the right size to go through that hole. Then press down on the brake pedal with your right elbow and reach up in there with your right hand and push the bumper retainer trim through the hole. Permanent fix.
