I am facing a similar issue with the rear passenger door lock except it is stuck in the unlocked position. I feel much more confident tearing into my door after watching your video. Hello Mr.Robert! I am amazed and grateful that you take time to help those in need with our D.I.Y ventures! i am currently having issues with my trunk not opening with my keys! i disconnected the battery and took the battery to autozone for a 2 hour charge up! i didnt know that closing the trunk would be an issue! but i guess it is if the steering wheel column wasnt locked(which means my trunk was in alarm state when i disconected the battery).Now i cant get into my trunk!!!! (tears) i live in chicago and i am afarid that my lines may freeze up due to lack of start up! plzz help if you can! Its troubling traveling to work in the city of chicago on public transit.

Your videos are the best out there. I have the same model car, same problem but with the front driver side. The problem is the actuator has a cover on it, so I can't get to the actuator (or even see it) to pry it into the unlock position. I can send a photo.

Thank you very much! That small microswitch you mentioned has recently failed on my car, so the door doesn’t know whether it’s closed or open anymore. Occasionally, I’ll get a warning message on the display saying that the door is open when it isn’t, along with the puddle light and interior lights coming on. The most annoying thing about this, however, is that I can no longer lock my car properly, since the alarm comes on randomly when the car thinks the door is open. I will need to replace that switch soon, so thank you for the very helpful guide!

Meet a guy with a Rolls Royce Phantom that had the same problem. The car would only drive 4 mph when it thinks the door is open. He learned that there are only 6 more latches available in the world. Soon, they will have to junk those 350,000 cars when the last latch is sold. lol

A HUGE SAFTEY REMINDER , you want to wind the windows up all the way and disconnect the battery, or you run the risk of cutting your hand off off , the window glass could drop on your hand !

My front drivers side door is stuck in the lock position. I can not get in or out of it. The lock is stuck down, and the passenger side door does not unlock the drivers side door. Should I be looking for the cable or the actuator

I have had a tough time getting the panel back onto the front door. The handle needs to be secured to the door itsef. So the panel fits over that and I removed the wood trim to help. But I don't seem to be able to get the top to slide over the door easily. Any tips?

Robert have a question for you. My 01 XJ8 VDP driver door began making a loud 2 part popping sound coming from the spring load pivot. I have it happening when I open & closing door. Hinges are tight the plastic cover that hides mounting bracket I had removed to inspect, lubed inside door & at pivot point but baffled. Is there a nylon sleeve inside that may have worn off??It's the only possible conclusion I have deducted without pulling my inside door panel off to inspect further. Thanks for input on issue

It's the door check arm that's popping

As Rick P said, the door check strap is likely broken. It holds the door open to the 2 positions and stops it from opening to far.

I was hoping to have an easy fix but further video researches show it may be caused by metal fatigue where the 2 studs for door check mount inside door. I'll find a good used one before I tear into removing inner door panel in case it's the inner roller that may have shattered off. Thanks for your input Robert

Hi Robert, my name is David. Several of your videos have helped me fix problems w my daughters 1999 Jaguar XJ8. I've done extensive research but can't seem to figure out the latest issue, so I'm reaching out to you. I hope you can help. The gearshift is stuck in park. I've identified the #7 fuse (15) amp located under the rear passenger side seat is blown. I replaced it and the problem was solved for a few days. Now the problem is back - but this time the fuse pops the moment I insert it. I read this fuse is tied to the gear shift solenoid and the wiring loom in the trunk. I found a pinched wire with exposed copper in the connector that plugs into the rear drivers side brake light. I straightened out the wire and carefully wrapped it w electrical tape. This did not fix the short in the fuse box. The fuse still pops as soon as I insert it and I can't seem to find any other broken or pinched wires. Do you have any advice, before I give in and take it to a repair shop tomorrow? Thank you so much for what you do! Have a Blessed New Year - David

+Harbir Kalkat It is possible. How strong is the battery? These cars have a lot of issues with electronics when the battery is not very strong. You can also check with a Jaguar forum.

Man, I don't know. Sounds like something may have gotten jammed in the latch. Try pulling harder, then a Jaguar mechanic.

Anthony Mitchell over the years they usually get stuck with dirt. Usually they have a spring plastic clip, push it towards that then pull out the other edge.

The same thing happened to my Jag. Someone had actually ripped the outside handle off and eventually the inside latch stopped working. I had it fixed and replaced the handles and then the outside keyhole lock stopped working completely. I swear this car is cursed as many other things have gone wrong with it.

Sad to say that things break every day on old cars. Realistically weekly. Parts wear, plastic deteriorate, relays quit, it's just the nature of the beast. Driving old cars is usually an economic decision. If you can afford a newer car, go for it. Sad but true. If you can not fix them yourself, European cars are not good for you.
