2010 Nissan Pathfinder 4.0 4x4 Air Conditioner Not Working

I had a customer come in with a 2010 Nissan Pathfinder 4.0 4x4 with the Air Conditioner not working. Today we are going to go through step by step and see if we can figure out what is wrong.

Your in-depth diagnosis was very helpful I learned a year ago that the relay was built into the fuse block for the AC and did not know how to test it until I saw your video. I had replaced the compressor last year on my dads pathfinder and looks like I’m going to have to do it again this year, where he had bought a used one from a salvage yard last year

By probing the yellow a/c wire and getting the testlight to light, you also confirmed that the a/c pressure sensor in the condenser is good and the amount of psi in the system is providing an ohms value that in within range for the control unit to switch it on. Of course no light wouldn't have told you it was bad; it could've been low pressure in that case.

I have a 2002 pathfinder, I've had it 4 years and most of that time the passenger foot well had been damp and will never dry even if I leave the door open in the sun. The a/c didn't work when I first had it, but now does. I heard it could be a blockage in the a/c line?? How do I check??

Could be a blockage but if it was then you have way bigger problems. There should never be a way for the ac system to block. I would look for a leaking cowl or heater core causing your floor to be wet.

Nice video man.. i have a question about that..my compressor wont start when i turn on the ac..but when i connect it directly to the battey it works again. A technician checked all fuses and relays and they are good and told me its a sensor located in the evaporator that needs to be changed that gives the order to the compressor to engage. Now He did a sort of a bypass with a wire that he connected to the yellow wire and now the compressor turns on when i turn on the fans but stays on continuisly. Any idea what is this sensor he is talking about because the cost is expensive and needs to remove the dashboard as he said. Thanks

If it is behind the dash he is probably talking about the evaporator temperature sensor. He should have documented this on your bill.

I changed the evaporator temperature sensor which is located behind the glove box quite easily. Based ln his story its something connedted to the evaporator directly thats why he needs to remove the dashboard. Do you have any suggestion of what can be the problem ? Maybe the tech i asked gave me a wrong diagnostic

I don't like to guess. You either need to get a scan tool that can scan the hvac system for codes or look for a data pid that says ac disabled due to... If you cant, then i would suggest taking it to another shop and getting the results of the diag in writing. If you paid them for diagnostics and they didn't write down what was exactly wrong then you did not get what you paid for.

How do you jump the AC relay to manually engage the compressor in order to changer Refrigerant ?

You may not be able to juno the relay if it's built into the module.

I have a 2013 pathfinder, the blower works, checked to see if it was A/C gas missing, it was fine, guess i will have to take it to a mechanic, my fear is how some prey on you because of a lack of knowledge ...I'm from Suffern,NY.

You would have to get a wiring diagram and see how the system operates then start troubleshooting.

Best thing to do would be to get repair information from MitchellDIY or a subscription to nissan repair information and look at a wiring diagram. It will give you the most accurate information for you vheicle.

I don't know what you by illumination unless you mean the A/C light is off. Did you try scanning the HVAC module for codes?

Nissan quoted me $1,055 to replace my compressor on my 2017 Nissan Frontier

It may cost more that that I depends if the compressor is bad and how it failed. Debris could be in the entire system and it has to be replaced or thoroughly cleaned or the new compressor will fail. Ac system is one of the most expensive systems on the car.

I try not to trim my videos. I keep them full length so people can get an idea how long it takes. Some videos I make are really really short. I started putting timestamps in newer videos for people. When I make longer ones I almost never get questions how I did stuff. The short ones I always get questions. I would rather have all the info posted then miss something.
