Isn't it usually possible to just obtain correct schematic and symbols for components we intend to use? Is there a standard way to define schematic symbol and PCB foot prints?

For anyone stuck around 33:56 you get to your library in (panel)===>Components===>select your schlib and it should have your components listed from the created library. If not save all the files and it will update and then go back and check.

Hi Robert! Thanks for a great tutorial. I wanted to comment on something that may affect the experience of other users, and that is how we search for parts. I suggest you add an edit that lets people know that stock may vary, so they may not find the part you use if they follow your steps exactly. This happened to me, which is why I mention it. Disabling stock as a filter will give you more consistent results. Of course, this doesn't apply to irl design, where having stock is important, but it serves the purpose of the tutorial learning experience.

a quick question Robert, in my altium 18.0, the properties option is missing and also, its not there in the Panel option. I think the 18.0.10 was a beta version. Is that can be the problem? Also, I'm not able to open the properties of components by double click on them, which we were able to do with older versions.
@RobertFeranec6 жыл бұрын
I do not have Altium right now here, but I believe you should be able to see the Properties panel in AD18.0. If it is not open and if it is not in Panel option, I think, double click could also open it. But I would have to try it. AD18.0 had some bugs (e.g I remember, that if Properties panel width was too small, some values in the panel were not shown properly)

Thank you Pavel :) Do you mean my other youtube videos? - This video is based on the new Altium. This tutorial has much more info and is much more complex than the Altium tutorials what I shared on my youtube some time ago. You will see in the next parts. - Learn Altium Essentials - Doing layout is from our course, so on youtube is just a small part of much bigger video. The whole course goes into much more details and it is not just about Altium, but it is about hardware design. The course is about designing switching power supplies and includes comments about how to design switching power supply, what is important, how to do it and why we are doing it that way.

I like making my schematic symbols with the outline color the color of part manufacturer, white inside so I can paste the package pinout from the data sheet, I then give it a dark grey shadows and set grid to 10 mil and offset it 30 mile down and 30 mils to the right. They look gorgeous and make it more fun. The yellow boxes are simple but boring but traditional.

@RobertFeranec6 жыл бұрын
Usually 1 is cathod. I do not know why this specific manufacturer used number 2 in the datasheet. However, in this case, it is fine - in this case you do not need to follow datasheet, just be consistent between your symbol and footprint numbering.

Great tutorial. It would be great however if you could explain in more detail basic concepts that may be considered unusual. For example, why do we need to be creating those pin layouts in the sch library when adding components that have been loaded from digikey's DB? I find it very tedious that this needs to be done for every component and I don't quite understand why. Doesn't the software already have connection details and symbols defined?
@優さん-n7m2 жыл бұрын
did you find the answer to this at the end?

How do you figure out the dimensions of each object? How do you know if your pin must be 200 mil long vs 100 mil long (as an example) and how do the lengths affect performance or operation? For example, if I used different lengths for the resistor or diode symbol, how will that affect my PCB? If there are some standard, well accepted design principles on drawing these symbols (ex: it is recommended for pins to be 200 mil long) where can I find these?
