...You shouldn't say that. What you schould do instead is taking what he says as a thinking subject. After reaching a conclusion, come back here, split the ideas and hypotheses he gives, think it through, analyse it in a total silence, and compare it to your own, without bias. This is how your mind grows, this is how You grow. Listening or reading about other people's thoughts doesn't exempt us from thinking on our own. ...Always think Your Own Way.

Speaking of your books, I want to acknowledge the quality of them. Not just what they have to offer but the physical quality of them, they don’t break at the seam when you open them fully for the first time, you don’t need to straighten out every single page for them to stay open, the small little details show your creativity and passion. Every time I see this I’m reassured you actually care about what you’re doing

I'm actually watching a video series about how to overcome OCD and I noticed some similarities. So you can't control intrusive thoughts or obsessions, and each time you give into a compulsion response, it temporarily lowers anxiety, but then it shortly spikes back up, whereas when you don't respond, anxiety is heightened, but over time goes down. But there aren't really 'intrusive thoughts.' You only get more of certain thoughts because you attach importance to them. You can't really not think them either. But the video I was watching today was saying you can't just, 'not do the compulsion' and if it was that easy people wouldn't have OCD, so she was saying you have to purposefully expose yourself to the feared thing multiple times, increasing the intensity each time, and attempt not to do the compulsion response during the exposure.

Robert, In my opinion the problem is not just willpower, because as you know habits are powerful and addictions too but they are double powerful because they change the way you think, and u will come up with all sorts of extremely convincing reasons of why you should be doing something that you actually shouldn't be doing.. so how you fight your own logic when you find a logical explanation of "alright i guess this time it makes sense to have that beer" for example. I'm currently studying life coaching and a model/framework that I've learnt is called the "pain vs pleasure" model, which essentially allows us to explore all the negative and positive associations we've created around a particular challenge that we're experiencing. Understanding the negative has the ability to empower us to move towards the positive.

Thank you Robert for your vidéo. I have à lot of anxiety and stress and I do struggle à lot in life with negative émotions. I also use à lot of méditation like mindfulness in order to observe and have a better control on my décisions and actions. I can connect with your explanations very often and I must say that training our brain is like training a muscle. It takes much training and iterations but there is results. I use the "free won't" to actually choose better things that have à positif impact, ex : "I do not choose an appartment near a busy street". Very often some People around me were very/too much positiv when I told them some of my challenges or décisions and I did choose to be like them rather than myself and listening to my needs and it did cost me á lot as well since they do not have the same expérience as me. My point is that listening to the free won't is important to have à good balance and satisfy our own needs. Thank you Robert.

I agree with much of this. I practice daily what not to choose, as it is both necessary to choose the things you want as it is necessary to choose what not to entertain. We cannot focus solely on thinking positively on what we want to acquire, we also have to reduce the amount of things that are limiting our progress. Just like with physical things, we have to limit also negative flood of thoughts, as it is as imperative to do so as it is to learn more positive thought patterns. But I often examine my negative beliefs before discarding them.

People are being conditioned into impulsively. It is the fuel of consumerism. Change, more change and thensome can really stuff up a person's life if it is ill considered. What got my life on track was '10 years of stability'. Stability is essential to success, along with hard work and focusing on achieving your goals. The impulsively mind can derail you. So be aware of it and learn to control it.

I’m so glad you’re going to write a book on the subject of negative thinking. Please consider the work of Julie K. Norem, PhD. in her book, “The Positive Power of Negative Thinking” and the book, “Rethinking Positive Thinking” by Gabrielle Oettingen, PhD. in your research. The author of the first book discusses at length how both “optimism” and constructive “pessimism” are both meta-cognitive strategies for dealing with anxiety. However, using pessimism is far more valuable (useful and practical) toward reaching goals, of any kind, rather than being merely optimistic concerning the outcome. The author of the second book has, through her research, pioneered a technique called “WOOP” which allows people to strategize their negative thinking toward accomplishing their goals. Both books are amazing. Also, if you find their work valuable, please consider interviewing either or both of the authors. Good Luck!

Thanks Robert. I'm not sure that the chain of events in the brain indicate a lack of free will. Rather, they are the necessary biological processes that occur with actions. So it often starts with a thought (I know there are unconscious actions like breathing for example), but if it's a thought, then you will have the thought, which is brain activity, then you will have the brain activity that signals the hand to move for example and then you will consciously move the hand. So when it starts with a willful thought (me deciding to move my hand), I'm exercising my free will to move my hand and then the brain goes through the process of signaling, and it takes a few hundred miliseconds for me to be conscious of moving my hand. But it all started with my free will. Yes we have random thoughts from time to time but there are both willful thoughts and random thoughts.

Thank you SO MUCH for this Robert!!! I truly AGREE with the negativity it sometimes acts as an agent of "processsing" hurt that leads to transformation. I often used to tell people that I would "marinate" in my loss or betrayal from someone to leave me be. But when I started mindfulness they taught me the opposite. What Ive found is that when I DO marinate in my betrayal from someone its a sort of processing for me so that I can TRULY be done with that person. On the contrary if I just kept excersising my mindfulness and practicing forgiveness as Ive been beat over my head with all my life Ive found that Ive let that person back in 2,3,4, 10 times to have another go at me. I LOVE your teachings and I ABSOLUTELY love how youve said "Its not always good to be in the present moment", that strategizing requires studying the past while "planning" our next move for our future!!!! I LOVE YOU, thanks to your teachings I've changed much of what Ive been programmed with and I AM empowered on my path to Self Mastery!! Blessings to you!!! I cant wait for your next book so I can master my processing even better!!! 💥💕
