Lyrics
On waves of love my heart is breaking
And stranger still my self control I can't rely on anymore
New tide, surprise, my world is changing
Within this frame an ocean swell behind the smile, I know it well
Beneath a lover's moon I'm waiting
I am the pilot of the storms, adrift in pleasure I may drown
I built this ship it is my making
And furthermore, my self control, I can't rely on anymore
I know why
I know why
Crazy on a ship of fools
Crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around, back to my loving ground
Oh, no, oh, no
Who claims that no man is an island?
While I land up in jeopardy, more distant from you by degrees
I walk this shore in isolation
And at my feet eternity draws ever sweeter plans for me
I know why
I know why

I fell in love with Robert Plant on February 16, 1969. I was 16 and went to a vanilla fudge concert. Another band, called Led Zeppelin, was the warm-up act. When I first laid eyes on Mr. Plant, I couldn't believe how beautiful he was and how powerfully he sang. Back in those days, we'd never seen a front man with long golden locks who wore open chest shirts and kicked ass with his vocals. Robert invented that. When I try to count all the blonde, big haired singers that imitated him since then, i lose count, I feel great knowing I saw the original in concert. Love you, Mr Plant ❤ You are the greatest!

I saw Zeppelin in 1973 at MSG. I was 17, could not peel my eyes off of RP. I can honestly say I remember nothing of the concert other than lusting for him…(saw Vanilla Fudge back in the day) a friend of mine is now the bass player for Vanilla Fudge.

I love that it's in my rotation of mix songs. I really like Principle of Moment's as well. Plant's solo efforts are what introduced me to how great Led Zeppelin is. I was just a touch too young to catch them the first time around. I was just beginning my musical experimentation in the early 80's and I always thought of them as more my parents age so I never gave them a thought. Glad I got up to speed......LOL.

I have front row seats and he walked out wearing this tight outfit with a perfect body his muscles were bulging and he looked so hot. Then he put on the most incredible show I've ever seen. I've actually seen Page and Plant and Led Zeppelin after that and his solo performance was so much better. I still can't believe how good he looked. He was so so sexy

This track along with "Big Log" are two classic tunes from Robert's Solo career that are timeless. For the same reasons we drift away in our thoughts to "In the Air Tonight" - Phil Collins, Or Robbie Roberston' "Somewhere Down The Crazy River" These tracks let the 80's be more than silly hair and neon coloured pants...and turned the second generation of classic rock into a realm worth remembering.

@@incognito7479 I think you'll find that I wasn't making a comparison and it is something that I think is a failure of published music critics especially during that period with the " who is the genius behind the music, who is the best?" angle when in fact, it is my lived experience in the collaborative formation of a few decent bands that the magic happens when the comparisons are left at the door so that the collective input of all members including some non playing but essential parts can be woven in to something that is greater than the sum of those parts. There is so much more to succeeding in music than singular notoriety✌️

I also met him a few times in the mid 90s... actually hung out with him various times over the weeks he and the band spent in Pensacola preparing to start their tour. He was extremely kind, funny, rarely drank, smoked or used foul language. He carried this cool wallet from the 70s. Looked like something he'd picked up at a festival. Definitely handmade. I found it very telling of his personality. Pretty humble guy, actually, though he did say he remembers feeling immortal when he was about 17, overlooking the crowd that packed the stadium where they were playing.
