I really thought that, without Zeppelin, Robert Plant would be nothing, but, with songs like this, he totally proved me wrong.

I've heard many different recordings and performances of Tim Hardin's classic song. This will never need to be recorded again. This is the pinnacle of perfection.

Love his music from bak in the day. When music was actually singing. Dream weaver was played daily and me and my friends (all deceased now) were living our best lives on the weekends at the lake , getting tans and not burning up even though we were at the lake all day. Now you get outside in the sun, you burn up in 30 minutes or less. Anyway great times in the 70s & 80s. Miss them a lot. Strange different world now.

I've met Robert once and when I asked him about the song and tried to say some words about how intense it was, he told me the story with the girlfriend. Nice to hear it again here :)

Robert, Brian the newspaper journalist who you were friends with the husband to my mum. He really didn't want to interview you when you lost your child. He really didn't , but his newspaper gave him no choice. After this you didn't want anything to do with him. He has now retired after a heart attack. Please if you ever see him again talk to him , he's a good man. St Michael. ( mighty rearranger.)

Why this song is called 'Big Log': "'Big Log' was written in the middle of winter. We'd run out of fuel for the fire. We found the remains of an old tree lying outside, which was about 15 feet long, but had nothing to cut it with. So we put one end in the fire and slowly burnt it, till it was hollow."
