Reminds me of leaving football matches in the 90s, someone would always have a radio like this to listen to the other scores.

Yeah, quite nostalgic, these sort of radios, aren’t they, but still a handy standby i reckon, in case of emergencies. Such good battery life on this radio! I still use mine very often in my bathroom 👍

Thanks for the video - i do agree such great radios that out perform their size and price. The quality of FM outperforms my DAB!

It’s great that you get more stations on dab, but the superb performance of this cheap little radio is impossible to beat in terms of battery life, price and portability. You’ll be glad you have this little Roberts come the war! Lol🤘

I love little radios, they're dead good. One was my constant companion in the 80s when I lived in the middle east, hot sultry nights, full of warm wine with the sound of far away cracking through the darkness, happy days.

Yeah I have a ‘thing’ for little portable radios - in the early ‘90’s I had a period of a couple of years where all I had was a portable radio (a Roberts R760 - wish I still had it!): tbh I didnt really miss tv during that time and the internet wasn’t what it is now, and I have a great affection for radio to this day as a result. I like how radio doesn’t necessarily distract you from doing other things like tv can. What were the cracking sounds you used to hear?? Military?

Awesome. A fun thing to do with an AM radio is to attach a makeshift external antenna and see how many very far off stations you can pick up. Works best at sunset when radio signals tend to skip off the ionosphere. Nice!!

At night the Ionosphere rises far higher in the atmosphere because solar radiation isn't forcing it near the ground so AM radio signals "bounce" farther. During the 1960s in the far west of Ireland during daylight we could pick up only RTE Radio1 (MW) and BBC Radio 4 (LW) on AM radios. After the sun set we could pick up what seemed like every radio station in Europe. (Even Radio Moscow, with a female Russian presenter who tried to speak English exactly like the English Queen!) Radio Luxembourg and Pirate Radio Caroline were my favourites.

I’m in Florida, near the coast 100 miles north of Miami. Emergency radios are definitely a good idea here, what with hurricanes. Electric power can be out for a week, easily, after a hurricane.

Definitely an essential item for places like where you live. 🤞🤞✌️

I’ve got one but in a world of DAB I can’t find myself using it anymore. This model is made by Sangean, they do really good FM radios as well as DAB. Still searching for a good tiny DAB model, I returned the Majority Eddington as it had some serious hiss/background noise which in 2024 isn’t good enough

Yes I do kinda agree with you - it’s hard to love fm/am nowadays on little portable radios purely because of the much greater choice on dab. I listen to BBC 5Live and the world service a lot: 5Live reception where I live is verrry poor on AM, and the world service… well I can’t really be bothered even trying to find it on short wave - can’t pick it up here. So yeah DAB is just so much easier. And like you I’ve struggled to find good small dab radios - especially in terms of battery life. The little Roberts Sports 925 is such a trooper in terms of battery but I haven’t found a single portable DAB that lasts longer than about 20 hours (that being the Roberts Petite). So frustrating! And that’s why I’d still want my Sports 925 in any emergency or power cut situations. I have found a couple of ok-ish small/pocket dab radios but the battery life is still a problem for any longer periods away for a power source. I agree, Sangean makes some excellent stuff 🙂👍 I believe the Sangean SR35 is this exact radio repackaged under their branding.

Reminds me of a similar one I bought as a 10 year old in the year 2000. Didn't even have a brand on it. Nonetheless it still works today. Goes to show things were made with better quality in mind in the past.

Yeah I suppose it’s such old and stable technology. My old Sports 925 radio has been used mostly in the bathroom for over 20years and is still going strong 💪 Not killed by steam or regular use!

There's now official guidance on gov websites to have FM radio, batteries, bottled water etc, given the state of things now
@accoutrements44693 ай бұрын
I did a bit of googling after reading your comment… that’s very interesting to hear about the new guidance isn’t it. I think these are potentially scary times we’re living in atm aren’t they with the war in Ukraine… 😟

From what I can see it's exactly the same radio as the Sangean SR35, which might be more available in the US/elsewhere? Good little radio 👍
