London Bridge spans the Colorado River in Arizona? Is this just some tourist gimmick? Nope! It's the real deal. In this video we will explore London Bridge history and views of London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
More than 50 years ago the City of London decided it was time to update London Bridge which spanned the River Thames. The bridge was purchased by Lake Havasu City. It was then dismantled and shipped from London to Lake Havasu City where it was reassembled to connect the city to an island in the Colorado River
London Bridge in Lake Havasu City is now the second most popular tourist destination in all of Arizona behind only the Grand Canyon. In addition to the bridge itself, the Bridgewater Channel Walk runs along both sides of the channel and provides access to recreation opportunities.
London Bridge is worth seeing next time you are in western Arizona, but be sure to check out the Bridgewater Channel Walk as well!

Holy cow! I didn't know any of this, nor have I seen any of that and I've been to Havasu countless times! Now I can't wait to go back! Very nice cinematic video Robert. Thanks for sharing!

I had no idea about any of it either until I just stopped this time. Basically just wandered around and found all of this. It’s my favorite part of Lake Havasu City now. Of course, I try to avoid the rest of the city as much as possible! LOL

I knew the London Bridge was in Arizona but haven't visited yet. When my mom and I went to England in 1982, we went on a tour and the guide was telling the group that the "famous" London Bridge we were seeing was a replica and the "real" one was over a man made lake, in Arizona in America. Lol. Great video Robert. Safe Travels, Hugs and Luvs always! Every day's a holiday(even when it isn't, lol) Raised By Wolves-Susan&Karen

I believe I remember that when the contractors bought that bridge, they thought they were buying the Tower Bridge which they mistakenly thought was called “London Bridge”. I recall a newspaper article about the confusion at the time....i think. It has been awhile. Even though it’s not Tower Bridge, it is a nice stately bridge.

I have floated down the Thames River and been across a few of the London bridges. It's a big part of what makes that city special. So happy to see one in Arizona. When I start traveling I will look this up. Looks like a great hike around too. I have never seen anyone else talk about this. Thanks for sharing.

That would be fun to see the bridges along the Thames. I really enjoyed exploring along the channel walk. I found it more or less by accident as I was just exploring a bit and thought it looked interesting. The channel walk connects a bunch of "touristy" stuff right by the bridge with playgrounds, picnic tables, and even beaches a short distance away. It kind of reminded me of the San Antonio Riverwalk, though on a smaller scale.

Very interesting! Talk about reuse/recycle! I would love to see the bridge some day. Lovely video - thanks!

I love the reuse/recycle application! Sounds like it was quite a project. They literally disassembled the bridge block by block, numbered each, shipped them all to Arizona, and then reassembled it with a new steel frame. Pretty fascinating and quite insightful on the part of Lake Havasu City to realize the tourism potential.

$2.5 million to buy it and another $4.5 million to ship it and construct it. Wow, that's a hefty chunk of change in the late 60s. Glad it seemed to pay off for Arizona.

Seems like it must have been a real risk (or gamble?) but it appears that it worked. It is pretty cool to drive over a bridge from London in Arizona! LOL

That part of town is not bad, if you accept it for what it is. Interesting little museum there as well. Had some decent fish and chips at the nearby restaurant. 😋 --Mark

I hear you! Normally I totally hate Lake Havasu City and cannot get through it fast enough. Which by the way is never fast enough. I enjoyed the channel walk and beaches much more that anything else I have seen in Havasu, but it is not something I would do every day. Sort of reminded me of a scaled down San Antonio Riverwalk.

It's pretty cool. I drove past the signs for a few years just thinking it was a tourist gimmick so was surprised to learn the bridge was actually brought from London. Kind of a fun spot to stop if you are passing through Lake Havasu City.
