sharpening on abrasive paper, I use old worn grinding belts and micromesh strops to put a razor sharp zero scandi grind on a pukko I made. You can use the same technique with wet and dry paper.

After 26 years of more than normal amateur use, I had to replace my DMT diafold set this year. They still work to some extent but the old ones are really worn out for the most part. New set is fantastic. My micro mesh pads also had to be replaced after " only " 8 years that stuff is expensive but saved me hundreds of dollars over time and gives excellent finish. I now use one set for metal and another for wood. A little soap and water when they get clogged with material and they perform like new again.

I thought this video was very useful and informative. I've been meaning to try this for ages. I'm thinking that with a little skill and imagination, I can use the paper to turn my little strop board into a working replacement for my DC4. Much smaller and lighter... Hope this works out for me!

Actually, it wasn't tedious at all. Just couple of weeks ago I saw some video with a guy who was sharpening Mora on abrasive papers (forgot the name of the channel), and thought that it would be interesting to try, and feel difference comparing to stones. And now you've posted that re-edit, reminded me of it, and also offer opportunity to see how you are doing it. Well, thanks for sharing Rob, and thumb up!

I use the same method for sharpening any blade. It usually gives a slightly convexed edge, specially around the belly of the blade, even when sharpening scandi grinds. Does this happen to you as well?

Get it wetter and wetter still? Naughty boy, Rob! Good thing that this is not a family oriented channel. Only for the grizzled old men like us, huh? I guess KZbin cannot demonitize you. Hi Rob. I am also located in SouthWales and I don't know where can I practice bushcraft which places are legal to do so etc. Near to Bridgend and Swansea. I want to spend just a weekend in the woods relaxing. Cook my food set up my sitting and my bed and forget about everything just spend a time with nature. Please give me guidance on that. Thanks buddy. Well done sharpening well done I will use that.
@RobEvansWoodsman3 жыл бұрын
OS maps and Google earth are your best bet mate, quite populated down your way and I'll assume that most nice wooded areas get lots of traffic, I'd aim up the neath valley/brecon beacons , find a suitable spot or two on the map then find it on Google earth, take a day trip to check it out. I'd look for something near a spruce plantation with a river/stream not too far away and some mixed woodand. It won't be an easy search. Camping on the beacons is an option but not much good woodland around.

If you find somewhere closer to home (Merthyr Mawr?) There will probably be farms around , you could go and see the nearest farm and ask permission big it's their land, if it's not and they don't know who owns it and they don't have a problem with you then say fuck it and enjoy yourself, leave no trace and be careful with fire, especially where you site it , you don't want s ground fire , that's bad news. Two things and I didn't tell you this, forgiveness is easier to get than permission and acting thick can get you out of the shit. And always be nice to people in the countryside, don't look shifty!

Hi Rob!!!!thanks a lot for all the videos and inspiration!!!!! I wanted to ask you about the glue you are using to stick abrasive paper on the sea-wood. For abrasive paper I use Smirdex (waterproof) with numbers P550-P800-P1000-P1500-P2500. So is it a simple glue for woods? Of something more specific?

Hey Rob mate. I got this setup going now and really happy with it and your technique. Just a quick one though, I started going through some old mora knives to give them a bit of treatment and a couple are old, very blunt and a but rusty on the carbon. I look after my knives but found these two old clippers (or are they companiobs now?)id like to revive them but not sure on how to go about dealing with the rusty bits etc. Any advice welcome buddy 👍
@RobEvansWoodsman3 жыл бұрын
Rusty bits are badges of honour! I've been on the lookout for an old style companion (chequered handle), is that what you have?
@ChrisSurrey3 жыл бұрын
@@RobEvansWoodsman haha OK cool, that's decided that then. I'll just give them the Rob evans sharpening treatment. One has a black soft grip handle and the other is solid green plastic. I know the one you're talking about. A mate if mine had one years ago so ill ask him if he's still got it.
