This is a beautiful song. I have a suggestion. Ever heard of the song, "Don't Cry Alone;" it's part of a requiem project Robin and his son Robin John wrote together. It was in honor of the Titanic and the people who died in it. It came out in 2012 due to the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's sinking. There's a very nice video of the song on KZbin. I remember the whole Requiem streamed online and at the end of it there was an announcement that Robin had gone in a coma. He died about a month or two after that. Robin and his brothers are special souls who were imbued with a talent that was really meant to speak to the world I think.

The phrase "The days of wine and roses" was popularized by Oscar Wilde who Robin admired. The words apply to EVERYONE. Nobody can hear it and not consider their own life. He lost Mo. He was isolated from Barry. "Though two souls so far apart I pray it's not too late". Rob wanted contact with Barry in his grief. Barry wanted solitude for his grief. Rob was a deep thinker (the nut case as Mo once lovingly joked) and thus an amazing lyricist, perhaps the best of the brothers. Songs like this prove it. Barry said the train wreck brought out his pathos and IMO he suffered from PTSD the remainder of his life. He admitted it himself. Every word of this song has such deep meaning, not just for him but all of us. "Time and tide wait for no one". After Mo died he said he wanted to squeeze in everything he wanted to do like it was his last day on earth....and he did.

@@lauriebarnes2999 - We cry for him and, to be honest, cry for ourselves. Robin's introspection makes us think. As David English said, he was a kind man who knew the workings of the human heart. His joking and irreverence was camouflage and self preservation for a deep, sensitive soul. Though he was shy and seemed aloof to some, he observed everyone and everything and knew the human heart like a book. He put that into his lyrics and that's what reaches us all. Add to that his voice. He was a rare treasure. Maybe he WAS an angel, but a bit of a rascally one. Now stop crying or you'll short out your keyboard. 😉

Damn it Q, now I'm crying and Max is giving me a strange look. 😭 I agree, he definitely never properly dealt with/had help with the horrors he saw that night at Hither Green. Nobody should see that nevermind a 17 year old . Instead of celebrating Massachusetts being #1 he was pulling the dead from train carriages. How could that not affect him and his perspective on the fragility of life, from then on.

Re watched just now and chuckled a bit at "Every lining has a cloud", a twist on the old saying "Every cloud has a silver lining". The story of his life. He seemed a bit of a "Debbie Downer" at times. Maybe he was just a realist, something that many of us are afraid to be. He carried around his own little cloud. The hard luck kid in a lot of ways. Near drowning, hit by a van, train wrecks, avalanches. Geeze. Seeing Melissa @2:19 behind RJ, her grief was so palpable. She was always daddy's little girl.

Finally. I've been waiting for this song for a long time. I love it even though it's more of a sad song. It shows a mature person who draws his conclusions from defeats and strokes of fate. This text makes the listener become very thoughtful about life. Especially when you are no longer a young person, like myself. I am convinced that this song is very much based on the loss of loved ones and disappointments during his life. Robin's emotions can be felt throughout the song. Maybe he already knew that his health was getting worse. I love the musical arrangement.especially the bagpipes. A small hint at his love for his homeland?! All in all, a song for sentimental hours.
