🕯️ l watched Guiding Light with my granny in the 70's and 80's, then myself in the 90's til series end in 2009. Springfield Illinois. My diner the Lighthouse is dedicated to bygone daytime dramas. Remember we all can be Lighthouses if we allow our beacons to shine. And as Guiding Light told us , What we put into the light , comes back on its own ❤ Gracious greetings from coastal Mississippi

The record for longest running cast member was held by Charita Bauer. She played Bert Bauer from 1950 (when it was on the radio) until her death in 1985.

To the best Soap Opera of All Time!!! Every single person on the Soaps who are still acting should be very grateful because what happened to GL, could just as well happen to them. Even if you didn't work on GL, you owe part of your success considering that Agnes Nixon & Bill Bell were Irna Phillips Proteges.

I wonder why when they were looking for a possible new home why they didn't consider making Guiding Light a prime time weekly show. They would have had an increase in the money for production, more time for story development and they would have certainly retained their fans and made more fans. I think GL is the only soap to have a prime time movie as well. The Cradle Will Fall. Sort of a thriller 6 of the soaps characters were in the movie and the story actually began on GL.

If I hit the powerball, after I help people, I'm spoiling myself by spending some serious money to bring GL back in some way. And most definitely bringing Maureen back if I can convince Ellen Parker to do it. 😁 I don't care if I have to make it a sci-fi show and make her a mechanical heart. Sad I can't do that with Michael Zaslow. Ok, back to reality. 😭

If the soaps were reduced to half hour (incl commercials) and built custom sets (like how they do in UK) ATWT, GL, OLTL and AMC would still be with us.

Honestly, they should have done something like the 2002 GL tribute, send an invitation to all former GL cast members to be a part of the last tribute. Plenty of former GL actors were still in daytime at this point and probably would have been willing to stand on stage for two minutes, especially Jerry ver Dorn (Ross, now Clint on the OLTL reboot) who was the longest running cast member (1979- 2005) until TPTB foolishly bumped him to recurring, and I don't think ANYONE broke Jerry's record.

Who's at 3:21? The one and only Alan Spaulding- Chris Bernau. The beautiful Mary Kay Adams played India. The very best of Guiding Light was 1977 - 1984. The very worst was the firing of Michael Zaslow. Kinda deserved to be cancelled.

@@merricat3025 As sick as Michael was, after Guiding Light fired him One Life to Live found a place for him. They even wrote in his ALS diagnosis. Guiding Light lost me as a viewer after that tacky display.....

Don't blame CBS. Blame Proctor & Gamble. They made the call to cancel the show, not CBS. If P&G were smart,they should have made their own network and placed newer versions of GL and other soaps along with new shows. They could have advertised their own products on the network as well. Where is the negative aspect of this? Why won't you wake up, P&G? GL was my favorite show and I still miss it to this day. So sad to see it end. My favorite storyline wer the Jennifer Richards Trial, The Roger-Holly saga, The Nola-Kelly improvised scene, The 4 Musketeers, The Kelly-Morgan story, and the 80's Reva story lines. My favorite character and actors were Nola player by the amazing Lisa Brown, Holly, Roger, Philip, Rick, Mindy, and Beth, Annie, Reva, Josh, Vanessa, and India.

Guiding was starting to get bad around 1998. Should have been canceled then. The Reva clone story was the final nail in the coffin

i watchedas the world turns that was kind of my family soap opera, mom watched guiding light and eventhough i know soap operas can't stay on the air forever but how in the *************** did guiding light get criticized for so much but yet general hospital , young & restless, days of our lives ( who just killed off marlene for the upteenth time) get to stay on and their story lines are worse CRAP blake should've been on the never seen plane with ross and show her a little when jerry verdorn appeared on one life to lilive !!!!!!!! first time seeing this part i could've lived without the kim zimmer clips and how skinny /fat is she ? i see bert bauer and i'm in tears!!!!!
