_Enterprise_ bizarrely presented the defense of abandoned infants as requiring mind control for the heroes of Star Trek. I think the showrunners probably realized in short order how perverse and anti-Star Trek this episode's plot was, especially as this same season told us outright that the Xindi would join the Federation.
