Just a shout out for the tube workers that look after the homeless. They don't chase them out, but keep and eye on them. Here's something to know; if you give food, sanitary products or a warm coat, nlankets or what ever, they pass them on to those who they see night after night. So if you can't tell the real ones in need, just ask them to pass things on. Thank you to the staff of charing Cross Station. You know who you are.

In the USA, individuals living in cars due to partial homelessness result from a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income, stagnant wages, and income inequality drive this issue. Job loss, weak social support, medical expenses, evictions, and lack of affordable housing also contribute, while systemic problems and inadequate policies further perpetuate the phenomenon.
@D-law65
@D-law65 11 ай бұрын
it'll getting worse. Very soon, affordable housing will no longer be affordable. So anything anyone want to do, I will advise they do it now because the prices today will look like dips tomorrow. Until the Fed clamps down even further, I think we're going to see hysteria due to rampant inflation. You can't halfway rip the band-aid off.

The prices of homes are quite ridiculous and Mortgage prices has been skyrocketing on a roll(currently over 7%). Sometimes i wonder if to just invest my spare cash into the stock market and wait for a housing crash or just go ahead to buy a home anyways.

Considering the present situation, diversifying by shifting investments from real estate to financial markets or gold is recommended, despite potential future home price drops. Given prevailing mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, this move is prudent, particularly due to stricter mortgage regulations. Seeking advice from a knowledgeable independent financial advisor is advisable for those seeking guidance.

I've remained in touch with a financial analyst since the start of my business. Amid today's dynamic market, the key difficulty is pinpointing the right time to buy or sell when dealing with trending stocks - a seemingly simple task but challenging in reality. My portfolio has grown by more than $600k within just a year, and I've entrusted my advisor with the task of determining entry and exit points.

The fact that there is already an excessive amount of demand awaiting its absorption, despite how everyone is frightened and calling the crash, is another reason why it is less likely to occur that way. 2008 saw no one, at least not the broad public, making this forecast, as I'll explain below. The ownership rate was noted to have peaked in 2004 in the other comment. Having previously peaked in the second quarter of 2020, we are currently at the median level. Between 2008 and 2012, it dropped by 3%, and by the second quarter of 2020, it had dropped from 68 to 65.

Yep, facing homelessness now and facing so much judgement and scorn from people here in Oxford because they assume homeless people are unemployed addicts. I work full-time and pay rent etc. On time, don't cause a nuisance and make sure everywhere is clean. The housing situation here is madness and without family support to fall back in if you need you are screwed. It breaks my heart to hear stories of homelessness as it doesn't need to be like that. Everyone deserves a safe roof over their head especially if you're tired from work and just need somewhere safe to live.

Being homeless is not a choice, I’ve been there. Circumstances lead to the inevitable. When you’ve hit rock bottom, being homeless isn’t an issue. There are a lot of professional individuals, like myself, caught in the opinion that whatever happens, it’s up to me to sort it. Unfortunately many cannot sort it alone, and when I say alone I mean completely alone...no family, no friends and no support. No wonder those who live like this find it extremely hard to reintegrate to ‘normal’ society’ Not every homeless person is an addict

Choice may not be the right word but some do not take the opportunity given them... For example, whilst helping the homeless where I lived families came for them and pleaded with them (in tears) to come home, face to face and over the phone.... Not just holiday time but daily... Some have been placed in housing but still find themselves on the streets because that it all they know... So yes for some it's a choice for others it's their life
@MrWaterbugdesign

People tend to focus on the point of becoming homeless to say "no choice". But homelessness doesn't just fall out of the sky. It can sometimes be caused by years of poor choices. Living beyond a person's means instead of saving money for rough times. I see many homeless with thousands of dollars of tattoos. Maybe that wasn't a wise use of money. We don't teach living skills in school. We teach them a bunch of useless crap and send them out to figure out money management on their own.

A lot of financial professionals especially the one I work with Samuel Peter Descovich agree that one should not spend more than 30% of their gross income on rent. That means you need to make a minimum of about $80,000. Interesting considering the median income is $54,000.

Any money was better than none, because I knew that the moment I quit my job the chances of me getting another were slim to nil. I never told my manager I was sleeping rough. Now, I have a sweet, secure little family, nice little cottage, 2 acre garden. All paid off. Staying in work whatever happened was what made the difference - I'm quite sure of it.

This problem, like many others in the UK, is the consequence of what Thatcher did decades ago. She machined gunned the country, turning the UK into a nation of selfish citizens who don't want to pay their taxes. The UK started adopting extreme American individualism, and this is the tragic consequence.

That is driven by people in govt. jobs being connected to support EACH OTHERS agenda over solving the problem. In Canada we call them "poverty pimps". New arrivals get bumped to the top of the housing list, as one worker calls in a favour with another govt. employee. I stopped that several times in my moving business. New arrivals then work temp work or under the table, and "qualify" for a full ride, no audit from welfare for at least five years. One reason why I believe in a guaranteed annual income; we can do it with all this new tech. now. And get rid of the poverty pimps jobs and the pig farmers taking advantage.

I was homeless due not being able to find or afford a place to call home. I spoke to many people who said they preferred to live on the streets so they didn’t have to pay rent or bills and they could buy alcohol, drugs and some could beg as well as get social security. I now have a home I relocated to a rural area and found a place, so it is possible for some to improve their lives. But when organisations feed them and give them clothes they depend on that, so charity causes it’s own problems, I am not saying they do not do good work but some people need to help themselves not just rely on hand outs. Some cannot for one reason or another I understand that, they need the help. I am on an age pension (70) but hard to make ends meet but I do somehow, I look for the best deals at the supermarket and eat what I can afford (not always what I want) but heathy food, I never buy takeaway’s.

Notice virtually all the homeless are the traditional natural inhabitants (caucasians as they were the once majority in UK and Main land Europe). The refugees and illegal migrants that came (and continue to arrive) are FULLY funded by the government for shelter, food and even spending money and prioritised. Citizens that are not refugees are not only NOT fully funded, they will be behind in the priority list. Also the Government will not only NEVER fully fund, but also look for ways to not fund every citizen that should be (by making more stringent laws made to make people fall fall out or not meet the criteria) but the fund in real terms are also decreasing. Can you imagine countries of the Middle east, China or Russia treating their citizens less than foreigners that imposed themselves on the government?

I deal with homeless people in Australia and South Africa.The common denominator is mental illness causee by many different reasons and broken family. In South Africa, the shelter I volunteer with accepts users who have the welfare coupon. That's purchaseable, if they have money from the welfare payments, or donated by the locals. The SA homelessness is more complicated with both the White and Black needies. The great thing is the local community are more aware and supoorting in many different ways. It's taking only one year to have the local support as such. The whole economic and social strains are felt by the community and individuals. They are waking up to the deeper spiritual needs.

That's exactly what should be happening. All the government needs do is build a few facilities along the lines of Japanese capsule hotels. A bed, a small chair, a light to read by, and most importantly - an address. Thousands could be kept in reasonable comfort and safety in a relatively small area that way. For an extra fee there could be a laundrette, shower block, locker and key facility for bedding and toiletries in the same building - to help pay for the services of wardens. There should also be advice services available through the same facility to get people off drink and drugs, assist runaway children, vulnerable young women, getting the elderly into rest homes. Surely politicians can see there is a distinct 'advantage' in offering basic needs to the homeless - rather than having them laying all over the pavement for the tourists to see, half of them looking close to death already, their belongings littering the pavement, and no doubt thugs bullying them and destroying what little they have. When I worked in London, up until 30 years ago, there were homeless then, yes. But they were relatively far and few between. They certainly didn't occupy streets in 'rows' of tents or sleeping bags like this. You would be unfortunate indeed if you saw as many as '3' homeless people sleeping rough in the same street. It goes to show both how bad things have got and how very little anyone in office cares to do something to remedy the situation. How bad do things have to get before something is done - when the tourists stop showing up? Or when there are an unacceptably embarrassing number of foreign news and KZbin articles in circulation to 'shame' the British government?

But we've lost most of our "Rights" when those planes hit those two bldgs. in another country. Our Security Act passed in four days. Parliament usually can't pass anything in four YEARS. We're not headed in any country in the direction of freedom to live, freedom to chose, or freedom to set up a roof over your head.

I parked in long haul lots or empty warehouse and industrial area just far enough from transit or the bs. unfortunately in the USA you're likely to be rousted a lot by cops, as the countries loitering laws and trespass laws go back to the Puritan days, where transient meant criminal. then during Covid the US BLM banned "distance" camping; I thought expanding it would be a good Covid idea\!!

FNQ's nice and warm, which is the absolute opposite to most of the UK. Even on the ("warmer") South Coast it gets very cold over winter (which is realistically from end October to end March from a temperature viewpoint). Further north, and autumn / winter / spring is cold, especially overnight. Now, add in the cost of living, especially the ballooning energy costs, and Winter 2023-4 is going to be a very bad experience for many, who are already having to choose between food and heating. Even the "reasonably" well off with decent employment are feeling the pinch, sometimes very badly ( "Middle Class" families NEEDING to use Food Banks to get by); The Middle East "problems" may lead to further fuel crises (oil and LNG), right at the start of the Northern Hemisphere colder months. The UK / EU is heading for very hard times indeed.

Yes I get that , but their own families don’t want to help or support them , there is a moral decline in British culture. When problems occur they make a choice to turn to drugs and alcohol. Most of the ppl on the streets are violent thieves. I get some have slip the net but I see beggars with dogs. Like if you claim you are poor how do you justify keeping pets. They make a choice. Why do their parents kick their kids out at 18, and why do their children abandon their parents in old ppls homes. Their is no empathy towards their own flesh and blood. The culture is to blame. The family members don’t care about each other just use and exploit each other. Like women choose their boyfriends over their own kids , often the new boyfriend will abuse the kids. It’s disgusting how British culture has deteriorated. Rather than blame immigrants blame the government and blame the culture.

honestly, them keeping the waiting lists long, making it difficult to get appointments etc. , its basically to lower the life expectancy of people, theyve done that alongside reducing bin collections, releasing raw sewage so people get sick quicker, reducing the population they will find room to accommodate a target 60 million people, its estimated the population has reached over 70 million and the country cant manage it so using strategies to kill people off is key, i mean i took a 73 year old to the hospital and they literally commenced end of life advice rather than discuss operating on them, im hoping an exodus of people leaving the UK will happen and calm things down, not sure ill go though lol.

One of the problems with homelessness is that in order to get into private rented accommodation you need to have someone professional giving you an endorsement and they need to have known you for 5 years. This would usually be a GP. Once you are homeless and have no address you can't be registered with a GP practice or be associated with any other professional person . This problem needs to be addressed.

Despite having probably an entire weeks worth of food beside him, it was clear it's not what he was after. He wanted money for something else, most likely drugs. Drug addiction is the only thing which will force an individual to put themselves in such degrading position, sitting on the ground in public.

How do you know it wasn't for a tent or sleeping bag or toiletries? These things people don't buy you it's always food which can build up. It may have been for drugs but you try walking the streets aimless with no home to return to, let's see you not want to escape the misery of it. Drink/drugs can give you that escape if only for a little while. I see so many judgemental people like you. I dare you to try it for one day and one night, just walk around the city center with no money and don't go home for one night, no phone no nothing. But you won't you'll just sit there in your nice warm home judging people without getting an understanding of why they do what they do.

I did write article about that topic.I found myself homeless (not my doing) and as university graduate and being resourceful, I manage to find a job,find a flat (not council or housing) and I can tell You with 100% certainty, that homeless crisis is the reason (that mite be unpopular statement) of LIFE CHOICES. I explain: UK government has DUTY to house ((I was on a street for 3 hours) ,but here a catch. One declaring Her or Himself homless HAS TO BY LAW give personal details, someone wanted by police WONT DO THAT. Another issue is alcohol and drug use,not many of homelessness accommodations allow drinking alcohol and NONE allows drug use. It's the choice they made,either by not giving details or choosing drugs. Been there,seen it . Naturally its elaborate combination of personal circumstances and addictions, but ANY person that You see begging on a street,or sleeping rough could get roof over head in matter of hours,not days, hours.

As a soon-to-be graduate, embarking on a teaching career, the only way I can save enough money to buy a house in the next 10-20 years is by living in the tent from now! Starting at £20K-23K in the Southeast East of England with a projected annual salary to be around £ 45K after 15 years of work (people hated it when the public sector tried to ask for a pay raise) , I don't hope to see much light at the end of the tunnel. After paying student loans, paying rent, transportation and bills, I would have almost nothing left at the end of the month. I hope that they will allow people in a situation like mine to live in a tent to save money; Of course, I understand that if this gets trendy, the landlords will get upset.

The salaries are always rising each year too (Just find a good school and duck around the busybodies/back seat drivers always trying to get you to do too much work. Teach in a way that's meaningful and worthwhile to you). The pensions quite good too and provided you live fairly modestly and don't be too snobby about where you live -you'll be better off than most of your peers. Also lying about the conditions. Most people down on their luck seem to have extraordinarily poor luck, they get diagnosed with cancer then their landlord evicts them for no reason, their cat died, their dad's dying or abusive, etc. The litany of woes. I know a few people who keep skirting homelessness. They don't learn from their mistakes. One guy got a bedsit, got a job, was doing OK but then stopped paying his car insurance and got stopped by police, car impounded. Helped him, paid for his insurance. Few months later he had no insurance again because the direct debit failed and he didn't sort it out. Helped him again, next thing I heard he was homeless because his landlord had evicted him "for no reason" and then his car was impounded again. He's been given another bedsit, but now he's talking about giving it up to go live with his "girlfriend" who he had known for about a month. Self inflicted chaos constantly, no interest in paying his bills etc. He always has excuses why things got so bad, why it wasn't his fault, "the bank" stopped the direct debit even though he had the money, the insurance company wouldn't listen and cancelled the policy, the police stopped him because he was giving a lift to someone who turned out to be a crook, etc. Just pure fantasy. Called him out on it, shifty looks but maintained that he wasn't lying about any of it. Said he had to have a car because of work shifts but now he doesn't have one his shift has changed to normal hours but he previously said his employer wouldn't let him do that. Lie after lie.

If you are an illegal immigrant, came to the UK by boat, you get five star hotel rooms and food etc no security checks, instant five star help! If you are British, unemployed, homeless, or employed but not able to earn enough to rent, you live on the streets which is difficult and cold in wet weather and winter, Some beg for food, some get charities help and support, but no British people get free five star accomodation, food clothing no questions asked! WHY IS THIS SO DIFFERENT FOR BRITS. As for working Brits in a cost of living crisis, their earnings pay for illegal immigrants to get 5 star hotel accomodation for life possibly, so the numbers will keep rising, the working Brits will keep struggling to give these people a free life!

i guess that is all you can do. funny, after so many centuries of history, it all came to nothing. So many forgot the debt they owe to their heritage. people are really asleep, they are twisting that mass of small shopkeepers into soup, and would you believe, they are going along with it like sheep to the slaughter....

There are some homeless in the city I currently live and they’re always asking for coins. Before I always give them coins. But somebody told me to stop giving coins as they will use that money for their vices like cigarettes, alcohol, or who knows maybe drugs as well. He said you’re not helping them if you give money, instead you’re funding their addiction or vices. Later on tried to give food instead. Some are still thankful but some demands coins.

I'm panhandled every time in Calgary often by guys I WORKED with in const. years ago; I never forget a face. Calgary is more aggressive than LA; had two workmates shived and died in Alberta. And it's going to get worse with the loss of so many temporary manuf. jobs.

Ok but what is not spoken of at all is the Tories shifting the financial parameters for private landlords whereby yhey have no tax relief on buy to let mortgages. This caused small investors to sell up because they are being left making no profit. Families are being left with no rental accommodation

The cost of buying a house is beyond most working people, my children will probably never own their own home, only inherit mine.

0:17 referred to as rough sleepers and according to unofficial estimates there are over three hundred 0:22 thousand people in this category 0:25 this is double the number five years ago 0:28 these individuals are not refugees or immigrants from Africa or Asia 0:34 they are citizens of the United Kingdom itself homeless people here are not just adults or middle-aged men 0:41 recently there's been a significant increase in the proportion of women and 0:46 those aged between 16 and 24. 0:49 they are young strong and generally in good physical condition Finally, some non-academic research is allowed to become publically known. The power-distance gap is very obvious, between the different social classes. In my anthropological research into the people of 'civilized' Australia, my lower class status enabled much better understanding of the effects of Complex PTSD. Post-modern living is creating so many inadequate adults. Previously, humans had natural seasonal and circadian body rhythms. Forcing modern living onto the young and new citizens, via our traditional definitions of study, work and leisure, does not work. Human biology is bullied by factory electricity and factory chemicals; processed lighting, air, food, drinks, vaccines, and sleep cycle disturbances. In my opinion, this calamity will accelerate. Hitler used democratic amphetamines to extend white Christianity (WW2). Putin imposes his version of Christianity now. Geriatric boomers like myself are hoping that the world is not passively waiting. The gerontocracy, creating selfish self-centered private housing gluts, must recognize that there is more to living than our home lives.

The issue of homelessness is also something to do with the LAW and Bureaucracy of Homelessness officers. Most of them work with Estate agents or Landlords and discourage people from Getting on to the housing Ladder and give it to people whom they know. When served with section 21 most of the councils try to talk to the agent in order to extend the procedure and get them housed. AGENT also benefiting from People staying more by getting their commission from the landlord. another reason for homelessness is People who SHOW millions in their home country to get a STUDENT AND VISIT VISA come here and Claim asylum. Once their asylum granted they get housing while working BRITISH TAX payers don't.

I was homeless before and it was challenging but I certainly had more money and i sometimes think I was happier than I am now ever since I moved into the apartment im so unhappy and I never smile and suddenly feel trapped like a prison room especially since they moved me in a smaller room without running water in my bathroom no sink or tub or shower and its just like being homeless but i now have to give them my whole check and I am so very very unhappy here and I miss my old life

Crazy huh, in some cases the housing quality or area is not worth paying to being housed there. I have experienced what u are saying. Homelessness can be preferable to some of the awful apartments or bad areas they expect people to live at if u are too poor.
