Glad somebody made a video on this. It's a shame roblox doesnt care about fixing the problem (that they made) where semi transparent stuff doesn't render behind semi transparent glass. Those distortions could be used for so many cool things, at least we can make it so everybody sees the glass

Its an intended feature as computing overlapping transparency is very expensive and can almost be like rending the same frame again for each overlap although there is another form of transparency but its only supports either visible and not visible rather than going between 0 to 1

This would be super cool for something like a halo game, like when you get a camoflauge effect, you may be able to create a script of when an item is used, the body meshes do this

Glad more people are noticing this as I've been using it for a long time. There is also a way to get rid of the sun reflection on it if you don't want it or want to use glass for VFX. Just set brightness to 0 in lighting and turn up the ambient instead. You can still add a SunRays instance and tweak with its properties to make a false sun that looks identical. Also glass ignores Depth of Field blur if the part itself is close enough.

@@simonsilvio make sure u add a highlight inside the glass, make sure the transparency is high, try switching lighting technology in Lighting to future or shadowmap. also try setting studio quality setting to 21

I did some testing, and knowing a good amount in optical physics, I think it is safe to assume that when the transparency is greater than one, it is treated as an index of refraction for that material, which is basically a unit less measurement that describes the intensity at which light refracts when transferring through mediums. For example, an index of refraction of 1.33 can replicate looking through ball of water, while an index of refraction of 1.52 can replicate looking through a glass ball. Edit: the glass exhibits properties of an index of refraction less than 1 when transparency is less than one, however, that also affects the opacity of the part, making it harder to use well.

wait.... with the right use of this you can make your game really cool and unique i can make it where maybe a troll obby and one part uses this and make it really hard because of the sight or in a game like slap battles, they have a kinda confused ability basically, they could use this when someone uses the ability on you maybe in a jigsaw game you use this and make it kind of gray to make it look like the other person is being recorded on a screen or watched but they really are just across from each other glass really does have amazing possibilities

I've actually made a shockwave effect with this before by making the transparency 0 by the time it gets to its end goal position. I wish Roblox added more shader effects apart from glass or added some sort of shader editor.

The transparency changes the density and hence affects the refractive index. Found this on Elite Engineering but it limits transparency to 0.8.

I used this like a year ago or so to create game impact effect . I remember the problem I encountered was that it reflect sunlight which makes it look weird and not seamless (which I wanted cause this is for combat effect). If you encounter this, you can disable the sun and increase the workspace's brightness instead to replace the sun light( Sorry i have not worked on studio for a long time I forgot what the actual properties' name are

Oh yeah, this also means that your game can't use the sun light etc, you gotta find a way to produce day and night and some lighting effects
