@gerardcote8391 back then, movie theaters still only had a few screens. Some showed two different movies on the same screen. When I went to see this most people would leave the theater when the movie was over but if you wanted to see it again, you just stayed in your seat. Workers would clean the theater around you and leave to let the next group in.

Close the unedited was the directors cut but the MPAA threatened to give it a rated X, so they had to cut it down, and the Theatrical Release was Rated R.

In addition to the practical effects, another thing that lends believability to this film is the extensive on-location filming. The abandoned steel mill, gas station, drug factory, OCP HQ exterior (Dallas City Hall + matte painting), OCP meeting room (Renaissance Tower skyscraper in Dallas), parking garage etc. are all real locations instead of studio sets. You don't see as much of that in today's films.
@Whoo_BoyКүн бұрын
I saw this in theaters a few times in 1987. I realized years later that this was the first movie that I can recall, that used a DVD before they were a thing. The scene when Robocop's creator (Bob Morton) was killed in his house. The hitman, Clarence Boddicker played the DVD from Dick Jones.

I love this classic. For as graphic and funny as it is in parts it really drives home a message of when you combined man and machine. Lewis (Nancy Allen) did a great job of seeing the man in the machine. Murphy had a family (a wife and child). :( My favorite part is the end where you see Murphy over the programming..."I am not arresting you anymore."

The remake is nowhere near the originals caliber but I did like the originals suit in the remake it was cool. Awesome show Snoopers keep up the wonderful work 👍 👏 😀

42:47 In this explosion, Kurtwood Smith and Ray Wise actually got a little bit hurt. The director decided to pay all the actors stunt pay for that scene because they were so close to the explosions. Forget pushing boundaries on safety a little, this scene was downright dangerous.

To be fair, the original I saw on rented VHS when I was 10 in 89 was pretty violent. The ED-209 spraying Kenny all over the board room scene made me literally sick to my stomach the rest of the night. They added a few shots in the expanded edition but it was still brutal. Great movie, I wish they would re-master the stop motion but overall it's ageless. The Ford Taurus shown were brand new and that look for a sedan was totally fresh back then so it added to the futurism.

Great reaction! It's a great movie! Robocop is my favorite childhood hero. And I also like the cool robot ED-209! I've always been amused by the moment when the ED-209 robot shoots itself in the arm, and then it has a short circuit from pain and shakes violently for a few seconds 38:07. And also the final scene with this robot at the end 46:39. Poor robot 🤖

Happy New Year. I was three years old when this movie was released. The original script for RoboCop was influenced by Judge Dredd. Early drafts featured a law enforcement character similar to Judge Dredd, combining policing and judicial powers in a dystopian future. However, the film's creators didn't have the rights to Judge Dredd, so the story evolved into something unique. The final version of RoboCop focused more on the personal journey of Alex Murphy, blending themes of identity, humanity, and corporate corruption, which distinguished it from Judge Dredd and gave the character his own identity. Paul McCrane also played Montgomery MacNeill in Fame(1980).

Murphy's death was more graphic in the Criterion Collection version but there's not many differences between the unrated and theatrical, a topless police officer in a locker room briefly seen and that's about it. In the words of Paul Verhoeven "Jesus was sacrificed, came back, and got back at those who mocked and executed him. Jesus even said, in a time of war, sell your cloak and buy a sword. RoboCop uses a gun rather than a sword, so he's an American Jesus. He also walks on water. With RoboCop, I was making an American Jesus." So basically... RoboCop is a Christmas movie.

Yeah he was essentially dead. But they had to keep a small piece of his brain alive to work the cyborg so all that is left of Murphy is a tiny bit of his brain, and his face. The brain that was left is what caused him to make decisions and also small pieces of his memory like the gun trick and vague memories. He is still mostly machine so he cannot have the feelings and humanity Murphy had but he is still allowed to make wise and kind decisions and rebel against his program to a certain extent...still with limits.
