I'm with you Nancy, as much heart & sould the original movie had non of the others could replicate it, either by not trying or thinking they had a better idea of what Robocop was supposed to be. Verhoeven said they took it too seriously, maybe because the version that finally made it to cinemas, before the director's cut, had much of the exaggerated violence toned down and instead of seeing how absurd it was they thought it was more serious than it actually was intended to be.
