Proof that even the most unusual designs can be devastatingly effective under the right driver. Pussycat was never designed to be a robot that was easy to get its weapon where it needed to go, yet it took out some huge names, often being used like some sort of bludgeoning device rather than a conventional spinner. The loss of almost all of its team members was one of the biggest losses to the Robot Combat world

I remember going to a local library where Alan Gribble actually brought Pussycat for a display and showed off the featherweights. He actually let me drive Kitty (the featherweight version of the main machine) most likely because I was the only kid over the age of about 7 who showed up. He showed me how to drive it and how it worked, was great fun. One of my fondest memories.

In the beginning, quite a few robots had cutting discs as a weapon, but they were never really affective and people simply moved on to big heavy flywheels. But pussycat kept their spinning blade, improved it and took out some very dangerous competitors with it. It is not a co-incidence that it beat hypno disc and razer in the a near identical manner. Those original Pussycat boys meant business. The weapon was quite literally like a cats claws tearing into you. Very underrated robot imho. Look at how bad it chopped razer up in that series 4 fight. Admittedly razer couldnt move, but that was probably the most damage ive ever seen done to razer in UK Robot wars (not sure about overseas).

At first I thought the win against Cassius 2 was lame, then when they showed the slo-mo I realized Pussycat pulled off a bit of brilliant strategy by exploiting the charge and keeping track of the arena and turning away at the last second for Cassius to end up in the pit. It was the robot version of "rope a dope". It would be like complaining about Muhammad Ali sitting there against the ropes getting beaten up for 10 rounds, then beating a tired opponent. I definitely think Pussycat is one of the best robots in robot wars to never win the title. It made 3 semifinals and a grand final. Runner up in the 4th series beating Hypno-Disc who was the most fear robot at the time. It beat the World Champion Razer twice. It won all side competitions Tag Team Terror, Annihilator and All Stars. It only lost by judges decisions and was never immobilised. It also won the American Robot wars War of Independence. Need I say more.
@robbie51813 жыл бұрын
I think they should have beaten chaos 2 on judges decision in the final. I think there was a 'house favourite' mentality. The draws were deliberatley done to 'make' the supposedly good robots not get worn before finals. Thays why pussycat, diotor and a few others were so good. They won so unexpectedly against big players they had setup to win in each series. Razer and chaos 2 were literally given special treatment (they are awesome, but if you find sources on show structure, you will see)

What I found slightly sobering about the Robot Wars reboot was the obvious decline of originality amongst the British public. Despite nearly two decades advancement in technology, there was none of the creativity in design. Razer, Chaos 2, Hypnodisk, Pussycat, Stinger, Behemoth, Panic Attack, Dominator, Wheely Big Cheese.. all totally original and different approaches within the rules. It was a golden age of British garden shed engineering!

Look at the babying of Razer by the house robots. Instead of laying into him like they would any other incapacitated bot, they refuse to fire their weapons. Shunt attempts to unstick him from wall (or prevent Pussycat from inflicting further damage), and when he’s obviously knocked out Dead Metal takes him straight to the pit. No sawblade, no drop zone, no floor flipper or flames. Straight to the pit to prevent any more damage. Talk about favoritism.

It depends on the competition - some ban robots without an "active weapon", but some don't. There was a really strong example of this in early Battlebots, Vlad the Impaler/Vladiator, which dominated the first few series.
