Man I just gotta say that I LOVED this OST when I was a kid playing it on the GBA. I'd go and hang out in the outmode area and the upper city areas so that I could just chill and listen to the music. Only recently was I watching a streamer and his intermission music reminded me of the music in this game and it's been a huge nostalgia trip for me. Thank you for crafting this and for reuploading it!

Truly a hidden gem of GBA titles. Something about this soundtrack makes it so damn atmospheric, which fits the theme of a futuristic dystopian city.

A bit random, I guess, but this brings back memories of driving my family around Italy in 2005. While I was dueling with the chaos of Italian motorway traffic in a rental van, my kids were happily occupied in the back of the van with their Nintendo DSes playing 'Robots'. I remember the sound of this soundtrack well. Thanks very much for the sounds here. Not only is it enjoyable to listen to, it brings back memories of a special time.

This soundtrack is a masterpiece and I know every song by heart. From the organs on Train Station, to the classy vibe of the Upper City, the funky groove of Bigweld Upper, the dark bass and atmospheric chords of the Outmode Area, the epic melody of Jack Hammer's, the slightly spooky Party theme, the screaming sirens on the boss theme, the keyboard work on the Bigweld's Workshop theme that perfectly symbolizes the despair of a broken man, the shiny Bigweld Industries theme that contrasts wonderfully with the Workshop theme, and the grim, murky Chop Shop theme that fits perfectly with the literal robot death factory you're in... it's just amazing. I have to thank you, Mr. Stocker, for doing my childhood such a service by composing this.

Thank you for the memories, Ian. To find out you did the Bionicle DS soundtrack AND this, aka two of the greatest game soundtracks I've ever heard, AND put both of them on YT in great quality for us to listen to, yeah, that's the coolest thing ever. To show you what impact your music had on me, I've had the Madame Gasket tune in my head occasionally for years now, and your Bionicle soundtrack probably included my first experience with spacy drum 'n bass ish stuff and other electronic music, which partially subconcsiously influences my own music writing to this day. Every time I mess around with a synth I just seem to end up wanting something like this. It's great to finally find the name behind that influence. You defined futuristic and spacy music for me, and that influence will always stay with me no matter what I personally write. Thank you.

This game is what got me to appreciate video game music as a whole. I remember getting it when I was just 5 and loving what I heard even if I did suck at the game. This OST is what made me enjoy what I played. Everyone always looks at the graphics or the gameplay, but I always feel that when looking at a game, the music should be included in as a factor because it's nothing to slouch on. Music is what creates the atmosphere for games and this soundtrack certainly embraces how I feel the world of Robots should be. Awesome job Ian!

Never seen the movie or played the game as a kid, but I definitely want to now. Heck, I’m planning on getting the game for both GBA and DS real soon, for a few reasons. Firstly, licensed games get way too much hate in the modern day, and that’s really disrespectful to the people who worked on it, which brings me to my next point, that being video game music deserves more love, especially because, just by listening to this, I can not only tell you put a lot of passion and effort into this soundtrack, but I can clearly tell you had a lot of fun doing it, as well! 😉👍🏻 Licensed games have as much hard work put into them than big name games. With big name games, a franchise can pump,out as many games as possible, whereas by contrast, licensed games based on a movie or cartoon don’t come out that often, but when they do, they’re frequently pushed to the wayside for that reason m that reason being so many people are too scared to branch out and give new things a try. That stereotype of licensed games being seen as “awful” is something I don’t agree with, because whenever one does come out bad, it’s almost always due to budget issues or harsh development cycles. Back to my original point, I absolutely love this soundtrack, and it’s one of the main reasons I will be getting this GBA and DS versions of the game hopefully very soon.
@IanStocker2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your comment! There are definitely lots of licensed games that have love and care put into them. The Griptonite team always took these titles very seriously, no matter the IP, and I did my best to do the same. I'm not going to deny that licensed games have a bad rap though, and in a lot of cases it's warranted--not for lack of effort on the devs' part, but due to factors like short dev times, inflexible release schedule (must come out two weeks before the film no matter what), and inconvenient demands from the license holder (sometimes late into development). Griptonite's leadership got really skilled at navigating these challenges during my time with them.
@SirBopALot2 жыл бұрын
@@IanStocker You are absolutely welcome, man! As a research scientist, and as a person who loves to give anything a chance, as opposed to just agreeing it’s the general consensus, and just repeat what everyone else says, I’m quite familiar with the aforementioned rushed development cycle, deadline, and in some cases, low budget issues that are very common with licensed games. An example of this is SpongeBob SquarePants Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, which turned out to be a really bad game due to rushed development, as well as low budget and I also believe not having enough resources, which is another common problem most games of that caliber tend to face, from my understanding. I’m all about appreciating games that are seen as bad or obscure back then, but are seen as good now. Battle for Bikini Bottom, another SpongeBob game, is a prime example of this, as it was obscure at the time, but quickly developed a massive underground following as time progressed, which is why it got a remake, for instance. But, like I said earlier, loved the soundtrack, man. Really fantastic job.

+Ian Stocker I saw another guy asked for it, in the comments below. I would totally like a lossless (wave/flac) download. :) Because KZbin AAC 192kbits encode + converter encode to 192kbits sounds ok but not so nice, like lossless does. And the game is old and not thaaaaat popular, so i dont think copyright will be a problem. I mean, the clear internet is full with gba/nds roms for the entire game, and im sure that the publisher and devs dont really care about that... because it dont makes a financial loss. So pls think about a lossless download (maybe a link in the comments to mediafire, mega, dropbox or something?). If you dont want to make the lossless files public i would either be very thankful for a personal message with the lossless files) :)
@IanStocker8 жыл бұрын
No lossless files exist (yet)... These are from MP3's I had when I originally wrote the score. So I would need to do another WAV render and some mastering on the songs first. If I get around to this, I will definitely post to my channel about it. Thanks for your support btw!

One of my all time favorite game soundtracks. I have been searching for this for a very long time. Upper City and the Gallery songs are probably some of my favorite. What software did you use to compose this? Do you have any music-making tips? (I am a reason 6 user) Mitch
@IanStocker9 жыл бұрын
MitchRulzWorld Thanks! Upper City is probably my favorite. It was somewhat inspired by the Walk in the Woods song from the first Halo game. All these songs were made in Impulse Tracker, which had to be run in a DOS emulator to work in Windows XP! As for tips, I could write several blog posts, but to condense it down: what has worked best for me is to write a lot of quick sketches, a few bars each, then come back to them after a day or two and develop the ones that seem the most promising.

Bill Zypher to make a high quality rips of the game
wow.. this is.. INSANE.. I totally forgot about this game (mostly because I was very young at the time and the tutorial boss kicked my arse and I couldn't beat it) This music is absolutely stunning though. I'm totally floored. I hope one day the original .mod files are released because these have to be some of the best tracks I have heard on GBA. With only 2 sample channels available, I must say that the synth work takes the cake most impressive bit! It's completely indistinguishable from stuff that would usually be sampled.

Full disclosure-- we had a sound driver that did software mixing to play the tracker files (S3M format actually) using the hardware sample channels of the GBA. On NDS, we used the hardware sample channels because they didn't use any CPU.

WOW, thanks for the insight! (I also assume you can't release the .s3m files for various reasons as per comments upon other videos, however I wish there was a download for the soundtrack in .wav or w/e as youtube is a bit clunky for soundtracks)

0:49 Sounds kind of like Megalovania at first in a Major key.

It's got such a cool lofi gameboy crunch, they should make a guitar pedal that emulates gba compression

The insane 80s vibe had to be completely intentional.

My roots. It takes a lot of intention for me to not end up with an 80's or 90's sound. But I definitely went the extra mile on this one to match the style the producer wanted

High Speed Transit gives me MAJOR Gunstar Heroes vibes. You did some stellar-ass work, dude. It's work worth making covers of.
