It is well known that whenever Zeppelin played Los Angeles, they brought their A game. June 23rd 1977 is no exception. Although the show from June 21st, recorded as this one was by the legendary Mike Millard, is widely considered the best of the 77 tour, this version of Ten Years Gone is by far the best live recording of it ever. The atmosphere is loose, as evident by Plant and Bonzo's goofing around at the beginning. During the show, Keith Moon even made an appearance. The gem of this recording though is Jimmy. Page's playing is perfect and his extended solos are blistering and precise. My favorite Zeppelin song of all time!!! Enjoy!

Imagine if Jimmy didnt have a nasty addiction around this time, this would probably be the best tour by any band of all time

Mr. Krabs possibly. If this is what he was capable of, imagine if he sounded like this every night.

Say what you will about the latter tours, Jimmy is on fire here. Bonham and Jones are pretty much out of the question anyway, and Plant also definitely brings it. Great recording.

of the post 75 led Zep live, this is one of the greats - page in better form, Bonham and Jones, need I say more, and Plant is as good as he'd ever been live.

In my humble opinion, the absolute most epic song of the entire 1977 tour!! Sure does bring a journey back to your childhood bedroom ( 1983) for a sixteen-year-old discovering the post led Zeppelin era ) and a tear to your eye.

This show and ‘77 tour were amazing! They were absolutely on a roll. When I listen to this, I just close my eyes and I’m there. It’s very sad how things ended so abruptly with the death of RP’s son in July. Devastating for him. ❤️LZ

Some really magic moments with Page and Bonham at the end of this song. I think the live chemistry between the 2 was best on the '77 North American tour.

The absolutely, most epic, and most poignant and passionate song of Led ZePPelin, performed live!!!!!!! Takes me back to my childhood bedroom. I miss my dear brother Frankie!! The poor gay fellow died of AIDS in 1996 . The poor kid (slayer of both genders) was our familie's successful- hero . .Little did we know he would be gone , so fastly in the years to come 😔😔😔😔😔 ---decades , now gone . The most popular kid of our little blue class class town.. Just asks the females I miss you so very dearly.. My dear brother -- hero of our very small family , ****F R AN K I E***

I came to conclusion this is the best version live, even better than 21/6/77. Only thing is Jonesy could be up in the mix a bit more. I'm sure I can fix that myself though.

+BetrayedColt I see your question about the 3 neck. I don't know the answer but I can speculate. I know he goes between the 12 string and 6 string parts of the 3 neck (never the uppermost mandolin as far as I can tell). he always uses the 12 string for the part where it's just the guitar like the intro. I don't know much else. my speculation is he needed something with good bass (maybe 12 string) to try and get a full sound behind the guitar for that acapella part. then 6 string for standard acoustic during the rest of the song. he likely speaks about it somewhere in an interview.

Why couldn't they do this song without the 3-neck for Jonesy? He could just play acoustic and use bass pedals right.
@F1god04
@F1god04 8 жыл бұрын
He uses the pedals, but this has a 6, 12 string acoustic, plus a mandolin.
