The point about polish pilots was that they were seasoned veterans who were so highly motivated that they went throuht half of the world to join RAF in fight aganist Germans. They were elite of polish armed forces. Most of them already fought in Poland and France. On the other side Brits lost most of their experienced pilots in France and were replacing them by very poorly trained newbies (no time for proper training). RAF higher ups did not understood how badly owerwhelmed Poles were in 39 (Germans had way better planes and they had many times numbers of experienced pilots). They (Brits) thought Polish pilots were simply poor soldiers. It took some time for UK commanders to start trust them. And when they did - Poles started to shine in some parts thanks to weak british "competition" .

13:48 ah, Kościuszko is my personal hero, this guy was ahead of his times, he fled to America after being heartbroken young guy just to fight in their independence war, he designed West Point stronghold, was big supporter of emancipation of African Americans and freedom for all citizens. One anecdote sums him up perfectly: George Washington gifted him a pistol and he gifted it to some Indian chief with a disclaimer that if whenever US government try to threaten him he should use it. After being an American war hero he came back to Poland to fight for Poland's independence, but Polish upraising failed which broke him.

Initially the Royal Airforce was very mistrustful towards the Poles, looking down on them etc. The language barrier definitely played a role too. RAF was reluctant to even allow them into the battle. Bloody foreigners-battle of Britain is a cool documentary about it!

Nieufność RAF-u była w pełni uzasadniona, biorąc pod uwagę, że ich wiedza opierała się mocno na wojennej propagandzie. Zarówno Niemcy jak i allianci starali się zawsze umniejszyć Polski opór i pokazać Polskę jaką słabą. Nasi piloci dodatkowo nie znali brytyjskiego sprzętu i taktyki a nieznajomość angielskiego utrudniała komunikację

But that's just a tip of the iceberg - the building stands on an artificial island built on a Natura 2000 protected terrain. In 2020 the investors were arrested, the building permit was allegedly issued in violation of the law, there are multiple court cases on all levels of Polish judicial system concerning the investors and the validity of the permit. Apparently they opened up this May for some events.

Hussars were elite warriors, cavalery (heavy cavalery actually) with looks and tactics that noone else in the world uses :) The myth is that they have wings attatched to horse saddle or horseman back to frighten enemy. The fact is: they were defenetly used in parades, but if they were used in battles - dispute is ongoing :) There are some historical texts that says hussars DID use wings in battle, but on the other hand they were inconvinient. The mighty warrior ;) about that germany meme - i think that it is that germany attacked Poland simply because it was standing in the way. Nazi though that we fail in 12 days. We lasted 6 years :>

I know a couple, he's English, she'sPolish, they have two children and live in England and the girls' first language is of course, english (school), but they speak polish very well, and the guy understands everything in Polish, but his speech is average,however i also know one englishman who lives in Poland and speaks fluent,amanzingly,(he has lived in Polska for 20 years)of course his accent is a little bit hmmm kind of sweet? but the grammatical correctness is shocking,first class.... i admire people who have learned polish so well, for me its shocking

the hatred between poland and russia in medieval time and later is not very true. Polish aristocracy /noble men wanted to have low tax and freedom, didn't care to much from which country is their king, paysants as well king was like saint, king was kinfg and there was similar situation in Russia. Polish had many kings from abroad, Russians had Catherine 2 the Great, she was Prussian / german. Both sides they unleashed propaganda and hatred just few years after every war and that's it. The fact than polish king wasn't longer russian tsar, or Russian tsar wasn't longer Polish king (e.g. Aleksander I ) is just coincidence / "blind chance" and decision of nobles. Some russian nobels had nothing against that and some polish nobels cooperated with russian tsars without any problems. .

"Tankies" refers to Russians. Or rather, the particular kind of Russians: "Russia is a great empire, Russia always only protects itself, USSR was great, the Soviets liberated Poland so Poland is ungrateful for hating them, Poland hates Russia only because they're russophobes and do what America is telling them...actually everyone who hates Russia is an American puppet". You know, the classics. The term comes probably from the Russian tendency to glorify war and having tanks as monuments in the city centers.

It is used more often to refer to Russia's sympathizers in other countries, rather than Russians themselves. The term, as far as I can remember, was created after the Soviets brutally suppressed Hungarian uprising with their army (including tanks). In the socialist circles in the west it caused a schism. Some were rightfully appalled by the whole thing. Others said that it's okay, as long as it's the Soviets doing it. The latter became known as tankies, and the term became synonymous with apologists of Russia.
