I'm just starting to photograph my son and daughter's games..........found this very helpful - thanks!

I’ve always enjoyed your vlog videos when you do pro sports. Gives some neat insight behind the scenes where many of us do not go. Love this video even more as it speaks to so many of us who shoot youth sports. Would definitely love to see more videos like this. Couple of questions: 1) curious why f5.6 for the 70-200? 2) besides monopod, cameras, and lenses what types of accessories do you find helpful to being on a sports shoot? Anything besides the obvious things like batteries, card reader, etc?
@sirbeltran042 жыл бұрын
If im not mistaken, using f5.6 keeps more of the players in focus compared to f2.8

was hoping to see some backend/software tips. honestly think this is where most youth sport photogs stuggle/fail, be cool to see a follow-up video on media managment & delivery. i know i'm always looking to improve things in this regard, even if it's the smallest of details, every bit helps when taking on youth sports and making the juice worth the squeeze!

Cold and snow is even worse than light rain. It's cold and wet! But torrential downpour is definitely the worst situation.

The ball looks very sharp. What shutter speed do you normally use? Do you set it higher for capturing headers, where the ball is coming in fast?

Hi Rob, the R6 is on the way to me to replace the 1D MKIV. I also have a 1Dx MKII. Why do you use the R6 as your main camera during games over the 1Dx?
@juelraun3 жыл бұрын
I use 1DX1 with my 70-200 f/2.8 and 300mm f4L on 6D1. I see no problem in in Robs combination. I do indoor sports. Plan to get 2 x R6 with RF 70-200 f/2.8 and a EF 300mm f/2.8. This Saturday I shoot national league handball in a large arena with 1000 LUX - even my f4 keeps up in this light :P

Hi Rob, Great video! I am looking for a new monopod that will work well for my r6 and 300 lens. Are you using the one you recommend in your notes in this video? I'd like to try a twist lock this time. I shoot equine sports. Also do you have a favorite portable drive you like? I fill them up quickly with show images. Thanks for all you share. Love your videos!

Really interesting to see how other photographers shoot sports. Football is especially frustrating because goals are the hardest part to capture well, so I now use a remote behind the goal in the hope of getting lucky.

Great video Rob. When it comes to photographing youth sports do you gain parental permission for taking photos of under 16 year olds?
@turnipmadras2 жыл бұрын
local lower level rugby clubs close to me all have a policy to cover photographing youth and children in games and you need to obtain permission. Not sure if they also insist on a CRB check (or whatever it is called now). Always a good idea to have public liability insurance when photographing sports as well.
@terrygunderson56812 жыл бұрын
In the United States, minors or anyone else, are not protected from photography in public provided its not for commercial purposes. Say I took a photograph of your child and the a logo is in the shot. If the logos owner wants to buy the photo for advertising then it depends if any person can be identified in the shot, if yes, I'd need a model release. If it's the hands of the player on the ball but a reasonable person couldn't say that's (name)..then no release is needed. Even the back of a jersey with the person's last name is seen but not (typically) the face, no release is needed. Shooting for a news report, story, or other editorial purposes, no release is required. These have been secured under the 1st amendment to the Constitution of the United States freedom of speech, press etc.

Hi Rob. Im new to sport Photography, what are your thoughts about using the sigma 150-600 non sport lens for shooting outside games? I just picked up the R6. But can’t afford the new RF lens.

That one is a simple folding one from Amazon. I used a Minimax stool a lot bit if I'm parked right by the field and I know it might be a bit muddy I sometimes pull this one out of the back of the car
@whatmeworry20063 жыл бұрын
@@RobSambles Thank you for that info. So I have been reading reviews about the Mini Max ion the B&H web site and several people have said theirs broke. B&H sells the original made in Israel model (not the knockoffs you may find on other sites, and I recall in your video about stools you said you had the original one. I am planning to try one of the folding 16 inch models similar to what you used in this video but am interested in knowing how your Mini Max is holding up? Thanks in advance from the other side of The Pond.
