Haha I actually gave it a try, on mine of course, and I was too out of practice for it to sound very good. Here’s the slap cello video I was referencing kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpnFfGSroZKNhK8si=edYDtGsOYvelOMok

I have wanted to try cello ever since I first heard the cello quartet Apocalyptica doing Metallica covers on their cellos in the late 90s. They then went on to do a bunch of metal inspired and metal/classical mixed albums. They are so good. It sounds like she is doing a similar thing with hip hop and rap.

I grew up in a wind band setting as the only string player on upright bass, so I have very little personal cello experience. I’m subbing for a banjo player for a theater production right now and it surprised me how much low end the cello had, truly a versatile instrument. Also, maybe now Rob can get another cello endorsement and play cello at NAMM again, who knows

Hey Rob thanks for your multifaceted musical interest, and your willingness to try new instruments! There is a deck of cards called the infinite songbook that inspires people to learn the five most common instruments and to think of music theory in a unique way…you might really love it. In other modes of the “game” it is used to provide a staring point for writing your own songs. I am aware of you collaborating with Andrew Yang and your ability to pull songs out of the ether, and to Jam…I really think you would like the infinite songbook!
