MOTHERSHIP is a "best of" compilation. NOBODY'S FAULT BUT MINE is from their 7th studio album, PRESENCE. One really needs to experience all Led Zeppelin albums in chronological order, track after track. I suggest you do that. It's an incredible journey you've embarked upon!

When Presence first came out, a lot of Zep fans back from the beginning panned the album. Heck, they were getting panned from all directions, not the least of which was Rolling Stone magazine. I didn't really "discover" them until 1975, so I had this insatiable thirst for anything Led Zeppelin did. I thought Presence was masterful myself, and the thrill of hearing Nobodys Fault on the radio made it one of my first of many favorite Led Zeppelin songs!

What I love most about Led Zeppelin is that they were the ultimate BAND. All four were equals -- four master musicians and none could be replaced. That's why they didn't even consider going on after Bonham died. I think that is pretty much unique.

I just wished they gave credit to the artists who they derived songs from, like this one. Technically first recorded in 1927 and credited to Blind Willie Johnson, but only to Page and Plant on the record, it would have served them better that at least they should have gave an inspiration credit to Johnson. Led Zep had a bad habit of doing this; there are at least 25 songs of theirs that can be traced to other artists, many of which they were sued and settled over.
@stormy8207
@stormy8207 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesscully529 That is probably true and it is unfortunate. They should have been more vigorous in accreditation. On the other hand, what they take is an idea because what they do with it completely transforms the original. Plant was somewhat of a musical historian, fascinated by all kinds of stuff. Many modern musicians sample their music so turn around comes around I guess. And if they hadn't done these covers we would have missed out on a number of masterpieces. But that does not excuse their neglect.

I see a lot of great artists on the wall behind you, that makes me happy. It all started from the blues and Jazz with giants like Coltrain B.B. King and Muddy Waters. Led Zeppeling was also inspired with this particular song by Blind Willie Johnson. Cheers from Switzerland!

Try "When The Levee Breaks" and "You Shook Me" for some more great Robert Plant harmonica. Also; Bring it On Home Black Country Woman Custard Pie ...and one or two others. Mothership is a "best of" album released in 2007. Nobody's Fault is from Presence, Whole Lotta Love is from Zeppelin II, and Stairway to Heaven is from Zeppelin IV which is a contender for best Zeppelin album of all time (though Zep I and II are way up there for me too). The guitar in the intro and in the breaks is apparently double tracked, each with a phaser effect out of phase with each other. With a single guitar I think a flanger gets closer to the sound.. That harp (harmonica) has some overdrive and reverb on it. The harp in When The Levee Breaks also has some reverse echo. Love it when Robert wails on that blues harp. Led Zep were really good at using various effects in a way that integrated with and enhanced the music rather than sounding like a gimmick.

This is one of those songs where every single member puts out 100% of their talent and it all comes together perfectly, no one steps on anyone else’s toes or eclipses the other. Back in the seventies, the rock stations pretty much played every Led Zeppelin song there was at one time or another, and this 1976 song was definitely among them. I did notice that you could tell it was from a later album because Plant's voice sounded different than in the early years.

"Mothership" is a recent compilation album. The album this song comes from is "Presence", which was released in 1977. It had these odd photos on the cover that looked like they were from 1950's ads, except that each of them included this ominous black monolith that looked a lot like the one in "2001: A Space Odyssey". Great album, with some of their best work on it. (Zeppelin's stuff is best understood in the context of the original albums.)

Countless musicians played in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, then went on to greater success, either solo or joining another band. Eric Clapton & Jack Bruce, who would go on to form Cream, Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood & John McVie, who formed Fleetwood Mac, Mick Taylor, who joined the Rolling Stones, replacing Brian Jones, and Aynsley Dunbar, who joined Frank Zappa's band, and would later have a very prolific career as an in-demand side musician, both for studio work and touring, all of them spent some time with Mayall.

They got their start as what we now know as acid blues. Hard rock versions of the songs that inspired them as kids. In England after WWII, there wasn't much for kids to do, they studied old american blues and then the rock and roll pioneers of the 50's. They also studied music in school, which is why so many of them were so good even at early ages.

It's still crazy to me that the "holy trinity" of English guitarists - Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck - are all from the same town, Surrey. Got to be something in the water in Surrey.

Amber you just let herself get transported when you're listening to a great melodic passage. Your eyes close, your shoulders sway, and you just get INTO it! It's true appreciation.

For me Bonzo best performance, the way the drums and Page guitars complement each other, in the same rhythm, perfectly harmonized, is just insane

Amber, you need to hear Whammer-Jammer by the J. Geils Band. But only if you really like hearing a harp player rockin' and rollin'. Magic Dick will definitely show you how it's done. Find a good live version. Also, anything by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Maybe you've never heard of them, but they played at Woodstock and several musicians you have heard of came out of his band.

I immediately thought of Whammer Jammer as soon as Amber said how much she liked the harmonica. J.Geils Band rocked it!

As they often did Led Zeppelin here show the love they had for the old american blues.This one here was recorded in the 1930es by the great guitarist and blues-gospel singer Blind Willie Johnson.If your curious about how this song sounded back then you can check for that version.Blind Willie Johnson´s voice is so hard to forget.They sent one of his performances ("Dark was the night,cold was the ground") to sound in the outer space into the Voyager spaceship

Regarding harmonica in rock, that really began with the British bands in the mid 1960s. Of course, the reason that British bands like Cream, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds (with evolved into Led Zeppelin) played harmonicas is because they were playing thier versions of the music of Black American blues innovators like Howling Wolf, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, etc. (where harmonicas were prominent). Back then, the music of those Black blues artists wasn't being played on mainstream radio in the U.S.

For a great harmonica solo in a rock song, you need to check out the band Clutch with the song "Electric Worry". Also I'm glad you finally got to hear "Nobodys Fault But Mine".
