This song is also from the CALIFORNICATION album. These guys had kind of been written off / forgotten when this album came out, their style of music had kind of run it's course (so we thought) and then this dropped. This was the first single that came out (I think) and i can't think of anyone that didn't LOVE it. "Don't call it a comeback"... but that's kind of what it was. If I'm not mistaken it was also the return of John Frusciante on lead guitar which clearly had a huge impact.

If you haven't done Give It Away, please do. You'll see their early rock/rap hybrid that was kind of their own subgenre at the time. When others followed their lead in the 90's, the Peppers went a different direction, bringing songwriting and instrumentation to new levels, but more mellow and evocative. John Frusciante is a guitar god and genius and so criminally underrated.
