Gina is definitely a powerhouse on drums. When you see them live, it's hard not to watch her. And on songs like "Get Up and Go" and especially "Beatnik Beach," the drumming is just insane. The person on the keyboards is Charlotte Caffey. Multi-talented musician! You mentioned that you didn't appreciate the keyboard player on the last song and that is because she was playing lead guitar on that song. Although they all wrote songs for the band, she and Jane Wiedlin (the one with the silver guitar) were credited for a large majority of the song writing for the band.
@richmurray89922 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is the only Go-Go's song I can think of where there is really any significant keyboard. Charlotte is usually on lead guitar. Back around 2009 I finally saw them play live, after being a fan of theirs since the early 80s, and being in the presence of Charlotte playing that piano on "Head Over Heels" definitely ticked an item off my musical bucket list. It was a great show, but unfortunately it was during the period when Kathy wasn't in the band, so I still haven't seen the classic lineup.

Sorry I'm going to have to contest that statement. The "quintessential summer song" of the 80's HAS to be, "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama! Not even a person favorite of mine but, that song was EVERYWHERE back then. Which makes for a nice little tie in to the song "Our Lips are Sealed" by Fun Boy 3. Both bands covered it with the Go-Go's recording it 1st & Bananarama sang back up for FB3. Also Jane Wiedlin was having a secret affair with the lead singer of FB3, Terry Hall. If you listen to the lyrics carefully you can hear what they're going through while they dated. Another fun fact Jane was a Dominatrix for a number of years. Not sure if she is still. When ever I hear her voice, I chuckle and think; Wow, she's a Dominatrix?! 🤭🤭

Played their album "Talk Show" to death back in the 80s. Loved it. My favorites from that album were "Yes or No", "Beneath the Blue Sky", "Turn to You".

I adore that album from start to finish and am glad you mentioned "Beneath the Blue Sky," because I have always thought it's one of their best songs. (If you tune everything out, you realize Kathy is playing a really fascinating, complicated bassline on that one.) "Forget That Day" and "Mercenary" are among my other favorites.

Billy Preston "Nothing from Nothing" for some pretty masterful 70's piano work! He played keyboard for the Beatles on lots of songs....most notably on 'Get Back'

The Go Go's grew out the very earliest punk scene in LA. Belinda Carlisle (the lead singer) and Jane Wiedlin (the guitarist) later had solo hits in the 80s.

Thanks so much guys for hitting the Go Go's again its been so long. I can't explain how much this band means to me. I ate slept and breathed them back in the day. Have seen them several times in concert. One time I was in the front row pressed up against the stage and singing along to my all time favorite song of theirs, "Lust to Love" and as Belinda walked by she put her microphone down to me and let me sing a few words, will never for get that!! Check out "Our Lips are Sealed". The quintessential pop song of all time and the music video is SO cool!!

A song that Elton apparently HATES with a passion. I guess it's not Deep and Meaningful Enough for his taste. But, God love 'im, he knows the crowds want it, so he plays it. Says the best thing about retiring is that he'll never have to play it again.

As a very young teen hearing this when it came out... and seeing the video... I thought I was just super into drums and wanting to be a drummer... turns out I just had a crush on THIS drummer! Hah! My friends and I were experts as our air band version of this song. Oh and in 2020 I finally decided to take up the drums! Of course this song had to be on my list. LOve seeing you guys react to the music I grew up with... so fun to see it through fresh eyes!

The Go-Go’s and The Bangles defined female the pop band sound of the 80s. Everyone else has already made excellent suggestions for the next few Go-Go’s songs you should hear. On The Bangles side, y'all have already listed to "Hazy Shade of Winter", where they rocked out, so a good change of pace next would be " Eternal Flame".

"Let It Go" has some good keyboard action, if they're looking to scratch that itch.

The Go-Go's never get old. It's impossible not to bop to their music, it's infectious. And they were so cool, and such an inspiration back in the day when women in rock was still unusual, and an all-female band, was almost unheard of. Thank you, for reacting to them, that was fun!👍🏻 ** Suggestions for this week's Female Friday - Because of the 2022 Winter Olympics being held....please react to, Carrie Underwood's, The Champion. Carrie co-wrote the song, and she sings her tush off. VERY inspiring, uplifting song & video - it's a must see! Warning: It may bring happy tears. It's amazing! Thank you. Keep doing what you do! 😁♥️👏🏼👍🏻

For piano antics look no further than Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and some live Elton John and Billy Joel.

I know from watching other reaction channels, many Billy Joel songs end up blocked, but his 1977 performance of New York State of Mind particularly is amazing. But any live Billy Joel almost always features mind blowing piano work. He is truly a master.
