Yes, The Go-Go's are touring this year and I just saw them play live last month! Jane Wiedlin was so cool she saw a group of young school-age girls and brought them on stage so they could see the show better without those tall adults blocking their view, and they even a let a couple of them dance on stage with them.

Fun Go GO's facts: It's true that we grew up on the Go Go's on MTV and, yeah they were pretty wholesome. Very much a band parents wouldn't mind their kids listening to. Which is a little bit funny because before they were pop/rock stars they were a *hardcore* thrash punk band with a reputation for cocaine and alcohol fueled hotel-destroying parties. They all grew up and got it together eventually. Its fun to hear their very very early stuff and compare it to how they evolved into the band we all know and love!

Kathy Valentine, the bassist, wrote this song and brought it with her to the Go-Go's from her previous band the Textones. The record company didn't like this one because they said it took too long to get to the chorus, and the band refused to change it and it became one of the biggest, most iconic songs of the '80s. The rhythm section is really working overtime on this one: Gina's ferocious surf-rock drumming and Kathy's driving bassline. Take a listen to what she's doing on the bass during the chorus in particular and you will really appreciate how complex and melodic her playing is.

Fun fact, Kathy learned to play the bass in order to join the Go-Go's. She is actually a very good guitarist.....in fact she's really better than Charlotte. She played lead on several of the songs on their Talk Show album.

@@beckychapman3662 Yes! Most of my favorite Go-Go's guitar solos are on Side A of Talk Show and so for decades I gave them as examples of why I love Charlotte's playing so much. Then a few years ago I found out from Kathy's social media that all those "Charlotte" solos I loved were actually Kathy's! And that Talk Show-era B-side "Good For Gone" is also Kathy, which makes sense because the playing on that one really doesn't sound like Charlotte's style at all. So I asked Kathy and she was like, "Yeah, that was me." It's like the Bangles...Michael Steele was really a guitarist originally but ended up playing bass in the Bangles because that's what they needed. But I think everyone agrees that Michael is a better guitarist than either Vicki or Susanna, and Michael is credited with "additional guitar" on most of their albums.

@@christine3043 (if you were responding to my comment) yes, they definitely changed it a lot from the Textones' version. I meant that apparently the producer or label or someone thought they should change the version that the band brought to the studio *after* Char and Jane worked on it, but the band refused to change THAT version. I think it was KV (or maybe one of the others) who told the story about the label or whoever thinking the Go-Go's version took too long to get to the chorus. I know the Textones' version and of course the core of the song is there, but it didn't become anything close to the version we all know and love until after Charlotte and Jane got involved.

There's a great grrrl rock band that started in the 90s called Sleater-Kinney. They started out punk then more indie/alt rock and eventually hit a Led Zeppelin-esque period. They have alot of fun playful songs ("You're No Rock 'n Roll Fun," "Turn It On," "A New Wave," and "Rollercoaster") among their many great, harder rocking songs ("Dig Me Out," "What's Mine Is Yours," "Jumpers," and "Entertain"). They're pretty amazing.

Oh, hell yes they still tour! They are super fun live, I've seen them six times. They were recently inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and you should watch it. Drew Barrymore did an awesome introduction, and they played three songs. Amber, I was one of those girls who worshipped them back in the day. I was 15 years old in 1981 when their first album, Beauty & The Beat, came out, and my friends and I were obsessed with them!

I saw them play as part of a nostalgia tour, maybe 15 years ago? It was them, B-52s, and the Psychedelic Furs outside Houston, TX and it was a great show. Fred Scheider from the B-52s had some vocal issues, but everyone else sounded like they just walked out of a time machine from the Reagan years.

One rocking female that was way ahead of her time, was Poly Styrene and X Ray Spex - old school punk rock, while 20 year old Poly was clear headed fashion icon. The band only released one album but along with the usual bass, drums and guitar they had a 16 year old female saxophone player, Lora Logic. Check out the "The day the world turned day-glo' or the brute force of "Identity". Also as child choirs, check out the Langley Schools Music Project - Innocence and Despair recorded by a music teacher in the early 70's and only finding acclaim in the early 2000's, features children playing and singing a variety of songs from the time. The album features possibly the best version of the Eagle's 'Desperado' ever committed to vinyl.

The song mentioned above has a video that shows no people just a bunch of Dolphins if I remember correctly(I saw the video once back in 1988). The girl you mentioned playing the keyboards is Charlotte Caffey she wrote a lot of songs for various artists and she also had success in another group called the Grace's. The drummer is Gina Schock she was in a band with Edith Massey who was a huge star in a lot of old John Waters films. Gina also released successful solo work under the name House of Schock. Kathy Valentine the bassist has recorded solo work and work with a group called the Blue Bonnets. Belinda Carlisle the lead singer is the most successful of the group who had an amazing solo career with several chart topping songs. She also appeared in a movie called swung shift with Goldie Hawn. Diane Keaton also directed some of Belinda's videos. She married Morgan Mason whose father was an old Hollywood film star. Morgan appears in her Mv for the song Mad about you. The group is touring but they went through a lot In their younger years with drug usage inner fighting within the band and they broke up after releasing 3 albums. They reunited again put out a song called Has the whole world lost it head. Then went their separate ways finally reuniting again they put out a whole album called God bless the Go Go's and the song Unforgiven rose to the top 40 charts. After they went back to their own projects reuniting once again they started touring once more as a group and recorded new single, released a documentary and got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Belinda still tours as a solo act so they schedule their touring around her schedule. All of the members are song writers and with the exception of Gina none of them knew how to play instruments when they first started so they kinda self taught themselves after getting some tips from other musicians in the Los Angeles circuit. They were kind of marketed as the sweetheart of pop rock but were said to be asctually heavier partiers that could out do most of the male rock groups in the party department.

@@jeanfrancis8121 Yes I am aware of that. I also am aware of her appearances in movies and T.V. and she is one of my favorite. I am not purposely taking anything away from Jane I didn't mention any of her songs or the other members except Belinda and that was only to explain that her husband appeared in one of her videos. Jane had many songs and her Blue Kiss, Rush Hour and Fur are some of my favorites by her. I love this group and I could talk about them all day and list their songs as a group and soloists but I was just trying to explain the bands history without going to overboard.

I love the Go Gos, they were the first all girl rock band I had saw that played their own instruments! They were so much fun and they were great musicians! Belinda Carlisle is the lead singer (who had a successful solo career in the late eighties), Jane Wiedlin on guitar, Charlotte Caffey on Piano, Gina Schock on drums, and Kathy Valentine on bass guitar! They do still tour and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021…long overdue! ❤️❤️

I was a young woman when the GoGo's came out & I loved and adored them! I use to dream to be a replacement drummer because their drummer's name is Gina 😆& a few of them became famous on their own like Belinda Carlisle, & the guitar player with short black hair is Jane Whelan I believe & Actress Drew Barrymore( ET, 50 First Dates, Wedding Singer, Blended, Firestarter, Irreconcilable Differences, Boy's on the Side, & etc...) recently inducted the GoGo's into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I don't think they tour anymore Belinda lives in Paris or England with her family. Strong women have been around you just have to look a little harder. It was nice to grow up with strong women rockers that used their guitars 🎸to break that glass ceiling & went from background singers to lead singers to solo rock/ pop & whatever they wanted to be. Thank u for shining a light on them they were & still are awesome. Lots of good GoGo's song's 🧖‍♀️🧖‍♀️🧖‍♀️🧖‍♀️🧖‍♀️

They're still going strong *(^,^)* The Go-Go's, though members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, are an underrated band... Unlike the Runaways, the Go-Go's also wrote most of their own songs, as well as playing their own music. They were the first all-female rock & roll band to do that (and brought the punk sensibility into the mainstream). Belinda Carlisle is magnificent *(^,^)* She's 63 and still lovely ♡
