Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox were a match made in Heaven. She needed his musicality and ridiculous production skills to really showcase her voice and he needed that incredible voice to translate his songs. Absolutely classic music that will last well beyond our time. ✌️

+ their romantic relationship pre-eurhytmics also led them to emotionally be connected I think until ... maybe not this day... but for a good chunk of their collaborations... it's actually pretty rare a split up couple still manages to do stuff together, especially in such an emotionally-demanding area as the music making one... i wonder if there are other examples of 'teams' like this that have existed???

For me, this is their best song & her voice is majestic & stunning. Dave Stewart's production & musical skills are equally as stunning. Listen to the mix of instruments, and the way the opening synth riff jumps several octaves near the end, as Annie get's more intense, vocally.

Been an Annie Lennox fan since the get go. You've done this, "Missionary Man", and "Sweet Dreams", so that means you've gotten three of Annie's many facets. That's what she brings to the table, and why she's a true diva. "Love is a Stranger" is fantastic, as is "Who's That Girl?" They also duetted in 1985 with the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, herself, with "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves." And if you want to check out Annie's solo stuff, "Little Bird" is phenominal, as is "Why".

I was a 16 yr old when this song came out in the early 80's and everyone was trippin about her hair cut and how short it was. Some of my peers hated it and others loved it feeling it was so rebellious at the time. Its funny because today a pixie cut like hers is so common but back then her androgynous hair and style of dress really shocked lots of us. The gender lines were rarely crossed like what she was doing in her early years. Their first song "Sweet Dreams" really show cased androgyny and it threw us for a loop. lmbo...man we had know idea how things would change..it all looks so tame now that most of you kids dont even notice it ...which honestly is a good thing. The music style they had was considered a soft industrial sound. They didnt use many insturments it was all digital which was another new thing that swept music in the early 80's synth pop or rock.
@loadedorygun
@loadedorygun 2 жыл бұрын
Came to say much the same thing, male androgyny had been going on for a decade with Bowie, Marc Bolan, Freddie mercury and others. Female androgyny was more like just being a tough female, like a girl in a leather jacket. Annie Lennox exploded all that, with a non-masculine ambiguity, and she needs to be recognized for that pioneering approach that paved the way for others.

I was in Germany when I first saw Eurythmics on the German version of what America would soon be enjoying, called MTV, though not called that in Germany, I was 22 at the time, and remember thinking, wow, This is what's happening in America, I was a fan of Eurythmics from the very start, after getting out of the Army in 83, I came home and got into my career as a radio DJ, and lo and behold, Eurythmics charted and was always in some sort of rotation at our station, I told people about them when I got home, but it was one of those "You have to see it, to appreciate it" situations, and this was long before computers and internet...anyway...that's the way it was...LOL...Rock ON!

"I Need A Man", There Must Be An Angel" "Would I Lie To You?" So many great tracks. Their second and third albums were very new wave electronica, like this track, and very successful. With the critical and commercial failure of their soundtrack for "1984" (which I loved), they made a clear shift towards a more mainstream pop sound in the mid 80s, starting with "Would I Lie To You?". It's a shame their first album, "In The Garden", never gets any attention, it's not as good as "Sweet Dreams" by any means, but there's some cool weird stuff on their that's worth a listen. The first few years of the 80s blossomed with lots of new, experimental stuff.

One of the strongest, most empowering songs you'll ever hear: The Eurythmics, "Thorn In My Side".

Annie has always been just a top notch consummate artist and talent with an incredibly stunning voice. And with tremendous respect for what she and David Stewart accomplished together, her post-Eurythmics solo releases were incredible too. "No more I love You's" and "Why" are awesome, just to name two and really showcase her phenomenal vocal range.

Beauty. Power. Great reaction. Try Annie and David Bowie doing "Under Pressure" live at a Queen tribute concert. Thanks.

Was fortunate enough to see Annie Lennox live some years ago. Her voice live is indistinguishable from what comes out of a recording studio. Outstanding talent.

This really shows off Annie’s voice and the smoky depth of her voice especially….. there’s so many songs that are suggested already so just do them …… stunning band !

I remember watching this on TV when I was about 6 or 7. And I remember how eerie the video looks and it gave the chills almost to the point of being scared. Strange, I know. But as an adult, I love this song.

I've always loved the song "Thorn In My Side" by the Eurythmics. The song has all of the classic Annie Lennox vocals and Dave Stewart musicianship that defined the 1980's. I would also recommend checking out the Jane Wiedlin song "Rush Hour" for another amazing 80's experience.

Her and Sade both have the most amazing, deep female vocals.

When I heard the first song by the Eurythmics, SWEET DREAMS, I really thought it was going to be a One hit wonder. But each album was more interesting, going from electronic to rock, always different and fresh. And when Annie Lenox presented her first solo album, which is a wonderful piece, and with a perfect name: DIVA, she went from being a star, to a complete artist. Songs like: SISTERS ARE DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES, with Aretha Franklin, WOULD I LIE TO YOU?, THERE MUST BE AN ANGEL, with harmonica played by Stevie Wonder, or her solo songs, like: WHY, No More 'I Love You's, or his live version of UNDER PRESSURE with David Bowie, I know you'd love them.

One of their best! Please react to "Love Is A Stranger" and "Missionary Man." For Female Friday, please don't forget to do some Annie Lennox such as "No More I Love You's" and her duet with Aretha Franklin "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves." Thanks!

Such icons, Eurythmics (european rhythm, or so I heard, what it stands for).. this tune is definitely memorable. I was in grade school when this came out. Speaking of deep and mature female voice, am reminded of soul queen Anita Baker. Hope you check her out soon, if in case you both haven't yet. I suggest listening first to "Sweet Love", or "No One In The World".

LOVE the closing song to "Lord of the Rings Return of the King" "Into the West" by Annie. She was also a co-writer on the song. It really shows her vocal range.

You can never go wrong with Annie Lennox. The Eurythmics and her solo stuff, all great! She also did a duet with Al Green. A cover of the Jackie De Shannon song 'Put a Little Love in Your Heart'.
