Been an Annie Lennox fan since the get go. You've done this, "Missionary Man", and "Sweet Dreams", so that means you've gotten three of Annie's many facets. That's what she brings to the table, and why she's a true diva. "Love is a Stranger" is fantastic, as is "Who's That Girl?" They also duetted in 1985 with the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, herself, with "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves." And if you want to check out Annie's solo stuff, "Little Bird" is phenominal, as is "Why".

I was a 16 yr old when this song came out in the early 80's and everyone was trippin about her hair cut and how short it was. Some of my peers hated it and others loved it feeling it was so rebellious at the time. Its funny because today a pixie cut like hers is so common but back then her androgynous hair and style of dress really shocked lots of us. The gender lines were rarely crossed like what she was doing in her early years. Their first song "Sweet Dreams" really show cased androgyny and it threw us for a loop. lmbo...man we had know idea how things would change..it all looks so tame now that most of you kids dont even notice it ...which honestly is a good thing. The music style they had was considered a soft industrial sound. They didnt use many insturments it was all digital which was another new thing that swept music in the early 80's synth pop or rock.
@loadedorygun2 жыл бұрын
Came to say much the same thing, male androgyny had been going on for a decade with Bowie, Marc Bolan, Freddie mercury and others. Female androgyny was more like just being a tough female, like a girl in a leather jacket. Annie Lennox exploded all that, with a non-masculine ambiguity, and she needs to be recognized for that pioneering approach that paved the way for others.

I was in Germany when I first saw Eurythmics on the German version of what America would soon be enjoying, called MTV, though not called that in Germany, I was 22 at the time, and remember thinking, wow, This is what's happening in America, I was a fan of Eurythmics from the very start, after getting out of the Army in 83, I came home and got into my career as a radio DJ, and lo and behold, Eurythmics charted and was always in some sort of rotation at our station, I told people about them when I got home, but it was one of those "You have to see it, to appreciate it" situations, and this was long before computers and internet...anyway...that's the way it was...LOL...Rock ON!

"I Need A Man", There Must Be An Angel" "Would I Lie To You?" So many great tracks. Their second and third albums were very new wave electronica, like this track, and very successful. With the critical and commercial failure of their soundtrack for "1984" (which I loved), they made a clear shift towards a more mainstream pop sound in the mid 80s, starting with "Would I Lie To You?". It's a shame their first album, "In The Garden", never gets any attention, it's not as good as "Sweet Dreams" by any means, but there's some cool weird stuff on their that's worth a listen. The first few years of the 80s blossomed with lots of new, experimental stuff.

But each album was more interesting, going from electronic to rock, always different and fresh. And when Annie Lenox presented her first solo album, which is a wonderful piece, and with a perfect name: DIVA, she went from being a star, to a complete artist. Songs like: SISTERS ARE DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES, with Aretha Franklin, WOULD I LIE TO YOU?, THERE MUST BE AN ANGEL, with harmonica played by Stevie Wonder, or her solo songs, like: WHY, No More 'I Love You's, or his live version of UNDER PRESSURE with David Bowie, I know you'd love them.
