Samba Pa Ti gave all young musicians a look into the dances of South American/Latin dancing. That especially the Samba dance. Watch some excellent dancers doing the Samba. The dance style is dripping with sexuality and manliness-at least as we used to see it. Not to say anything about what’s right n’ wrong. Just, that’s Samba!

There’s another version of this song that I highly recommend with Carlos and José Feliciano, who added Spanish lyrics to this instrumental, and plays acoustic guitar. It’s beautiful. Also, another iconic instrumental of his is Europa.

An outstanding choice for tonight. Key members of the original version of Santana, the band, with Greg Rolie on keys and Neal Schon on guitar backing up Carlos. Of course we all remember how Greg and Neal went on to form Journey.

This past Saturday afternoon, my (step) dad was clinging on in his hospice room. I started playing a few tunes he liked, on my phone. The studio version of this was the 2nd track I played - while my sister and I each of us on his bedside, held his hands. He squeezed our hands when he could, even getting into it as if he were air guitaring..... the man was smiling....... 24hrs ago around this time, we lost him. He introduced me to this song. So now whenever I hear it, it's *HIS* song. Folks, if your dads are alive & well, give'em a hug just that much more tighter, and tell'em you love'em.

Carlos Santana has a brother, Jorge, who also had his own band in the 1970's called "Malo." They had a hit song called "Suavecito" that's really tasty! Jorge unfortunately passed on in 2020 😢 Also hit up Linda Ronstadt with the Chieftains "La Virgen De Guadalupe". The Chieftains are an Irish band, but the album Santiago is an homage to Galicia, an autonomous region of Spain where the language, music, and culture retain a distinctly Celtic influence from the area's original inhabitants.

This song is a slice of heaven on earth, and is one of if not the greatest instrumental of all-time. Other Santana classics include: "Evil Ways", "Black Magic Woman", "Soul Sacrifice", "Open Invitation", 'Oye Como Va", "Everything's Coming Our Way", "Jingo" "Winning", "Hold On" and an incredible version of The Zombies classic, "She's Not There".

I love this man! I have listened to him for over 40 years. This is my absolute favorite song of his. Thanks for choosing it! If you hear 3 chords of his guitar, you know who's playing. He has his own original sound. He has a song featuring Michelle Branch called "The Game of Love." His solo in it is phenomenal. Santana once said " I don't play the music. The music plays me."

For pure Latin Rock by Santana, you need to check out Corazón Espinado with Mana, another awesome Latin Rock band from Mexico. Original music video. This was on his comeback Supernatural album that Smooth/w Rob Thomas was on. Along with Maria Maria and Put Your Lights On with Everlast. This Woodstock guitar legend from the late 60s came out with Supernatural 30 years later in 1999 and won 9 Grammy Awards breaking Michael Jackson’s Thriller record.

A few thangs. 1. There is a vocal version of this beautiful love song. 2. Santana sings with his guitar. 3. Santana's entire Abraxas album satisfies your desire for Latin flavours. Every song is great, including this one of course, but also Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, Incident at Neshabur, on and on... They also flow well together. Great review y'all. Off to watch the Man of Mystery...

He's such a treasure really. You know you're a good guitarist when you have Jimi Hendrix complimenting you. And Santana is really generous with working with other musicians. Probably one that isn't that well known, which sucks because it's a great song, is the song he does with Michael Jackson "Whatever Happens". You can just tell in that song the respect they have for each other. Please check that one out. 😎👍

Two artists with Spanish heritage come to my mine. Freddie Fender " Before the Next Teardrop Falls" and Mr. Johnny Rodriguez. Johnny has many wonderful songs, but one of my favorites is " We Believe in Happy Endings". Give these guys a listen, they won't disappoint!

His wife Cindy Blackman is his regular drummer these days. They put on a terrific set at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Concert this past weekend. He was instrumental (pardon the pun) in the success of Paul Reed Smith guitars. He was PRS first major endorser back in the 80's.

Haven't heard this song in years. I had the single as a little kid, maybe 6 or 7 years old. I always cried when I heard this beautiful song. 40 years later and still crying. The perfect example that you don't need a singer to deliver emtions. I recommend everybody get yourself some headphones and listen to the studio version. Like I did as a little child.

Brings back happy memories. I was priviliged to see this amazing guy perform live in Birmingham , UK, many moons ago. He did an absolutely barnstorming version of 'Black magic woman' which had us all on our feet at the end applauding this guitar playin god.... He didn't play Samba Pa ti though, and i think it was because people were shouting too hard for it, almost demanding. And i think he was a little insulted..and didn't play it. But by god, the concert was still absolute FIRE..!😀😀😀

Thank you thank you...growing up in the 70's in Chile Southamerica, Santana's music was our outlet in life, you have two more Santana's songs that you'll love. "Oye como va" and :Guajira", Samba is Brazil's national music.

Carlos is The Zen Master of guitar. He's also one of a few players that you can identify after a few notes. For your next guitar instrumentalist you should go in a different direction and check out Joe Satriani: Surfing With the Alien, Satch Boogie, The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing (my fave), Summer Song 🤘🤘

I can recognize his playing with closed eyes even if I never herd the song before just because of the identical sound of his guitar playing!

For another Hispanic Heritage reaction, please consider “Suavecito” by Malo (1971), a band that includes Carlos Santana’s brother Jorge Santana. Wikipedia calls it “The Chicano National Anthem” - I don’t know about that, but it is a beautiful song.

This song brings back great memories of my dad, who passed away last year. He was a radio DJ in the 70s in the Wiregrass area of SE Alabama. Samba Pa Ti was the song that he always signed off with. And people would call in and request "the long version", which involved my dad switching between two separate turntables with the same record on each. While one played and was being broadcast, he'd que up the other at a specific point so that he could simultaneously stop the first and start the second, which allowed him to extend the song seamlessly for as long as he felt like swapping back and forth. I appreciate the trip down memory lane. Love and miss you Dad ❤

Such an amazing human. Ive seen him live more than a few times, my favorite was the loma prieta earthquake benefit on the grass baseball fields at Watsonville high School in Santa Cruz county. Santana had lived in the county in Aptos or Soquel for many years so he had a direct connection with the area, and showed up to help :)

So glad that you lovely young folks finally reacted to this song...first heard this on the Abraxas album when it came out, I was in third grade and the whole album was awesome but Samba Pa Ti embedded itself in me and will always be my favorite song ever! The way the song flows is like the soundtrack of a relationship...starts off slowly and then builds up as time passes... perfection
