Couldn’t agree more. Nobody lets a song “breathe” anymore. (Well, I am sure some artists do, but it’s woefully lacking in today’s world of auto tune, click tracks, and “Pro Tools.”) Grateful I came of age in the 60’s and 70’s.

Santana is the best soloists of all time ,bar none , specially if you consider the melodic emotional and lyrical aspect of playing , tons of people can play great runs and do technical wizardry but the emotion in his playing is unsurpassed, the crazy thing is a lot of his best solos are not generally known to even some of his big fans .

Every time I hear this, I'm filled with such a sense of longing that it's almost painful. I have loved this exceptional guitarist, songwriter, and composer since I saw his performance at Woodstock 69. That was completely new territory, for a young man from New Hampshire, and I will never forget it If you want to hear some more, check out his music with Gato Barbieri, a sax player from Argentina. He played with Carlos in several live performances, and Carlos guests on a few of Gato's albums... Caliente and Tropico come to mind. Songs like Europa, Latin Lady, She is Michelle, Poinciana... Just beautiful. I urge you to check out this great Latin Jazz maestro, you won't be disappointed, I promise.

I absolutely LOVE this song. It's such a beautiful song. It reminds me of all the people, quinceañeras, and dances from my old neighborhood. I was in the old barrio a few years ago and it hasn't changed much. I saw shadows of myself in the kids there today. Listening to this brings me to tears from nostalgia.

Superb! The late Gato Barbieri covered this pretty effectively but both Carlos and Gato collaborate on Santan's Latin Lady. One of the best "duets" I've ever heard. I knew it was special when I first heard in on Gato's 1989 "Tropico" album. Definitely worth a listen.

What can be said? Carlos Santana is another level. From his acid induced legendary Woodstock performance to his collaboration with the world’s finest, Miles Davis and Eric Clapton to name a few, we are fortunate to live in a time with Carlos. He survived many tragedies and lost famous peers along the way only to re-emerge and revive the music industry. Santana evolved over time in various genres from jazz to classic rock, blues and guitar instrumentals. No matter what sound, Santana offers a relaxing voyage, a romantic mood or some dancing . It’s all there.

I am so impressed that this song was recommended and that these two listened to it. Europa (Earth's Cry, Heaven's Smile) is, in my opinion, the only perfect song ever written. Not a note out of place. No moments of self-indulgence. No stray notes artificially added as a means to get to another note. This song is absolutely perfect. Obviously, my favorite song of all time. Saw Santana play it a couple of years ago when he came to my town. I jumped from my seat and screamed when those first immediately identifiable notes transported me out of my body as I floated on the music. And I was sober. Yeah. It was that good.

Actually, the full title of the song is "Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile)". Which might just be the best subtitle of any song, ever. And also: GREAT PICK! Jay, you should lose bets more often! jk Finally, Please give Joe Satriani a try. He's been doing guitar-led instrumentals for the better part of his four-decade career. He's one of the GOATs as far as guitarists go. Try "Flying In a Blue Dream", "Time", "One Big Rush" or "Surfing With the Alien" to see what I mean.

Santana played at the Greek Theater in LA a number of years back, maybe 15 years ago. As it was in my younger days, I didn’t have money for shows always, so at times we would hike into the hills behind the amphitheater, and this is how I saw Santana … (also Al Green and 1/2 a Radiohead show). At one point in the show during a song break, blue lights shot out from the stage and into the hills where we were. We were not the only ones up there, but the lights shown directly on a friend and I, and Carlos himself saluted with a dedication, “This one is for the people in the hills!” I can’t remember what song it was he played then, but I do remember he finished with a killer cover of John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”.

My brother went to get us drinks at about noon during the concert (before Santana) and I never saw him the rest of the day. I stayed to the end (Aerosmith) and then went to the tunnel going under the track and stuck my thumb out asking"anyone going to San Berdnardino?" Following the jazzy period of CARAVANSERAI, LOVE DEVOTION & SURRENDER, and WELCOME, the album AMIGOS reminded us of Santana's early Latin blues, roots. And from AMIGOS, the guitar ballad EUROPA combined all of Carlos' best features!
