This song is over 100 years old and gets covered at least once every generation keeping it fresh in the populations memory. It being used in the movie was simply down to it fitting into the time the movie was set as the oldest known recordings of it are from the 1920's even with the song being in written form since the mid 1910's. When you get a song right it will still sound good generations later.

Having a true Profundo Bass is a group - let alone one with a 5 Octave range is a real help to any band; they are all excellent singers - but I love the way Tim finishes this solo lines in what sounds like a real deep bass, then immediately after he goes off camera he drops down at least another octave and that is still not in his real sub woofer range! There are KZbin video where he has blown sub woofer and the notes are more felt then heard!

When I looked up some of his other songs I was quite disappointed to hear him singing in the tenor range! I mean there a quite a few excellent tenors but that Profundo Bass...WOW. The Misty Mountains Cold though...that last note doesn't even sound like it could be coming from a human. Chills.
@lschoenrank2 жыл бұрын
@@burrichgrrl57 I think Tim really likes to play. His range is something like 5 octaves and he very much doesn't want to ONLY sing basso profundo. And now that they have Adam Chance in the group, they have him to carry the bass line anytime that Tim is singing lead. He even goes falsetto sometimes. Have you heard Tim and Austin doing "My Maria"? For low low low, perhaps "Brothers in Arms".

It is pretty easy to fall for this group as they are so talented! Each of them has their own unique beautiful voice but when you put them together along with Adam their beatboxer the sky is the limit! Great music really is timeless! You should check out Home Free's cover of End of the Road by Boyz 2 Men, you will not be disappointed!

This is MY first time hearing Home Free, and they're great. But let's not short-change traditional bluegrass. To me, watching a Bluegrass band play takes it to the next level as much as watching an orchestra kicks classic music up a notch.

This song actually predates "bluegrass" by many years.

Home Free! Yes! This is the first of theirs that I ever heard, too, and I was Home Fried at first sight. I so hope you do more of them. Their cover of Ring of Fire is another favorite I commented about on a Johnny Cash video you did. 'Mayday' is another. You really can't miss with anything Home Free does :~)

I love how you're bouncing all over the place until Tim hit you with the bass solo, and you just STOPPED. LOL You would probably love the Butts Remix, Hillbilly Bone, Ring of Fire, Helplessly Hoping, and after all of those and a few more, Mayday. But don't do Mayday until you have a grasp on their roles and ranges within the group, trust me on this. Please go down the Home Free rabbit hole, the Home Fries will follow!

(Apologies in advance for how long this will be....) YES!!! My favorite reactor couple has discovered my absolute favorite acapella group!! Home Free started out here in my state of Minnesota, and they are truly phenomenal. As others have said, they are all acapella; everything you hear, everything, is their voices. (NOTE: I strongly encourage you to listen to them with earbuds or headphones, to pick up all the little and low things they do.) The group: *Rob Lundquist (far left): Smooooth tenor vocals and a constant source of humor. *Adam Chance (left, back row): The other Adam, who goes by Chance to avoid confusion. Great baritone/bass voice who takes over on bass when Tim takes the lead. *Austin Brown (center): High soaring tenor vocals who pulls out some awesome yodels every once in a while. *Adam Rupp (right, back row): The walking percussion machine. Drums, harmonica, castanets....he does it all. Pretty sure he's not human. *Tim Foust (far right): The dragon. Has an insane range, and his lowest bass notes come from the mines of Moria. I have SO much of their music to recommend to you, since everything they do is gold, and in multiple genres too, not just country-flavored. Some of my favorites: "How Great Thou Art" and "Helplessly Hoping" (sheer vocal perfection), "Ring of Fire" and "Folsom Prison Blues" (for more of Tim's insane low range and Adam's "harmonica"), "All About That Bass" and "The Butts Medley" (for their hilariously goofy side), "American Pie" and "Workin' For a Livin' " (for excellent covers of two rock classics), and my favorite Home Free song, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Go nuts!!! Oh, and MORE CHICAGO!!!! :) -Todd

Kentucky is wrote all over that song, lol stamped with the words "Kentucky Strong"! Funny just like heavily strong coffee is strong and being especially strong in the South". As far as suggestions go, I would say three songs come to mind, "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and do listen to more than just Bill Monroe singing it. "Rocky Top", and then this next song has, as often with Old Country and Old Bluegrass are, they're both tightly intertwined, the song is, "In the Pines". Lastly, this I have to talk of, a Kentucky Man, extremely talented and music of many types. Do listen to him singing "Man of Constant Sorrow". You can take the man out of Kentucky, but you cannot take Kentucky out of the man! This includes in his talk and largely in his singing! Mr. Dwight Yoakum, I love everything that he's ever done! I will edit this, cause there's a particular album that he made that is so much as if made long, long back of Old Country/Old Bluegrass. It just has that old time sound to it! I will have to find that for those interested. I particularly love listening to it and Bluegrass in general, plus really Old Country, when taking road trips throughout any region in Southern States, where there's hills and hollers having tall trees, pines and rocky outcropping, with hills near to being mountain sized! It just calls out to listen to music such as Bluegrass!
