This song is one of 4 top 5 singles songs from the musical "Hair". The others: "Easy To Be Hard", by Three Dog Night, "Hair", by The Cowslls and "Aquarius (Let The Sunshine In)", by The 5th Dimension. "Jean" and a great version of "Early Morning Rain" are two others from Oliver worth checking out.

It was kept off the #1 position in 1967 by "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees. ALSO check out the song "Hair" by The Cowsills. It was a major hit for them in 1969 and was a counterculture anthem.

Oliver (born William Oliver Swofford) had a second hit called “Jean” which was part of a movie called “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”. You should check out his performance of “Jean” on The Ed Sullivan Show. “Jean” was written by Rod McKuen, an artist in his own right. You’d like his song “Soldiers Who Want To Be Heroes”. As for Oliver, he sadly passed away in 2000 of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was only 54. R.I.P.

The first time I watched this video I was thinking somethings a little off the I realized none of the video is actually from the sixties. I don't know what or when this video was made but it wasn't the 60s. I was 12 years old when Woodstock took place in 1969 so I kinda know what the sixties looked like. Still a super good song and the video is pretty close. Anyways keep up the excellent work. Oh also I loved Ambers reaction to the surfing bird song. I laugh every time I watch it.

I remember this song being all over the radio in 1969 (there wasn't any FM radio stations in New Mexico in 1969), so, this was unusual because most AM stations back then was old country. Anyway, several months after Sesame Street started on PBS, one of the regulars sang Good Morning Starshine (I was so elated) and being 7 years old, I didn't understand (then) why songs just go away because Good Morning Starshine just went away after that.

You're right, it's a different recording, at least compared to the one released here in the UK but with all the same elements. I was just entering my teens at the time, so I was never a bona fide hippie but I wore my fair share of kaftans and loons even if sandals were a no-no. Street cred trumped counterculture for kids in 60s London!

The song "Good Morning Starshine" is from the 1967 Broadway musical "Hair", and was a big hit for Oliver in 1969. Oliver's had only one other hit, a million seller in the summer of 1969, and that was "Jean" from the movie "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" from that year.

The original Broadway cast recording of the groundbreaking show Hair was Billboard's No. 1 album for 13 weeks in 1969 and won a Grammy. A number of stars got their starts performing in the show, like Diane Keaton and Donna Summer. The 4 hit singles from the show were all great. Oliver's next hit, Jean, was from the 1969 movie, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Maggie Smith starred and 54 years later she is still starring in movies.

Ah, a song from "Hair"... for a similar vibe check out the soundtrack to "Godspell" as well. Both have movie adaptations that are worth the look-see.

What a wonderful memory!!!!. For a song with a similar feel you'd like "Fresh Air" by the Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Love This Song! It gains even more respect when listened in context with the other songs on the Hair soundtrack.

This was not the original version of the song. Some artists were known to have gone back into the studio and re-record their hits since they didn't OWN the original hit recordings (their record company usually owned it). So once they were out of their contractual obligation, they might have gone into a studio somewhere and re-recorded it in an effort to recapture the original vibe. They never quite do. This one's not bad. But for those of us who grew up on this music and heard this song hundreds, maybe thousands of times, it's obvious that it's not quite the same as the original.

I cannot hear this song without thinking of the Simpsons x X-Files crossover episode, where the song features in a humorous bit. Featuring Leonard Nimoy and Chewbacca, because why not. 😂

So glad you were finally able to find time to react to this one!! Knew you guys (especially Amber) would love it! Oliver really only had one other hit, called Jean. It’s pretty good, but he is remembered for Starshine! Still love for you to react to Fallin’ In Love by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds! Another song I think you both would love!! ❤

That was 1 of my most favorite songs during the 60s when I was 10 years old... That song was so happy and it just reminded me of better days... Great reaction Jay and Amber... For once I do have a request... I don't know if you've done before but could you please react to " The Rain, The Park, and Other Things " by The Cowsills... The Cowsills are a family band that the partridge family TV show was based upon...Thanks again, guys...Keep being awesome...

You should put the movie "Hair" on the list for your movie channel. As others have commented, it has some really great music, some of which you've already reviewed.
