Me and Kevin both had annual passes to go to theme parks for well over a decade. But is that era coming to an end? We talk about the situation- this episode might be kinda too much inside baseball for some people who aren't in California or Florida or whatever but it was still a fun discussion idk

Kevin is 100% spot on with the free parking. $25 every time you visit quickly adds up to the cost of a pass that includes free parking.

I'm willing to bet the number of locals who use the annual pass just to hang out is a smaller number than the amount of people who get the annual pass, then fail to use it. There's some mom out there in Wisconsin who is sure she can get out to Disney four times a year, then struggles to get there once a year. Or they make enough money they keep forgetting to cancel it, but don't really care because it's cheap to them and they think they'll use it eventually. This is how all subscription services are from gyms to porn. They encourage you to pay for a long term plan upfront because people are bad at thinking long term. They try to delay that first payment so you'll have forgotten about it. But they try to give you price breaks for making a bigger purchase upfront. This makes the billing cycle more confusing. Or maybe you do cancel after only a month, but you payed for a whole year. If that mom in Wisconsin didn't exist Disney wouldn't have created the passes in the first place.

I believe the canceling of the Annual Pass has to do with logistics. Like Kevin said that after work he just drops by Disneyland for dinner and a few hours then goes home. This multiplied by a thousand creates a park that is relatively quiet in the morning then when work is over the park is packed. On top of that the general annual pass member goes to the park with themselves and maybe one other guest which takes up more parking space when meeting up for a group of four then a family of four that all takes up one space. They built a new parking structure to help alleviate the problem. I believe there are rumors that the annual pass member count was around 1 million passholders. If a large portion all decide to show up one day and disney was not prepared than it is chaos. They are most likely just wanting to get more accurate numbers of how many people are going to the park on each day to properly staff the parks.

I think there's a fair argument that pass holders make things way worse for tourists because it's so crowded. A theme park being a casual hangout for locals means it's shitty for people who may only get to go a few times in their life.

Talking about passholes reminded me of so many times I saw this at Disneyland during the 50th anniversary but also a lot of people misunderstanding what they could/couldn’t do with their passes, sometimes it was honest mistakes.

hell yeah gimme the sad eye joe yeah though, disneyland hiking the price is making it impossible for friend groups / families like mine to go from vegas. i know this video is before the price increases and announce of magic keys, but it discusses the inflation of disneyland prices, and its crazy that two days is over $250 a person without park hopper (with parking at $30). i havent been in over 6 years, and im absolutely crazy about disneyland, its such a bummer that i love this place and havent been in so long. disneyland just isnt a place for me or my family's income level anymore. we dont even spend over $1500 on christmas, we would not be able to drop that and more to see disneyland for a day or two and miss out on park hopping or genie+ due to the extra costs. there really isnt an end in sight for the price increases either, people will pay it so i will be excluded until i make more. great video guys, creepy old crypt rocks and got me back into watching videos of disneyland, checking out the history, and remembering my many years of visiting when we could afford it.

28:10 - "Do you feel in charge?" Also, the Cedar Fair platinum pass doesn't only work with every Cedar Fair park in the country. You can also use it at Canada's Wonderland!

At the Tokyo Disneyland Resort with the current Annual Pass program which they might have stopped as well, if you didn't take a refund, you have to reserve which day/park you want to to do. But that's not owned by the Disney company.

There are certain types of people who will abuse the hell out of any sort of status you give them, no matter how minor. Its funny too cause I would imagine Disney would rather appease regular guests over annual pass holders since they've already bought in to the park.

I still don't fully understand how people could go to a theme park more than once or twice in a lifetime. It really must be a different experience going casually and having the park nearby. It was a 2 day drive for us, and we planned it out a year in advance. The lines were all 2+ hours long and we got to go on like 3 rides. There was no time to relax and enjoy the magic of it all. It was just lines of people. Probably bad timing, bad day, etc. But I don't get a second chance a few weeks later, and that might have made the difference.

100% on the same page with the parking. I will not buy a pass that does not have parking. I pay up front for passes, I don't do monthly. I don't want to think about it after the fact. Or to think "If I got today, I'll feel guilty for spending X when I also want to buy Z." I just want to be done with it. If I paid for the thing, it's DONE. I really hope they end up offering some pass for people coming in later in the day, that just can't come in before like 6 most days. I rarely went before 5 to begin with. And it was partially because the crowds thin out at night. So it's win win, people who would buy night passes wouldn't add to the bulk of the crowds in the day, and they would be selling more stuff at the time that people tended to head out. If people are local enough to justify buying an annual pass, they will often even just go there to buy dinner.

Cedar Fair also owns the former Paramount Parks, so up in the south bay there's Great America. Nothing else west of Kansas City, though.
