Yes, FT are more economical with every turnout you build. I figure I am saving $20 per turnout which over 96 planned turnouts is close to $2000.

@@EvanstonSub im a freight conductor for the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad and we interchange with the UP. We deliver the ARMN. The draw bars are so long that if they aren't lined up, you can knock them to the side and you can't move them by hand! The older ARMNs' draw bars move freely but the new ones lock up for some reason. So if you have trouble hooking them up as model, just know they are a pain in real life lol

For my yards I’ve been highly considering just cutting to size .25 inch plywood it’s basically the same and would save a ton by not individually laying cork or other bed on each line in my yard(s). When I build my third deck it’ll have a yard that’s pretty long and shaped with a bend and a full curve, I know that by substituting with wood it increases noise but I’d there any benefit otherwise using other roadbeds?
@jwrailve36153 жыл бұрын
If I made as much progress on my layout as yours has in such a short time it’d have been finished scenery and all by now. Cons of never knowing anyone personally into model railroading and not being the best carpenter
@EvanstonSub3 жыл бұрын
The road bed is needed to give the track a prototypical elevation above grade. Did you mean using .25" plywood for the roadbed on top of the plywood subroadbed?
@crashj3 жыл бұрын
I don't follow how you get the paper out from under the ties?
@EvanstonSub3 жыл бұрын
The paper is not removed. It stays under the ties. . It eventually gets covered up with ballast, although not in the staging yard throat.
@jonathanjones353 жыл бұрын
Looking good, Daryl. Nice to see the progress. I noticed on your layout that some of the points for the turnouts are right over joists. I am not sure how you're doing switch machines, but that situation might cause a problem.

Actually, I made sure they were all clear of the joists. Some were close, but they all had clearance.

@EvanstonSub3 жыл бұрын
Nothing yet. Would like to get a couple sd40-2 with yellow safety sill. DO anyone make the sd38-2?
@jasonmccarthy8203 жыл бұрын
@@EvanstonSub Kato had a run of SD38-2’s. I have one in UP, dyanamic brakes and triple clasp trucks. I bought it a few years ago to do a NW SD going from Robert Harpe’s modeling clinic, but since Scaletrains came out with the NW SD’s I have no use for it. It is UPY# something, has the safety stripes if I remember correctly. Brand new in the box, all the parts are there. I only took it out to test run it on my son’s little DC loop. All it needs is the details assembled and a decoder/sound decoder. I’ll get home tonight and dig it out of my loco stash and get the loco number and a few pics. Is there a way to privately message you? I don’t see any need to tear this engine apart to build one since I bought 4 of the scaletrains models. Not sure if the prototype is still used or not, or if it would fit in on your layout but I would be willing to help you with a ‘yard goat’ to shuffle those freight cars around :)

Cool video and well done. Question: Is that roadbed you're using a little wider then conventional roadbed. I only ask because years ago using the pine (wood) Tru Scale roadbed there was always about a 1/4 inch or so space between the two shoulders of the adjacent roadbeds and your roadbeds are right up to each other it appears...Just curious. Looks really nice regardless... Phil NYC Area...
@EvanstonSub3 жыл бұрын
So, with the adjacent roadbeds just touching each other, the track will have a scale 15' separation, which is prototypical for most class 1 mainline double track. However, they are now giving the mainlines a wider separating if any track s being redone.

Very interesting!! So I’m curious about your move if that’s ok to ask cause I followed along in your N scale videos and been to the Rochelle park many times. Then I was surprised after you finished your layout that you were switching to HO. So you’re in Utah now? I apologize if this is a too personal question just curious. Thanks and learning a lot from your videos:)

I was in N scale for over 50 years. Made the switch because we downsized our house, but upsized the basement. Ranch houses are great! With a surplus of space I decided to completely shift gears and go from a Midwest N Scale layout to an HO Scale mountain layout. The switch has put my interest level on steroids! We are not in UT, but in IL where our 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren live.
