The Railroad Co. software for the signals is pretty cool. I installed the Silver version on my empire about 7 years ago and have experimented with different aspects of it. I found how to do the signals for dark territory when no trains are present.

I'm not sure, of course, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you are working harder in your retirement than you did when you were employed, Daryl. Just a note, any turnouts the local crew throws are going to the turnouts for the ground crew we'll have to unlock them before they can throw them. You can simulate that by putting a key switch in line with the circuit and then when the local crew wants to line the turnout it called this factor and asked for permission

I don't think so. The SE8c uses Digitrax's proprietary "Loconet" to communicate with the SE8c. I don't think NCE is compatible with loconet. I could be wrong; I suggest checking the Digitrax website to know for sure.

Looks great Daryl. Was the clear coating on the magnet wire scraped off at the end of the wire on the Details West signals? You may want to consider small pins instead of the Cat5 wire, available at Digikey. The solder joint is enclosed by the sleeve of the pin and less prone to damage, shorting or breaking. Also, are you using BDLs for block detection?
@EvanstonSub3 жыл бұрын
It's was scraped off. However, it's been my experience that when you solder the magnet wire to cat5 wire or whatever else, any coating melts away and electrical conductivity is good. I am using bdl168s. I'll have to try the pins.

Shouldn't all that wiring on top of the bench work be underneath instead? Once scenery is in place, servicing wiring would be much easier underneath.
@EvanstonSub3 жыл бұрын
Yes, servicing the wiring will be more difficult. However, installing the wiring from underneath is also more difficult. All the wiring must be installed while only a tiny fraction, if any, wiring will need to be serviced. So, I installed the wiring on top of the joist.
If you go to other options, you can get them for 5.75 each and $8 shipping.

Nice progress. As I understand your signaling system, I believe you indicated that the dispatcher controls the signal, but the operator needs to throw all the switches. As an operator, for example, if a switch two blocks ahead is reversed, against your train, then the operator would need to normalize that switch before the dispatcher can code a permissive indication? Or in any case, on a mainline run, the operator needs to get in advance of the train, at least one block, assuring proper switch orientation, before the dispatcher can code the signal properly? Or, are you considering the dispatcher will ultimately have control of both the signals and the switches?

Yes, the dispatcher controls the turnouts during an ops session. The local control is for when I operate solo.

@@EvanstonSubThat Ja’Marr Chase/Joe Burrow combination will be terrorizing NFL defences for years to come. Both are in their early 20’s; Chase had his best game of the season by far.
