Daryl......I grew up in Forest Park Il, Just half a mile from the River Forest Line you are modeling and I spent a lot of time as a kid in those woods by the railroad bridge....You said in your video that you did not know the name of the street next to the elevated line...Well there are actually Three streets....The tracks and bridge over the Desplaines River would run next to Lake St. Just further east you would see Central Ave on the North side and Hawthorne Ave on the south side of Elevated line. The street you are modeling as the underpass could be one of three streets...Franklin Ave, Ashland Ave, or Lathrop Ave. Also of interest is that the CN has trackage that crosses over the top of everything (at 90 Degrees) there as well . Its looking good...looking forward to the next update.

Impressive job with the triple monitor computer setup. I run a similar setup just as my main computer. I'm only just getting back into the hobby, but It amazes me how far computer control has come. I started out with a parallel interface controller that was perpetually incomplete (based on the old Bruce Chubb's book). I had visions of my Commodore 64 controlling everything, but life happened, multiple moves forced me to lose track of my pair of modules, and stuff was never finished. Now I'm getting back into the hobby with a more defined focus. I'm modeling four fallen flags as if they were still around today: DME (and sister road ICE), CNW, and Rock Island. On my layout, the mega-mergers never happened. There's no CSX, no BNSF. UP is just UP. My first DME covered hoppers are sitting at the post office right now, and I'm swarming with Rock Island rolling stock. I'm looking forward to seeing what today's tech can offer in terms of control!

Hi Daryl. I am awed by how N-scale has evolved since I had to saw up my N-scale, free-lanced "Texas Central and Pacific Railroad" in 1994 and move elsewhere. Long story - wont bore you here, but I got out of the hobby - had no choice. I have learned a lot about operations, having watched all of your Union Pacific videos. I was the sole operator of my empire and your videos confirm that how I was operating my 12' by 15' layout were accurate. I am on a disability payment now and in an apartment, so I can't get back to where I was with the trains. I'd never be satisfied with a coffee table setup. If you have time sometime, check in with me and let's chat. Wow, I'd sure love to operate again and maybe, if you get to know me, you might be able to let me attend a session. The T. C. & P> was a simple wiring layout, just a Tech 2 power pack with Pulse Injection ( great for that low-speed switching I loved so much.) I know nothing of wiring and this DC stuff today. I could stand to learn a lot. I had it all - big metropolitan Texas cities (they were fiction), intermodal terminal, Amtrak, oil can unit trains - you name it. I also had an excuse to operate my Bachmann F9's on the T. C. & P's officer's specials ("The Administrator") in the modern era. My big road power was Bachmann SD 40-2's - great runners and Kato GP 50's on intermodal. Well, sorry, I've written a magazine article here -lol! My E-mail is tthomason14@yahoo.com and, of course, I am on Face Book. Thank you so much on your wonderful Geneva Division Series. Got me interested again and this is the only way I can enjoy this hobby today.

Be mindfull of your rivet counters... You need UP cab signals on your leader on the Geneva Sub. Those CN units don't have them.
@EvanstonSub7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am aware of the cab signals requirement. I used to live 1/2 mile from the mainline in Rochelle. All foreign motive power on the Geneva Sub that I saw had at least one UP unit on the head. A UP road engineer who operated on the layout in Rochelle and told me about the cab signals. He also said there was talk of plans for a limited number of CN units getting the cab signals so they could make it to Rochelle on their own. I Don't know if those plans ever came about on the prototype, but they did on my modelled version :).
