You correctly diagnosed the problem of the base coat of plaster sucking the water out of the thin coat you brush on. Spraying the base plaster with a little water will keep your thin coat you paint on from getting thick so fast.
@EvanstonSub8 ай бұрын
I actually like the plaster getting thicker as it then fills in seams and smooths out the mesh of the plaster cloth.

Glad you're back to scenery! When I built my tunnel, I ballasted the track inside the tunnel with dark gray ballast instead of light gray - gives a nice sense that you are entering a very dark place.

That's a great idea!

Hey Darryl, great video and progress on the scenery! I don't believe the link to download the backdrop photos is working properly. Thanks - Brian

You need to add rock protection walls next to the back walls
@EvanstonSub8 ай бұрын
Maybe. I have never seen these on the Evanston Sub, however.

Hi Darryl, have you checked the tunnels for your Bigboy. How are you going inside the tunnels to clean tracks and derailments? Regards Mike HO from Australia.
@EvanstonSub8 ай бұрын
I have not. Kinda leaning toward not getting a big boy and going with a challenger instead.

Solid? Not able to lift out for a derailment?

I can reach the tracks from underneath.

Add a large rock formation to make that look like something that needed to be tunneled through?
@EvanstonSub8 ай бұрын
Check out pictures of tunnels on the Evanston Sub. There are many in smallish hills that you would not expect. Remember, this line was first built in 1869.

Daryl, Is the parallel tunnel to the north of the Aspen tunnel the Altamont tunnel ? Or - is the Altamont tunnel separate from the Aspen tunnels ? Thank you, Phil
@EvanstonSub8 ай бұрын
So, west of the tunnels is the Altamont CP with two crossovers. East of the tunnels is the Aspen CP with two crossovers. Both are fairly close to the tunnel entrances. I'm guessing they want them there so when one tunnel is under maintenance, trains in both directions can crossover to the other tunnel. I do not have room for both CP so I just included the Aspen CP which is why I refer to them as just the Aspen tunnels even though they are the Altamont /Aspen tunnels on the prototype.
