I’m 66 & never been an ABBA fan. When they toured Australia in 1978 the band I was with boycotted the tour & Countdown the ABC TV program that promoted disco & pop music. We hated the shit, we were serious musicians. Well I have come out of the closet with these songs, I am an unabashed ABBA fan. Any song that makes me cry, every time I listen to it, has to have something going on. This isn’t pop music, it’s sacred spiritual ART, so well crafted. Like you I have analysed it’s structure, I use noise cancelling headphones to delve right into the production. It is very well crafted, Benny is a genius, Bjorne is an incredible lyricist & the woman, just exude emotion & the scars of life. I’m in love with ABBA & yes please enter my door is wide open.

IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR A PERSON WITH THE MINIMUM OF GOOD TASTE FOR THE MUSIC NOT TO BE EMOTIONED, ABBA HAS AN ENERGY THAT CURRENT MUSIC DOES NOT HAVE IN ANY WAY....WELCOME TO THE 21ST CENTURY, ABBA!!

Great to hear a reaction video from people who actually know something about music. It's Benny who did the bassline by the way. He also wrote the music, arranged, mixed and produced the song. And of course, he played the piano and synths. Without Benny Andersson, there's nothing to be recorded. Of course without the girls' voices, there's no Abba sound. And without Björn, there are no great lyrics. They sure won the lottery ticket meeting each other all those decades ago in Sweden

You can say a lot about the song but what it all boils down to is --- When these four get together they create magic. All these years later and still as powerful as ever. I don't have much doubt that their virtual concert will be groundbreaking too. And we'll see more artist from past era's jumping into it. ABBA still staying ahead of the game.

I agree.Despite me liking also their solo stuff im sure that Abba"s magic was always a" together thing".You got 4 great individuals but when joining forces make the utopic sound nobody else can reproduce. Its like 4, making the "precious BEST" 1 of a kind, the pop music world needed.

I read a deeper meaning in that Agnetha talks to her old supporters and that she helps them understand that she has changed, but that she has now regained her desire. ABBA is back, but understand that it may be different now, but more mature.

The "resolution" to the song, is decided by us. She asks us to accept their return in this new form (as ABBA-tars) and don't "shut them down" as they are now digital virtual versions of themselves. The lyrics are pretty straight forward and not subtle at all!

Hey GGB, you're spot on about the infinite care Abba take with their songs. There used to be a video on KZbin where someone had isolated (as much as it's possible without the multitrack) the vocal harmonies in Knowing Me, Knowing You. I've heard the song a thousand times and still was flabbergasted to hear those voices. They'd used different harmonies for each instance of the chorus. And some of them sounded pretty free-jazzy by themselves - because they were designed to mesh with the music. So...that's one of the reasons their songs bear and reward repeated listening. So why do they go to all the trouble? I suspect they just love music.

I love you genuine affection of ABBA's music as a whole and of this great song. I've listened to loads of other reactions but yours the best. Your dissection and analysis of the song is on point and precise, keeping it short but sweet. And I realised only experts are able to unravel this in such a short and precise manner... It's really cool to hear such a good song being dissected in such a simple manner in an expression which can be easily understood by fans. What also sets apart your reaction from the others is that I could actually sense the warmth, genuineness and honestly in your comments and affection of the music you heard. Love it😍👍 I also agree with another fan who mentioned below that the lyrics of this song is also capable of being interpreted as ABBA's plea to their fans to accept them as who they are today as they are not the same as 40-50 years ago. Ohhh..the layered meaning of an ABBA lyrics.. Absolutely genius.. sublime.. beautiful.. Frankly speaking, there's an extra strength and beauty in the present ABBA, as a result of years and years and years of experience.. there's such a maturity and extra feel to their singing and musical production..the magical combination of their 'now and then' if you know what I mean. And let's not forget that ABBA manage to sound current while maintaining their unique style and trademarks. Pure bliss and magical..❤️😍👍

I absolutely love the whole concept of their return. The lyrics with double meanings, those voices, the melody lines, the harmonies, the magic is there. This is what we needed. Björn said, the lyrics had to be about the four of them. And so clever how they say, here we are, we`re not the way we were, but as decoded and reloaded (as Abbatars), don`t shut me down. We won`t. Thank you for the music. Watching their live show with the launching of their come back made me cry out of pure joy. After being an Abba fan for forty years, I still can`t believe this is happening. And to know, there`s a whole album coming, it just doesn`t get any better than this.

Stumbled on your channel whilst idly flicking through reactions to this and the other one. Saw "Faith in you" first and got a bit irritated by the stop/start nature of your reviews. Then, while watching this one, I realised that I can hear the uninterrupted version any time I Wish, and that your interjections were actually really interesting and valuable. As someone who knows nothing of music I was fascinated by the way you break down the structure of the song, and point out layers and instruments that I'd never have noticed, So thanks. Hello Malcolm! Thanks for the kind and considered words. Our stop-start approach is partially down to our huge enthusiasm for ABBA. It's also borne out of necessity, which is to say that when you're dealing with technical nitty-gritty, you have to mention them before you forget! ABBA have more points of interest than the best majority of pop bands, which is what makes them so enduring!

Agnetha stated in an interview about "The Winner Takes It All" is that it had a little bit of her and Bjorn in it as well as what Anni and Benny were dealing with in their divorce. She didn't mind singing it and putting that out there-- I imagine it must have been to some degree cathartic. So the perspectives were from many of the band members not just the individual writer, mostly Bjorn along with Benny.

I agree many of their songs were and are Carthatic. It was probably why ABBA could come back together. Impossible to write and sing the lyrics of these songs without delving deep into your soul and recognise yourself in those songs. Enjoyed your musical dissection. I agree-- it is a killer bass line. It sounds like synth bass to me but there is an excellent version on YT of a guy playing the line on bass guitar complete with on screen tab. Serafoc I think is his user name. It looks like a Musicman bass which I've never been fond of--being a long time Precision player--but I have to say it really does sound good---almost like an amplified double bass. @@wojciechs.2697 Well the comment on the whole song is at the end, but a song as beautifully crafted as that deserves much much much more than a simple "yeah that was great" at the end of it. To add all of the details we'd thought of along the way at the end would be a nightmare. It would mean referring to time stamps; at 1m 44s I like when this happened, for example. It doesn't work for us and I honestly don't know anybody that does things like that. We "react" the song as musicians, and that means we like to add detail. Very kind of you listen anyway.
