This song came in second in Eurovision 1977 (for the UK). The BBC was afraid it was going to win which would have been bad for the BBC because the winner had to host the event in 1978, which would have lost them money. I find this song kinda catchy with its tricky lyrics and uplifting melody. It reminds me musically of the kind of songs ABBA wrote. (Eg, "Ring, Ring") while at the same time having surprisingly depressing lyrics (eg, ABBA's "SOS", "The Winner Takes it All", etc.)

Tout ce que vous dites est juste. Je trouve ce titre meilleur que "save your kisses for me" de 1976 ou "let me be the one (trop Mc Cartney)" de 1975. Le style est,à mon avis, plus proche d'Elton John que d'ABBA.

@@MrJeepsters I like your comments and I thank you for your agreement. I can see what you mean by Elton John.

@@Penguin-24S99 But isn't somebody on strike somewhere in England? All the ITN News at Tens I've seen had somebody on strike.

Saw this on a best of Eurovision programme a few weeks ago but it couldn't be more apt again with the situation we are in with cost of living and strike action just as it was back when this was first written

One of the first albums I ever had was Taste Me, Don’t waste me by Lynsey De Paul. Became a lifelong fan after that. RIP Lynsey. Taken too soon.

I had a late after-show (Billy's)dinner with Lindsay and Billy Conolly and others at about the time this was released ... Billy was emerging as the latest, greatest funny guy in London at the time. Lindsay hadn't met Billy before and made it very obvious that his attention was very welcome ..... Billy seemed shy. I don't think anything happened between them .. but not for want of her trying! Bless her .. and him!

1977 I was 2 years old........ First I though it was from 1979, but my granny and my mom said I was a brilliant singer and dancer with 2...... I like this song...... Maybe this helped me for handling with foreign languages..... Another song was Frankie Miller, Darling , when I got little older.......so 4 or 5 yo.......

Great song but bizarre it’s only in mono and not stereo considering it was 1977 and everything else had been stereo for some time

Nope ich habe mir die Single damals neu gekauft. Von meinen 20,- DM Taschengeld im Monat für 6,- DM. Das war noch Musik beim ESC. Heute ist das ein politisch orientierter Haufen von Nichtskönnern
